Page 1 of 29 Last Updated September 2021. Most recent feedback first. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Robin, I apologize not getting back to you sooner. I received the CD a week ago and it's a great regording for 1973. Definitvely one of the best from Bowie's Ziggy Stardust era. It's indeed like being at the Hammersmith Odeon that night. Thank you very much for sharing. Warm regards Alain cimaz Pari ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Robin, The package has arrived in tip top condition of course. I listened on headphones last night and thoroughly enjoyed taking my seat and hearing Ziggy and The Spiders From Mars play Hammersmith, which is another venue I remember from my early days in London in the sixties. I have a relatively decent David Bowie collection, but this particular and inexpensive item, will be an addition to the most treasured pieces indeed. “Holding the 2 cd set in my hands and examining the care that had been put into the personalised package, while pondering the inherent provenance attached to it, reminded me that I was holding a genuine rock and roll artifact.” Thank you Robin many thanks and respect, Raymond Austin Victoria, Canada ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robin, I received the package this morning already, which was amazingly fast and I am absolutely blown away! Most of the time I had goose pimples and quite honestly, I had tears in my eyes during Ronno’s solo in Moonage Daydream, which had always been the highlight for me. It’s all so perfectly raw and beautiful. I was at the show in Bristol a couple of weeks earlier and I remember it as if it was yesterday. Something I had sorely missed on all other versions was the complete build up interludes with the Clockwork Orange soundtrack. Anthony Clydesdale Switzerland ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Robin my CD arrived today, fantastic I've played it twice already and love the way you've presented it, it makes a change from the motion picture version with the crowd noise, really pleased I've purchased it as I've been meaning to for ages and i also enjoyed the YouTube clips they were very good.....keep on rockin' Robin regards Chris Meehan Litchfield, Staffs ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Robin I’ve just received the CDs and listen to them… What a performance, I thought I as in here!! I really love this raw 70’s sound! Thank you for sharing this piece of music history! Arnaud. Serris, France ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Robin Just listening to it. It’s extremely good. The full experience from when the Apollo was the Odeon. Transports you. Without the post production that can make a lot of official live releases, less ... live. Raw, as it should be !! Sean Sudbury, UK ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Robin Received the CD yesterday, very fast service indeed. It’s a great piece of untouched musical history, thank you for sharing with us that were too young to be there. Lovely packaging and the ticket is a great touch. Thanks again, Jason Page 1 of 29 Bournemouth ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Robin, The cd arrived today, just finished listening to it, wow! Best version I have ever heard of the concert, just superb, that should be the official version! Thanks again for everything stay safe at this strange time Best wishes, David Page Harlow. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Received you Ziggy Stardust Double-CD today. Very well done - to ma as a regular and long-term fan a highly interesting, authentic document of the last concert - good sound quality, all perfect. Regards, Dieter Bochum, Germany ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was up in Cumbria, but it was great to come back and find the Hammersmith Odeon CD waiting for me..! :) It's great to hear it in its 'raw' form and, although I have other recordings of this historic gig, there's something extra special about hearing it direct from the desk... :) It's great to have it signed by you and I like the idea of including a ticket for the gig as well - it adds to the whole package and is a nice touch :) Thank you for making it available, I'll be sure to put the word out to Bowie fans! All the best and thanks again! Dave (d-dog) Arthur Hosham ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Over the years I was fortunate enough to have seen David many times, and have acquired a daft amount of concert bootlegs... your CD 'The Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars' is the cherry on the icing of the cake. Mostly terrific sound quality, correctly sequenced as it was played that night over 46 years ago; captured at the mixing desk by the sound engineer of the Ziggy Stardust tour. This is definitively the closest anyone's gonna get to having been there at this most iconic of shows. I can't believe it took me so long to hear about this recording. Thank-you very much Robin, I could not be happier... Kind regards David G. Hill Somerset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Robin Massive thank you for providing this recording. It is absolutely magnificent. I have searched for this recording for a while and was not disappointed. The sound quality is superb and you really feel the raw energy of this last Ziggy show. Brilliant to have the full concert with the intros and announcements, Garson’s medley and the special performances with Jeff Beck. I’ve loved Bowie for years and have various versions of the official releases of this show; they pale in comparison to your recording. It is fabulous that you are allowing people to hear the farewell show in all its glory – a real treasure. Thank you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Absolutely delighted with the CD, fantastic sound quality, and the complete show. Would recommend this CD to any music fan, not just Bowie. John Jones Rhos on sea ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Robin: Many thanks for the Ziggy CD - it is amazing!I only got to know about it because of very enthusiastic comments by Craig Wilkinson on the Bowie Collector's page on Facebook. After reading Craig's comments, I ordered a copy, but I didn't imagine it could sound so different from the Tony Visconti-enhanced mix....boy was I wrong! It is actually much more "real" and in-your-face. You wrote on the back of the reproduced ticket "take your seat and enjoy the show", and that's precisely what it feels like: as if you're actually there. In the front row!I always disliked the official version and never understood why - after all, it was a historic gig in the key tour of my favourite artist when the band were at the peak of the powers....and yet it felt like a massive anti-climax to me. Page 2 of 29 Now that I've heard your CD, I understand why I was disappointed and I'm pleased that I now have a true record of what that gig sounded like. I'm sure you're been asked this many times before, but do you have any other recordings from that tour available. Anyway - thank you and very best wishes, Allan. Sir Robin- Rec’d ZIGGY and as expected it blew the top of my head off Super fast service- thanks The 2CD is a fine product- a really classy presentation; it has taken me nearly a half-century to find the Real Deal, as the closest thing was the broadcast of a truncated version carried late-nite on “In Concert” from a local TV station in 1974 (this broadcast was later released on vinyl as HIS MASTER’S VOICE, apparently recorded from a TV speaker and sounding like it) but at least l was able to see a snippet of the Jeff Beck performance on that 18” screen Fast forward to 2019- Mr. Mayhew has done a signal service to ZIGGY/SPIDERS fanatics of every stripe, making available (with the best possible sound, warts and all) literally the closest thing (the complete set with the superb Beck performance fully intact, the Garson piano medley, saxophones where saxophones were supposed to be in the sound mix, Ronno’s cranium peeling solos etc) to attending on 07/03/1973, you will hear what the 3,400-5,000 (depending on who you believe) lucky punters heard during that landmark concert Ronson is front and center as God and Nature intended, Bowie’s fully committed vocals sans the studio “sweetening”, the two-headed rhythm monster known as Bolder/Woodmansey

WATCHMOJO – The life and career of David Bowie (1947-2016) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lan_wotkon0 [Fashion] Welcome to watchmojo.com and today we're taking a look at the life and career of David Bowie. [Queen Bitch] David Robert Jones was born on January 8 1947 in Brixton London England. Though he showed musical interest at a young age it was only in the early 60s that he really pursued the art. He started by joining several blues bands but branched off on his own when they had little success. Renaming himself David Bowie he released his self-titled debut in 1967. [Who's that hiding in the apple tree clinging to a branch] Its lack of success led Bowie to participate in a promotional film called Love you till Tuesday which showcased several of his songs. A particular interest was Space Oddity : that track became a hit after it was released at the same time as the first moon landing. [Ground control to Major Tom] His sophomore effort of the same name however was another commercial disappointment. [The man who sold the world] To promote his third album The man who sold the world, Bowie was put in a dress to capitalize on his androgynous look. [Life on mars] [Ziggy Stardust] In 1971 a pop influenced record called Hunky-Dory came out and was followed by the creation of his flamboyant Ziggy Stardust persona and stage show with backing band The Spiders from Mars. Then came his breakthrough record The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars which climbed the charts thanks to his performance of the single Star Man on Top of the Pops.

Now, Morley has published his personal account of the life, musical influence and cultural impact of his teenage hero, exploring Bowie's constant reinvention of himself and his music over a period of five extraordinarily innovative decades. We provide transcripts to make all of our stories keyword searchable and accessible to the hearing impaired, but we highly recommend listening to the audio to hear the full breadth of the story. This transcript was computer-generated and subsequently corrected through The Moth's StoryScribe (visit storyscribe.themoth.org for more information). I was born a few years after World War II, and brought up in a nice house in a typical suburb of Southeast London, Bromley, in Kent. My parents both worked. My father was a long-distance lorry driver and my mother was a shop assistant. They got married shortly after the war simply because that's what everybody did. The government gave generous allowances, and my brother and I both had free milk at school; a third of a pint in a glass bottle with a silver top. I don't think my parents expected too much of me after school. I think they thought I would kind of grow up, you know, have a bit of fun, get married, and have some children. The swinging sixties kind of changed all of that. I mean, we had the best music in the world. It was a great time to be a teenager: fabulous fashion, and the pill. Twiggy was my fashion model of the day, and everybody wanted to look like her. She was a tall, skinny girl with a flat chest and flat hair, and I wanted to look like her, too, but no chance.
