SALUS POPULI ROMANI MARCH 26 – JUNE 11, 2021 ZOOM CLASSES: 11 WEEKS, FRIDAY AFTERNOONS 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

THIS CLASS IS OPEN TO INTERMEDIATE AND BASIC LEVEL STUDENTS WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY STUDIED WITH THE PROSOPON SCHOOL OF ICONOLOGY. YOU SHOULD HAVE A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROSOPON TECHNIQUES OF ROSKRISH, HIGHLIGHTS AND FLOATS, AND YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO MIX YOUR OWN PAINT. PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS.

The Salus Populi Romani is the Byzantine icon often venerated by Pope Francis at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome. It is considered to be one of the icons painted by St. Luke himself, and it is honored as a miraculous image. The full-size icon will be painted on a board at least 13”x17”. Less experienced students may paint a smaller version similar to the image on the right, on a smaller board.

Cost of the class is $275.00. Students should register by email to [email protected]. Upon receipt of your email, I will send you a PayPal invoice for the full amount, which can be paid by any credit card of your choice. Your registration will be complete upon your payment of the invoice.

All subsequent information for the class will be sent electronically. Classes will be recorded, and the recordings will be sent to all students after each class. Classes will consist of (1) written text instructions and step photos will be emailed the day before each class, (2) live explanations and painting demonstrations on Zoom, with limited opportunities for questions, and (3) recordings of each class as follow-up. For those students desiring individual critique of their work, a separate Tuesday afternoon live Zoom critique class is offered. See separate listing for details of this class. Individual private classes are also available as needed on a limited basis.
