Each year the Texas State Council of the New District Deputy Augustin Carrillo Knights of Columbus sponsors the Texas Grand Knight Joseph Earthman Knights Football Sweepstakes. Council 2917 was recently recognized in the Catholic Herald. As the St. Rose of Lima Parish Knights of Columbus Council was diminishing, many of their membership made a mass transfer to Council 2917. FOURTH DEGREE NEWS

A celebration of another successful fraternal year of full regalia turnouts was held on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Cathedral Center with an awards banquet. Auxiliary Bishop George Sheltz was the keynote speaker. A sizeable crowd of Sir Knights dressed in their tuxedos, social baldrics, and lovely ladies dressed in their Sunday best, enjoyed another delicious meal catered by Mikeska Catering from Columbus followed by an afternoon of socializing.

Sunday, July 7, 2013, marked another milestone for a long time Council 2917 and Msgr. George A. Wilhelm Assembly Brother Sir Knight. Sir Knight Reverend Monsignor Auxiliary Bishop George Sheltz addresses Sir Knights at James L. Golasinski was greeted by 25 Sir Knights in full Awards Banquet in the Cathedral Centre, Sunday June 30, 2013. regalia attending the celebration of his last Mass as pastor of Annunciation . Msgr. Golasinski’s 55 years of service to the people of God started with his ordination on May 24, 1958 at St Mary’s Cathedral in Galveston by Bishop Wendelin J. Nold. His priestly service included many assignments including missionary work in Korea with the last 26 years as pastor of Annunciation Catholic Church. Having joined the Knights of Columbus Bishop Odin Council 2917 sixty-one years ago on May 1, 1952, and exemplified into the Fourth Degree September 1, 1993, Msgr. Golasinski was a faithful supporter of the Knights of Columbus especially with his many years of service as the Chaplain of Houston’s oldest, Council 803, and Chaplain of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Christ the King Court #1750. At the 10:00 am Mass, Sunday, July 14, 2013, 33 Sir Knights in full regalia from the Msgr. George A. Wilhelm Assembly and numerous other Archdiocesan assemblies, led by the First District of Texas Worthy District Master Harry Hunter, met Sir Knight Reverend Phong Nguyen, Parochial Vicar of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, to serve as the honor guard for the presentation of his Fourth Degree “specially engraved” sword. Fr. Phong joined the Knights of Columbus on June 7, 2003, is a Council 2917 member, was exemplified into the Fourth Degree on June 9, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
