Specialties  Debris-flow Fan and Debris Cone Processes, Evolution, and Hazards  Coupled Hillslope-Channel Processes and Forms  High-resolution Topographic Analyses and Geomorphic Change Detection  2D and 3D Flow Modeling (emphasis on debris flows)  Geomatics and Applications of Airborne and Terrestrial Laser Scanning, Structure-from-Motion, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems  Remote Sensing and Archeological Analysis

Research Activities Primary Research My current research explores environmental change detection in a variety of geographical contexts to examine the natural and human induced changes to the Earth’s surface. The scientific concepts my research considers are the identification and analysis of spatial patterns in complex surficial features with the aid of repeat high-resolution topographic data. My research has been the use numerical models to investigate the potential risks of natural and wicked events on the built environment and urban populations.

Secondary Research A secondary research interest involves remote-sensing data capture, analysis, and visualization in archeology and historical site preservation/visualization. Collaborative efforts with several archeologists and historians are exploring the development of methods to record archeological databases in the field with the aid of remote sensing techniques and GIS. We are also interested in applying remote sensing techniques to detect deformation in watercraft and other built structures. I also have experience in recording and analyzing rock art with terrestrial laser scanning.
