Hello all! Weekly Readings…

These past couple of Sundays have been very eventful. Sunday: Two weeks ago, Fr. Tom gave a very rousing talk at our 1 Kgs 19:4-8/Ps 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 [9a]/Eph 4:30—5:2/Jn 6:41-51 liturgy. The congregation was certainly energized by his preaching. I am glad he was able to take time to be Monday: Dt 10:12-22/Ps 147:12-13, 14-15, with us. And then last Sunday, we had the feast of St. 19-20 [12a]/Mt 17:22-27

Alphonsus, and Fr. John Fahey-Guerra gave us a beautiful Tuesday: homily on Jesus looking at us and what that means. We 2 Cor 9:6-10/Ps 112:1-2, 5-6, 7-8, 9 [5]/Jn 12:24-26 were then able to head over to the gym, have a bit of fellowship with one Wednesday: another, and offer Fr. Tom congratulations on his 50 years as a Redemptorist. Dt 34:1-12/Ps 66:1-3a, 5 and 8, 16-17 It was a great celebration, and I know everyone enjoyed themselves. I want [cf. 20a and 10b]/Mt 18:15-20

to thank so many people who were involved with both Sundays. Your help Thursday: and enthusiasm showed forth to all. Jos 3:7-10a, 11, 13-17/Ps 114:1-2, 3-4, 5-6/Mt 18:21—19:1

Friday: As you know, one of the concerns for me right now is the leaning wall on Jos 24:1-13/Ps 136:1-3, 16-18, 21-22 Cook Ave. It looks like the wall is ready to fall at any time, so please do not and 24/Mt 19:3-12

park on Cook near the wall for safety concerns. We have looked at some Saturday: pictures taken from the early 1900s, and the wall was standing then. That Jos 24:14-29/Ps 16:1-2a, and 5, 7-8, 11 [cf. 5a]/Mt 19:13-15 was more than 100 years ago. I realize the wall has sentimental value for Sunday: people, and we want to do what’s best for the both now and in the Vigil: 1 Chr 15:3-4, 15-16; 16:1-2 future. If we want the wall to remain as is, we would have to tear down the Ps 132:6-7, 9-10, 13-14 [8]/1 Cor 15:54b-57/Lk 11:27-28 wall and then rebuild, which would likely cost over $300,000. I will not say Day: Rv 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab no to this proposal if the church wants to keep what we have. However, we Ps 45:10, 11, 12, 16 [10bc] may have people who are willing to donate big money or at least help in the 1 Cor 15:20-27/Lk 1:39-56 effort to collect it. There is also the option of constructing a smaller wall. The cost on that would be considerably cheaper. I know money may be tight AND SPECIAL right now, but I want to do what is best for the parish. I am only here for a OBSERVANCES short time and want to hear from you about your thoughts. We may need to set up a committee to talk about it together. Sunday: 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Monday: Last year the Archdiocesan Knights and Ladies of wanted to St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, have a celebration at the ROCK. Because of COVID, it was canceled. This and Martyr

September, we are going to try again. On Sunday, September 12th, at the Tuesday: St. Lawrence, and Martyr 10:00 am liturgy; we will celebrate along with so many others the life of St. Peter Claver. I am happy we can offer the space for this special occasion. St. Wednesday: St. Clare, Virgin Peter’s feast day is September 9th, and so we always try and celebrate his Thursday: feast on the weekend before or after this date. I hope you are all able to St. , Religious

attend this mass. It is nice that we will have other people in the church that Friday: day celebrating with us. This past week we had the organ tuned. A video Sts. Pontian, , and Hippolytus, Priest, Martyrs was made to show how beautiful it sounds. I am looking for a competent Saturday: organ player to begin playing for the Novena on Tuesdays at 11:30. It St. Maximillian Kolbe, greatly enhances the liturgy when we have the beautiful sound of the organ. Priest and Martyr

We do not want anyone on the organ, but please let me know if you can play Sunday: every Tuesday. Have a great week. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

LITURGY NOTES...

In last week's gospel, Jesus proclaimed, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst." Today we hear Jesus that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." (John 6:51) Considering how the Gospel of John

"This is my body which will be given for you" (Luke 22:19).

When we as Catholics meditate on the bread of life discourse, we are inevitably led to

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – The Bread of Life Continued

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” This statement caused some of Jesus’ disciples to turn and run away; while for others, this statement galvanized their belief in God that they ultimately gave their life for Jesus. Where do you stand? Do you truly believe that the bread and wine we receive at Mass is the actual flesh and blood of Christ? If so, why? How would you explain the Eucharist to a curious friend? If not, why not? Many people believe in God. But there is a big difference between knowing facts about God and actually having a relationship with Him. You have to spend time with someone to develop a relationship, not read a book about them. God wants a “Hold Your Eyes On personal relationship with each one of us. Take time every day, in God and Leave The silence, talking and listening to the Lord. Invite Him into your heart Doing To Him” and enjoy the fruits of your new friendship. archstl.org/dynamic
