Chewing lice (Phthiraptera) were found on fve (33.3%) of the birds corresponding to three species: 97 specimens of Degeeriella fulva (Giebel, 1874), six specimens of Colpocephalum turbinatum Denny, 1842 and nine belonging to an unidentifed species of the genus Craspedorrhynchus Kéler, 1938. Endoparasites found in three (20%) of the birds included round worms (Nematoda) of the genus Procyrnea Chabaud, 1958, and spiny-headed worms (Acanthocephala) of the genus Centrorhynchus Lühe, 1911.

Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of Tanta, Tanta, Egypt. *Corresponding Author: Email- [email protected] Received: December 10, 2012; Accepted: December 18, 2012 Abstract- The purpose of the present study was to add new 18S and 28S DNA gene sequences data to Sphaerirostris picae (Rudolphi, 1819) Golvan, 1960 and analyze the generated sequences to define the taxonomic placement of genus Sphaerirostris and providing a better resolution inside the Palaeacanthocephala. Two regions: 18S and 28S of nuclear ribosomal DNA of S. picae were amplified using polymerase chain reaction and sequenced following the instructions of GATC German company facility. Mealign module in the DNAStar Lasergene V7 was used to design a forward and reverse primer of 28S DNA gene. 18S and 28S DNA gene sequences of S. picae were aligned with sequences for both genes of Palacanthocephalans retrieved from GenBank. Results were analyzed using distance matrix methods UPGMA. The resulting phylogenetic trees suggest a paraphyletic arrangement of the two Palaeacanthocephala orders; Echi- norhynchida and Polymorphida depending on the placement of the three echinorhynchids, Transvena, Rhadinorhynchus and Gorgorhyn- choides in the polymorphid clade. The present study is the first to generate gene sequences of genus Sphaerirostris and discuss its rela- tionships within Palaeacanthocephala. Further comprehensive studies should be done for other species of genus Sphaerirostris and fami- ly Centrorhynchidae as all based on molecular phylogenetic analysis to solve their taxonomic overlapping.

Lisitsyna, O. I., Greben, O. B. — Th e article presents the results of the investigation of material on the genus Centrorhynchus Lühe, 1911 stored in the collection of the Department of Parasitology, Schmalhauzen Institute of Zoology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Five species: Centrorhynchus aluconis, C. globocaudatus, C. spinosus, C. conspectus and C. polissiensis sp. n. were studied and described. Centrorhynchus polissiensis sp. n., diff ers from all known species by the complex morphological characters, in particular, by the formula of proboscis hooks in combination with the number of large hooks with roots, by the number of hooks in anterior part of the proboscis, and by comparatively smaller eggs. C. polissiensis sp. n. is most similar to C. aluconis, C. conspectus and C. globocaudatus. B. — Th e article presents the results of the investigation of material on the genus Centrorhynchus Lühe, 1911 stored in the collection of the Department of Parasitology, Schmalhauzen Institute of Zoology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Five species: Centrorhynchus aluconis, C. globocaudatus, C. spinosus, C. conspectus and C. polissiensis sp. n. were studied and described. Centrorhynchus polissiensis sp. n., diff ers from all known species by the complex morphological characters, in particular, by the formula of proboscis hooks in combination with the number of large hooks with roots, by the number of hooks in anterior part of the proboscis, and by comparatively smaller eggs. C. polissiensis sp. n. is most similar to C. aluconis, C. conspectus and C. globocaudatus. The acanthocephalan was present in 1 of 6 examined hosts with 18 worms in the intestine of the infected bird. This new species of Acanthocephala is characterized by a spinous, slender body with a reticular lacunar system. The proboscis is cylindrical, somewhat swollen mid body with 10 to 12 longitudinal rows of 16 hooks each. There are 6 to 8 rows of spines, each row with 14 to 15 spines on the body. Proboscis receptacle is double walled; lemnisci slightly unequal, testes in the anterior trunk; four tubular cement glands; Saefftigen’s pouch and cement glands elongated; bursa is well developed and muscular. Eggs oval without polar prolongations and numerous. Specific differences between S. winderi and other species of the genus include hook and spine number and rows shape and size of the worm and surface pattern of the eggs. Key characteristics and species comparisons are included.
