CHANGE YOUR THINKING LANKEYS CREEK CHRISTMAS PARTY

It will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking.. Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and colour of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every colour and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene. One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days, weeks and months passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to On Friday 12 December Santa came to Lankeys Creek, this year make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she arriving in a boat. The hall came alive with over 70 people left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one enjoying the evening. Children sang a Christmas carol to Santa elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained and this was followed by a sing-along led by Bob Ledo and Greg to slowly turn an look out the window beside the bed. Thompson. It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.' Teams showing their respect before the game at Tallangatta.

U16 REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET REPORT

At Tallangatta last Sunday 's U16 representative team and Tallangatta U16 team played the first of their two annual games, designed to foster inter-association bonds and give young cricketers the opportunity to play on turf against their peers.

The turf ground prepared by club curator Browny featured a stencilled Phillip Hughes memorial tribute. The two teams' coaches, Jon Burgun and Sam Stephens, led the players in a minute's silence. In the spirit of the game the players agreed to retire on 63 rather than 50 in this 40 over per side game.

Tumbarumba won the toss and elected to bowl, taking the field as a keen enthusiastic unit. Tallangatta's opening bats, Captain Curtis Stephens and Patrick McCormack, established a 68 run partnership in 13 overs before the first dismissal. Curtis retired on 63 not out in the 19th over after his stint in the middle with Brent De Vries added 25 runs. Batting at number 4, Daniel Larsons added 8 before dismissal, with Brenton Maddock making a selfless 21 in a 44 run partnership. 3-157 at the 34th over. Matt Broughton hit 6 before dismissal. Brent was dismissed on 42 with the last partnership between Lachlan Paton and Jaydn Chalmers seeing a quick fire 38 runs to finish 5-204. The pick of the bowlers for Tumbarumba was Joel Williams 3-36 and Matty Johns 2-37. Jake Mills took a superb catch at mid wicket with some strong outfield throws from a number of players. Tumbarumba Tigers kept their energy and enthusiasm up throughout the innings.

Tigers suffered an early dismissal in the second over, when Jadyn Chalmers rifled a ball for a direct hit and run out. After a 24 run partnership Joel Williams was dismissed on 20, bringing Stephen Hoffman to the crease to add 3 runs. Matty Johns came in next and built a 37 run partnership before Jordan's dismissal on 20. Tigers 4-69 after 15 overs. Curtis holding his Phillip Hughes' signed gloves. Alex went out on 24 to leave Tom Ross and Jake Mills to see out the overs with a 14 run partnership. Tumbarumba were 11-149, with the 12th man batting in the spirit of the game. Tallangatta's wicket takers were spread across the team with Brenton Maddock 3-21, Lachlan Paton 2-18, Daniel Larson 1-9, Curtis Stephens 1-9, Thomas Gibbs 1-11, Ryan Barker 1-11 and Jadyn Chalmers 1-28.
