Welcome to St. Alphonsus Liguori Parish 2 A Chat with Carol... I would like to introduce you to our Council Members who are currently serving the parish. Council members take on this responsibility for a two-year term which can be renewed for another two years before they need to take leave.

The main role of a Parish Council is to exercise responsibility for the pastoral life of the parish under the leadership of the pastor. They are to prayerfully engage the people to reflect on the parish mission and ministries, to plan, and to evaluate in light of the Gospel and church teaching. They have four basic responsibilities:

1. To research the needs, the ideas and the hopes of the faith community; 2. To encourage and support existing ministries; 3. To evaluate the quality of life of the parish faith community; 4. To plan for the parish’s future by recommending policies, procedures, and programs that will implement its value and fulfill the Church’s mission.

We meet every second Tuesday of the month beginning our meeting with a prayerful reflection on the scriptures of the upcoming Sunday followed by the Pastor’s parish report and open discussion. We share and discuss parish issues and upcoming events while our main focus these days is on the Archdiocesan “Renew My Church” process which our parish will be involved in 2022.

On November 17th our Council Members will receive a special blessing at the 11 a.m Mass. Please remember to keep us in your prayers we keep your best interest in mind.

Peace, Carol Holden

Wendy Mattison

Vicariate 1 Recipient of the 2019 Bishop Quarter Award

Wendy was nominated by Most Rev. Alberto Rojas. She was presented the award by Cardinal Blase J. Cupich at the Conferral of 2019 Ecclesial Honors Ceremony on Sunday, October 13th.

Bishop William Quarter was the first bishop of Chicago. This award is given in the spirit of that same trust in the Lord’s providence for the foundation of the Church in every age. This award is bestowed upon an individual who demonstrates consistent service to the ministries of the vicariates or the Archdiocese of Chicago. The individual is a practicing Catholic layperson who manifests an understanding of the teachings of the Church and has been graced with a life formed in the Catholic spiritual tradition. The individual has used his/her talents to deepen the life of the Church across the vicariate or the archdiocese. There is one award per vicariate. The particular Episcopal vicar in consultation with his deans has advanced the nomination for the award.

One more way to be an Angel to our school!

Did you know that St. Alphonsus School has a long-standing tradition of accepting international exchange students at our school to study. It is a wonderful way to learn from and with other cultures. We recently accepted an 8th grader from China to our school.

We are looking for host families for our prospective exchange students who will study in our school’s international exchange programs.

The exchange students are mainly coming from China, age ranged from 9 to 14 years old (3rd to 8th grade). They will study in our school from a period of two weeks to 6 months. The exchange students will get an opportunity to explore the American culture during their stay in our international program. We encourage our families to join us to support the international exchange student program as the American host family. The exchange students will live with the host family as a part of their own family. The host family is expected to act as guardians during their stay and take care of basic necessities including transportation and food. The participating host family can also have the opportunity to learn Chinese culture from the exchange students.

A stipend will be paid to appreciate the commitment of host families. We truly appreciate your consideration of this request.
