As the home and away cricket season draws to a close Jingellic’s junior team are again well placed on the ladder in second position. The seniors have thoroughly enjoyed their season also. Despite not having tasted victory this year, the composite team of locals, mates and occasional ring-ins have enjoyed their Saturday afternoons. There’s been opportunity for less experienced players to develop an appreciation for spending the typically warm afternoons fielding for hours or, as batsmen, having a sudden rush of blood when they briefly think their name is David Warner. There’s been a diverse range of backgrounds and ages that has seen the players identify their strengths, but also build on their weaknesses. The club’s bowling machine has been regularly used to develop key batting skills.

There has been some anguish with events and organizing as well but when something is worth working for - you learn to ride the bumps, juggle the personalities and give your best.

I’m very lucky to have had great team mates along the way and it’s amazing that the same faces are always there all working hard and contributing so I have to mention some of these as they are wonderful mates to have as well – Norm & Sharon Nankervis, Adam & Robert Wheeler, Tammy Edwards, Bob Herbert, Keith Whitsed and Jim Scammell all have a share in this award along with the past and present members of the Bush Festival Board, the Challenge Committee and the Campdraft Committee – thank you all for sharing in the hard work and effort.

Apparently behind every good woman there is a good man and in my case this is very true; I have never been involved in anything that my husband Ted has not been there to support me with; he has always been on hand for working bees and events, regardless of how big his own work load had grown to and to discuss tricky situations (whether he liked it or not) late into the night following drawn out meetings that had already kept him awake waiting for me to come home. Thank you Ted, I would not have achieved this award without you being there for me every step of the way.

THYROID CANCER On Wednesday, Dr. Oz had a show on the fastest growing cancer in women, thyroid cancer. It was a very interesting program and he mentioned that the increase could possibly be related to the use of dental x-rays and mammograms. He demonstrated that on the apron the dentist puts on you for your dental x-rays there is a little flap that can be lifted up and wrapped around your neck. Many dentists don't bother to use it.

Also, there is something called a "thyroid guard" for use during mammograms. By coincidence, I had my yearly mammogram yesterday. I felt a little silly, but I asked about the guard and sure enough, the technician had one in a drawer. I asked why it wasn't routinely used. Answer: "I don't know. You have to ask for it." Well, if I hadn't seen the show, how would I have known to ask? We need to pass this on to our daughters, nieces, mothers and all our female friends and husbands tell your wives !! I just did, now you send it on to your list. Someone was nice enough to forward this to me. I hope you pass this on to your friends and family.
