Strategically situated, and A Coruña are the starting points of the two alternatives of the English way. The first maritime itinerary to be known was written between 1154 and 1159 by an Icelandic monk named Nicolás Bergsson. During the 14th century and the first third of the 15th, the British used the ship to come to , it was the British who used their ships to reach Santiago; their presence is evidenced by the coins and pieces of pottery found during excavations in the cathedral. The offerings to the Apostle are yet another sign of the existence of maritime pilgrimages.

Itinerary Day 1 - Arrival in Ferrol

Begin early morning at the Port of Ferrol Pass through and Cabañas, stopping in Visit Fragas, an Atlantic coastal Lunch in a Eume canteen Head to Betanzos, arrive on foot after 2,2 km of walking Overnight in Betanzos The route begins at Curuxeiras dock at the Port of Ferrol. We will pass through Fene and Cabañas, stopping at the medieval village of Pontedeume, where you will be able to see buildings of the XIV century. After that, you will be able to explore the best preserved Atlantic coastal temperate rainforest in the whole of Europe, and the Monastery of Caaveiro. Then we will enjoy a typical lunch in one of the Eume canteens.

We will take our transport towards the medieval village of Betanzos, but we will stop at the church of San Martiño de Tiobre (XII century). It will be the moment for walking, a route of 2,2 kilometers going downhill and arriving to Betanzos.

In Betanzos, we will be able to explore he amazing medieval buildings and enjoy the fantastic food of , including its famous ‘’tortilla’’.

At the end of the day, we will make our way to one of the typical Galician country houses to rest until the following day.

Day 3 - Betanzos / (69.6 km) Breakfast in the country house Visit the church of San Pedro de Vizoño Walk 8 km and see the village of Bruma, where transport will pick you up Stop in for lunch Arrive in Santiago Overnight in Hostal de los Reyes Católicos

The English Way of St. James(© www.palacetours.com) 1/4 We will start the day with a breakfast in the country house and we will take the transport to resume the way of Saint James, passing through , and stopping at the church of San Pedro de Vizoño. From that point, we will start another part of the Way, walking for around 8 kilometers and visiting natural and historical sites such as the small village of Bruma, junction point of the two English ways stopping where the transport will be for picking you up. We will take the transport there and we will stop at Ordes for lunch. After that we will resume the way to Santiago de Compostela, stopping at the Pablo Iglesias Park surrounding the medieval aqueduct and walking from here, entering the town to the San Martín Pinario Square, and finally the end of the way, ‘’Plaza do Obradoiro’’ with the cathedral in front of us, and our accommodation on the right side, the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos.

Day 4 - Santiago

Free time for visiting and shopping in Santiago until the time of departure or enjoy the optional Pilgrim Spa Circuit.

Ferrol Ferrol is a city in the province of A Coruña in Galicia. Located on the Atlantic coast in north-western , the city has been a major naval shipbuilding center for most of its history, being the capital of the Spanish Navy's Maritime Department of the North since the time of the early Bourbons. Before that, in the 17th century, Ferrol was the most important arsenal in Europe. Today, the city is also known as the home of the shipbuilding yards of Navantia.

Santiago de Compostela Santiago de Compostela is the capital city of Galicia, Spain, and is the jewel in its historic and medieval crown. The city has world heritage status, and the 9th century Cathedral itself is the final destination for thousands of Christian pilgrims who traverse the "Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago)" pilgrimage across Galicia in order to reach this impressive city and visit the tomb of the saint himself. Santiago's old town is also full of dazzling examples of Gothic, Neo-classical, Romanesque and Baroque design and nearly all are on a grand or monumental scale.
