When not reading, I enjoy hiking, watching Frasier, and trying to catch up on much needed sleep. Onur Onol 2 ABSTRACT From the Tsarist confiscation of the properties of the Armenian Church in 1903 to the outbreak of the First World War, relations between Russia and its Armenian subjects gradually changed. This thesis scrutinizes how and why this gradual change took place between 1903 and 1914 by looking at the interaction between the Russian administration and the three political pillars of the Russian Armenians (the Dashnaktsutiun, the Armenian Church, and the Armenian bourgeoisie) as well as Russian foreign policy considerations. The confiscation decree of 1903 triggered an immense reaction by the Russian Armenians against the Russian government, which became part of the revolutionary unrest in the South Caucasus in 1905. World War II changed the course of Dro’s (Drastamat Kanayan) regardless of his will or intention, linking him to the Russian-German struggle as collaborator with Nazism. During WWI he had collaborated with the tsarist regime as commander of the 2nd Volunteer Regiment on the Caucasus front. That does not mean that Dro, Andranik, Vartan, Keri, Hamazasp or others admired the tsarist dictatorship. Dr. Antranig Chalabian (1922 - 2011) Teacher, medical illustrator and public relations director, the late-Dr. Chalabian was born in Kessab and lived for many years in Beirut and in Detroit. In addition to contributing to publications in Lebanon, Dr. Chalabian wrote several books, including General Andranik and the Armenian Revolutionary Movement, Revolutionary Figures, and Armenia After the Coming of Islam.

Kuznetsova”, Saint-Petersburg, Russian Federation Abstract The article analyzes the reasons and methods of forming Armenian vigilante units as part of the Russian Army in the World War I in the Caucasian Front. It is emphasized that according to the plan of the Caucasus Corps Command, Armenian vigilante units should have been not just auxiliary units of the Russian Army that were familiar with the area, providing all possible assistance to the troops, but they also had to resolve issues independently where it would have been impossible to use the Caucasus Corps Units for political or other reasons. Among other things, they were charged with maintaining order in the territory of Turkish Armenia after the victory and the transfer of Russian military units to other fronts.
