Science Institute for Educators About this fish Lake Whitefish Adult Size Range: 27.1 - 100 cm (10.7 - 39.4 in) Habitat: Lake whitefish occur in Lake Superior and in deep, cool-water lakes in northern Minnesota. They are present in many lakes in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and in lakes of the Upper Mississippi River drainage. They require cool, well-oxygenated water in the summertime. These fish tend to stay near the lake bottom.
Fun Fish Fact: The Anishinabe (Ojibwe) word for Great Lakes Whitefish is Adikameg.

Science Institute for Educators About this fish Siscowet Lake Trout Adult Size Range: 42 - 150 cm (16.5 - 59.1 in) Habitat: The siscowet is a deep-water form of lake trout usually found at depths greater than 300 feet and only found in Lake Superior. Siscowet are the most abundant predator in Lake Superior.
Fun Fish Fact: “Unlike their svelte kin (namely lean lake trout), obesity is a natural state for siscowets. Siscowets’ tendency to develop more body fat (40-70 percent) than lean lake trout (about 10 percent) is natural and not a source of concern.” Siscowet Trout, A Plague of Riches, by Sharon Moen
