This is the only Camino that begins in Santiago de Compostela and will take you to the Atlantic. This route pre-dates Christianity and Fisterra was believed to be the ‘end of the world’ (finis terrae). The pil- grimage finishes at the cliffs of Cape Finisterre, overlooking the ocean, in the Costa de Morte, or you can continue to Muxia. “Walking to the edge of the world” Fi Santiago to Cape Finisterre Distance 90 km Duration: 6 days / 5 nights 10 Camino de Santiago English Way The Camino Inglés or English Way is the traditional route followed by pilgrims coming from Britain and Ireland. It was also a very important trading route. The first section offers wonderful coastal views while the second part takes you inland to explore the rural landscapes of Galicia. Your pilgrimage finishes in Santiago de Compostela with its amazing Cathedral. It begins in the Basque country from the chic seaside city of San Sebastian. The way also takes you to pretty fishing villages, along coastal areas of outstanding beauty and fantastic cities such as Bilbao - home of some of the best tapas in Spain and the world-famous Guggenheim museum; Santander and Oviedo. The first section of the Camino Primitivo, from Oviedo to Lugo is the most challenging of all the Camino routes but will also reward you with outstanding mountain views. Crossing the Cantabrian Mountains will give you an opportunity to push yourself. The second section is easier and starts in lovely Lugo, famous for its UNESCO Roman wall. This way was traditionally followed by North African Christians on their way to Santiago de Compostela. It starts in Lisbon - the dazzling capital and home to many UNESCO sites; and takes walkers to Santarém the Moorish Bastion of Portugal; Coimbra one of the oldest Universities; colourful Porto - a UNESCO city and home of Port wine and finishes in Santiago de Compostela.
