Port Fishing Village (Kollam Corporation) A Brief Profile of the Port Fishing Village Port fisheries village is located at ward 45 of Kollam Corporation. The village has a total of 1100 houses and 1105 households are living there. Among them, 8 households are landless or presently living as a joint family. Regarding the housing situation in the village, it is noted that 16.91 percent houses are pucca, 81.82 percent are semi-pucca and 1.27 percent houses are kachha houses. About 96.36 percent of the existing houses in the village have sanitary toilets. Safe drinking water is available to 89.82 percent of the existing houses. Cent percent of the houses in the village are electrified. It is noted that 518 persons from the fisher folk community are insured with the Fisheries Board (Matsya Board). And 21 persons are covered under the old age pension scheme and 13 persons are covered under widow pension scheme during 2007-08 in this village. Regarding the community specific facilities, this village has one FWC. The village has two LP Schools. Six anganawadis are functioning in this village and three of them are functioning in rented buildings. This village has a network of 2 roads of 3.50 Km length, 0.50 Km drainage and two culverts. The village has 85 street lights and all of them are functional. About the fisheries specific infrastructure and facilities, it is noted that 95 country fishing boats and 70 mechanized boats are available in this fisheries village. And a total of 55 kerosene permits are issued to the fisher folk in this. The village has one fish landing centre. The village has three ice plants and one market. The village has an unprotected coastal line of 1.50. Consumption of liquor and narcotic drugs are acute in this village. The results of situation analysis and needs and financial requirements are presented in Tables 54 and 55.
