Today’s gospel is a very interesting one. The apostles and Weekly Jesus are crossing the sea by boat. The Lord is tired and is Readings…

asleep at the front of the boat. A violent storm comes up, Sunday: and the apostles become frightened because they are Jb 38:1, 8-11/ Ps 107:23-24, 25-26, 28-29, 30-31 [1b]/2 Cor 5:14-17 still far from shore. They wake Jesus up, and He calms Mk 4:35-41

the storm and chastises them for their lack of faith. Monday: Gn 12:1-9/Ps 33:12-13, 18-19, 20 and Why were they so afraid? Let a look a little deeper into 22 [12]/Mt 7:1-5

the story. For the ancient Jews, the sea was where the Tuesday: devil resided. God was in the heavens, humans were on the earth, and the Gn 13:2, 5-18/Ps 15:2-3a, 3bc-4ab, 5 [1b]/Mt 7:6, 12-14 devil was in the sea. And so, when the sea becomes violent, it was not just Wednesday: that they were afraid of the water; the apostles felt the devil was causing them Gn 15:1-12, 17-18/Ps 105:1-2, 3-4, 6-7, 8-9 [8a]/Mt 7:15-20 to die. When Jesus rebukes the sea, he is showing his power, not just over the sea, but of the devil himself. This particular miracle, for the apostles, is Thursday: Is 49:1-6/Ps 139:1-3, 13-14, 14-15 as mighty as the curing of the sick. With this miracle, Jesus shows he is [14a]/Acts 13:22-26/Lk 1:57-66, 80

master not just of the earth but also of the devil himself; this is quite Friday: Gn 17:1, 9-10, 15-22/Ps 128:1-2, 3, significant in the apostle’s lives. This story also shows that just because 4-5 [4]/Mt 8:1-4

Jesus is with us in our lives, there will still be storms. All of us will have to Saturday: encounter physical storms in the sky and others storms like sickness, Gn 18:1-15/Lk 1:46-47, 48-49, 50 and 53, 54-55 [cf. 54b]/Mt 8:5-17 confusion, and misunderstandings. It is essential to know that Jesus is with Sunday: us during these times just like he was with the apostles, and he asks us not to Wis 1:13-15; 2:23-24/Ps 30:2, 4, 5-6, be afraid. If we place our total trust in the Lord, he will not fail us. We can 11, 12, 13 [2a]/2 Cor 8:7, 9, 13-15/ Mk 5:21-43 or 5:21-24, 35b-43 be confident in the fact he will be with us always.

LITURGY NOTES...

Blessing is the projection of good into the life of another. It isn't just words. It's the actual putting forth of your will for the good of another person. It always involves God, because when you will the good of another person, you realize only God is capable of bringing that. So we naturally say, "God bless you." You can bless someone when you will their good under the invocation of God. You invoke God on their behalf to support the good that you will for them. This is the nature of blessing. It is what we are to receive from God and then give to another.

There are two proven formats for giving a blessing to other people. You can give it directly to them, using the word "May," followed by whatever good things you want them to receive. Or you can invoke the Lord's help, using the words "May the Lord," followed by whatever good things you want Him to give them. Here are examples . . .

Examples Of Direct Blessings "May your days be filled with joy." "May your pain subside and your illness go away." "May you get the you are trying to obtain." "May your grief pass by like a cloud, and may peace return to your heart."

Examples Of Blessings Which Invoke The Lord's Help "May the Lord richly bless you as you continue your work in His behalf." "May the Lord give you a safe trip home, with no problems of any kind." "May the Lord wipe away your tears and give you peace of mind." "May the Lord bring love and harmony into your home."

So don't be shy. Just go ahead and start blessing people, as the Spirit leads. When the Holy Spirit prompts you to give a blessing, do it! Be sure to give Christ the glory by identifying yourself as a Christian. The Lord *loves* to use imperfect vessels for His work, so don't feel unworthy if you are less than a "perfect" Christian. You are *always* authorized to dispense love to other people: ALWAYS!

Dynamic Catholic, Alive!- – True Kingship

Jesus is a walking contradiction in many ways. He is the lion and the lamb, the victor and the victim, God’s son and the carpenter’s son. The nature of His kingship is also perplexing. He is the gentle and meek one who takes all of our sins, problems, afflictions, and weaknesses upon Himself as the suffering servant ( 53). Yet he is also the almighty God who has authority over the wind and the sea (Mark 4:39). Jesus shows us that we are never as powerful as He is but that we can share in His power by surrendering to His Do Not Be Afraid grace. Jesus gently invites us to follow Him and to cast all of our Just Have Faith cares and burdens upon Him so that He may help us to bear them successfully. archstl.org/dynamic Mark 5:36
