Officers

Chairman Tom Robinson is a former employee of Food Lion, LLC. During his 30 years at Food Lion, he served in multiple roles completing his career as Food Lion’s SVP and Chief Merchandising Officer. Since retiring in 2013, Robinson invests his efforts volunteering with non-profit foundations. In addition to our foundation, he actively serves on the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Hands of a Sportsman. He is a 1983 graduate of College of Business and is a proud Pirate. Robinson and his wife, Clarissa, reside in Salisbury. Robinson previously served as Chair of the Development and Donor Relations committee at the Foundation. Currently, as Chairman, Robinson serves on all committees.

Vice-Chairman David “Jordy” Whichard, III., attended UNC Chapel Hill where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Relations and Political Science. Throughout his career, he held various roles including general manager and CEO of The Daily Reflector, which his family founded in 1882. Whichard served on the ECU Board of Trustees from 1995- 2003 and has played a key role in the growth of the state, specifically the Research Triangle Park area, as well as the region. Since his retirement from the newspaper in 2009 he has dedicated himself to serving on several boards across the state. Dave Whichard, Jordy’s late father, served on the Foundation Board until 2012. Whichard and his wife, Ann, reside in Greenville and have 2 children. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Whichard serves on the Executive, Engagement, Budget, and Stewardship committees.

Secretary Deanna Boyette, MD, opened Boyette Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, PA in 2010. Prior to opening her practice, Dr. Boyette received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University, followed by her medical degree from the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency and fellowship training at and currently serves as clinical professor in the Department of Surgery at the Brody School of Medicine. In 2007 she returned to Duke University to complete a foot and ankle fellowship which has allowed her to help advance foot and ankle care in Eastern . Dr. Boyette and her husband, Dr. Chris Mann, reside in Greenville where they spend most of their time outside enjoying all eastern NC has to offer. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Boyette gladly serves on the Executive and Strategic Planning committees.

Directors

William Brody is the founder and managing director of BlueDot Properties, a commercial real estate investment and property management firm based in Durham, NC. He graduated with an Economics degree from Duke University in 2012 and then earned by MBA in 2018 at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. William also serves as a Duke University Trustee Observer for 2019-20. He is the son of Hyman and Stacy Brody, both Emeritus Board Members. William and his wife, Laura, reside in Durham. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation Board Member, Brody serves on the Executive, Investment, Engagement and Stewardship committees.

Cassandra B. Burt attended ECU in the early 1980’s after which, she became a long-time employee of Hastings Ford. During her time there, she served in the accounting office as well as in the office manager role. She is currently an active member and treasurer of the Seaside Arts Council in Swansboro, North Carolina. She spends a great deal of time volunteering throughout the community. Burt and her husband, Travis, are passionate about their work with the local Boys and Girls Club of Morehead City. They also take pride in supporting youth sport programs, and volunteering with Hope Mission. The Burt’s are also passionate members of the Pirate Club. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Burt serves on the Development and Donor Relations committee. Paul R. G. Cunningham, MD graduated from the University of the West Indies, where he received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees. He completed his residency in surgery at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Throughout his career, Dr. Cunningham held various appointments in the field of medicine including, professor and hospital chief of staff. He served in several capacities at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Bertie County Memorial Hospital, and in the Department of Surgery at the State University of New York. Prior to his retirement in 2016, Dr. Cunningham served as Dean and Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs at the Brody School of Medicine at ECU, a role which he held for eight years. Dr. Cunningham and his wife, Sydney, currently reside in Grimesland. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Cunningham serves on the Development and Donor Relations and Executive committees. Taylor Duck is a two-time graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Business Administration as well as a master’s in Public Administration. During her college tenure she played soccer for the Pirates until she was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 21. Her unfortunate diagnosis ultimately shaped her career path and community involvement as she has spent the majority of her time dedicated to raising awareness, advocating for better treatment options and more research funding for cancer patients. She currently serves as an Oncology Sales Representative for Merck Pharmaceuticals. Prior to her current role she served as the Physician Outreach & Market Development Manager for the Oncology Service Line at , Director of Development for the College of Business at ECU, and as Community Outreach Manager for UNC Carolina Well Support & Survivorship Program, part of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Support Program. Outside of her career, Duck has devoted her time to serving the community through a number of organizations. She is currently serving as a Board Member & Executive Committee Member, Vice Chair (Membership & Marketing) for the Pitt-Greenville Chamber of Commerce, Board Member & Executive Committee Member (Resource Development) for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain, and as an Advisor for Chi Omega Sorority at ECU. Duck has had the opportunity to serve as a consultant for Medtronic Interval Lung Solutions providing advisory and consultative services relating to professional education, training, & marketing programs. She is a former board member for the North Carolina Lung Cancer Initiative and has served in several roles with the Go2 Foundation for Lung Cancer, formally the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation based out of San Francisco, CA. She is married to Robert who is a high school Health & PE Teacher & Coach, they reside in Greenville, and spend as much time as possible at the beach during the summers with their chocolate lab, Cayman. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Duck serves on the Engagement committee.

William P. Franklin Jr. “Will”, is a Campbell University graduate and studied business administration and trust management during his time there. Franklin has worked for First Citizens Bank for over 13 years and currently is the Commercial Banking Manager. Franklin is involved in a number of organizations within the Greenville community including the Greenville Pitt County Chamber of Commerce where he is the past Chairman and currently sits on the Board of Directors, and the Greenville Firefighters Relief Fund where he is a Board Member and the treasure. When not working or volunteering in the community, Franklin spends time with his wife, Karen R. Franklin, and his two twin daughters. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Franklin serves on the Executive, Budget and Investment committees.

R. Scott Griffin, “Scott” is the CEO of Practicon, a Greenville based dental supply company that serves dental professionals in the U.S, Canada, and other countries around the world. Prior to his role at Practicon, Griffin received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Wake Forest University. Upon his graduation in 1982, he continued his education at East Carolina University, receiving his Master of Business Administration Degree in 1984. Griffin is a member of Vistage, a CEO peer group that provides professional development, coaching, and mentoring opportunities and the Pitt-Greenville Chamber of Commerce. Outside of his work and professional development, Griffin sets on the Board of Directors for a number of organizations including, the World Help Organization, the Eastern Carolina Vocational Center, and the Third Street Community Center. Griffin and his wife, Patty, are active member of Covenant Church in Winterville. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Griffin serves on the Audit and Engagement committees. Benjamin Hardy, “Bennie”, received his in Accounting from East Carolina University in 1989. He is currently a partner at Page & Smith, P.A where he works at a Certified Public Accountant. Hardy is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as well as with the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA) and the NCACPA Accounting and Attestation Committee. In addition to his career, Hardy is former Chair of the Greenville Pitt County Chamber of Commerce. Hardy and his wife, Laura, reside in La Grange with their two sons. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Hardy gladly serves on the Audit and Budget committees. Captain Joseph “Sheldon” Jenkins grew up in NC and graduated from high school in State College, . CAPT Jenkins' education includes an undergraduate degree from ECU in Occupational Therapy; Master’s degree in health care administration from Webster’s University; and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Navy Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. Upon graduation from high school, CAPT Jenkins enlisted in the Navy as Cryptologist and spent four years on active duty. From 1995 to 2000, Jenkins practiced as an Occupational Therapist in eastern NC. In 1998, Jenkins was commissioned as a Naval Reserve Occupational Therapist on board the USS North Carolina (BB-55) and served two years with the Navy Reserves in Wilmington, NC. Since 2000, when CAPT Jenkins accepted a direct commission as a Healthcare Administrator in Quantico, Virginia, he has served in many capacities including a deployment to Al Asad, Iraq with Combat Logistics Battalion 2. He also served as the Chief Financial Officer of the Navy Health Clinic in Charleston, SC and Chief Financial Officer at Navy Medicine East in Portsmouth, VA. Currently, CAPT Jenkins is the Chief of Staff for the Tidewater Hampton Roads Military Health System in eastern Virginia. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Jenkins serves on the Budget committee. Jeffrey “Todd” Kornegay, MD, originally from Duplin County, NC, is married to Jennifer Russell Kornegay. Dr. Kornegay received his undergraduate degree from ECU in 2002, followed by medical school and residency at the Brody School of Medicine. Since his graduation, he has been a partner at the New Hanover Medical Group in Wilmington, NC. Dr. Kornegay is active with the New Hanover/Pender County Medical Society, the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Employee Health Operating Committee, and the North American Outdoor Education Center. He also serves on the Board of the Cape Fear Council. Dr. Kornegay enjoys staying connected to ECU by taking part in the Pirate Club, Doubloon’s Circle, Chancellor’s Society, and Friends of the Joyner Library. In 2014, Kornegay was named a Healthcare Hero finalist by the Greater Wilmington Business Journal. Kornegay also holds board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Kornegay serves on the Engagement committee.

Dasha Efrid Little is a 1981 graduate of ECU where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Art. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she received her in Guidance and Counseling. In the years after graduation, Little owned private counseling practices in vocational rehabilitation and life care planning. Little is currently President/CEO of Apogee Solutions, a company that seeks to provide consulting and professional, technical, and program management services to U.S Government organizations. She formed Apogee Solutions in 2002 and has since taken pride in working with our Nation’s Wounded Warriors. Little has won numerous awards including being named one of the ECU Incredible Women by the ECU Women’s Roundtable, the Women in Business Achievement Award from Inside Business, and the Minerva Award for Leading Women Business Owners in Hampton Roads by the Small Business Institute. She is an active member of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals in the Private Sector. Outside of her career, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Duane “Kirk”, and children. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Little serves on the Development and Donor Relations and Budget committees.

Katherine Mackey is a Vice President of Ketchum’s Issues and Crisis team. She works across multiple industries including healthcare, energy, retail, and technology. Mackey brings deep industry knowledge across the sectors in which she has worked, as well as specialized experience working on issues and crises that include data breaches, contract negotiations, lawsuits, product recalls and many other reputational threats on behalf of her clients. She works proactively with clients on assessing and building crisis management structures and capabilities among teams before a crisis hits, as well as providing in the moment, critical war-room counseling. In addition, she manages ongoing monitoring and stakeholder engagement programs to enhance clients’ issues in management efforts. Prior to joining Ketchum, she worked at two Washington, D.C. agencies specializing in crisis communications and public affairs for healthcare clients. Mackey graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a minor in Journalism and Mass Communication. She resides in Greenville, NC, with her husband, Smith, and their twin daughters, Sadie and Mae. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Mackey serves on the Development and Donor Relations committee.

Julius Mallette, MD, spent his formative years in both Wilmington and Raleigh, NC. After receiving his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biochemistry from NC State University, he headed to eastern NC where he had a profound impact for years to come. Dr. Mallette graduated from the Brody School of Medicine in 1982, only the second four- year class to complete their education at the medical school. He completed his internship and residency training in Nashville, TN and in Greenville, NC. Dr. Mallette served in many roles such as Clinical Instructor, Clinical Associate Professor and Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. At the Brody School of Medicine, he also served as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assistant VC for Regional Health Services. He has over 35 years of experience and has delivered over 4,000 babies during his career. Dr. Mallette was a member of the Student National Medical Association and became the advisor of the organization as a faculty member. He was also instrumental in working with the American Association of Medical Colleges on the LCME Accreditation at the Brody School of Medicine. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Mallette serves on the Development and Donor Relations committee.

Diane Adkins Poole has spent over 40 years serving as a nurse, teacher, and leader. Poole received her diploma in nursing from Lenoir Memorial Hospital in 1971, followed by her bachelor and master’s degrees from the ECU College of Nursing. After graduation, she held many staff and management positions at a number of hospitals across the region, including the NC Memorial Hospital and Lenoir Memorial Hospital. She served on faculty at Lenoir Community College and at the ECU College of Nursing before spending 30 years at Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now ) and University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina (now Vidant Health). During that time, she held multiple executive roles including Vice President of Nursing, Chief Quality Officer, and Executive Vice President. Poole was awarded the College of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007 and was inducted into the College of Nursing Hall of Fame in 2011. Poole retired from her duties in 2011 and has since spent her time with her husband, Carson R. Poole, Jr., traveling throughout the United States. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Poole serves on the Development and Donor Relations, Audit, and Strategic Planning committees. Fernando Puente, MD, received his undergraduate, master’s, and doctorate degrees from ECU. Upon graduating from the Brody School of Medicine in 1981, he completed his residency at the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine followed by his dermatology residency at King-Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles. He then relocated to Raleigh, NC, and opened Raleigh Dermatology in 1990. Since that time, he has opened a skin rejuvenation center and continues to enrich his medical education by attending American Academy of Dermatology conferences. Dr. Puente and his wife, Carol, have been married since 1977 and have 3 grown children. Dr. Puente enjoys distance running and has completed 67 marathons to date. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Puente serves on the Engagement committee.

Mary Raab, MD, is a 1964 graduate of Misericordia College. Upon graduation, she continued her education at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Dr. Raab moved to Greenville, NC, in 1977 where she began her work in the oncology department at the BSOM. During her time at Brody, she served as the first female Chief of Medical Staff, the Assistant Director of Admissions, and the Medical Director of Hematology and Oncology Clinic Services. Her goal quickly became to make health care more readily accessible for those battling cancer in eastern NC. Dr. Raab was instrumental in establishing the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center and helped lead fundraising efforts to establish the America Cancer Society’s McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge. The Hope Lodge, which serves patients and their families while receiving cancer treatment, was established in 2002 and is the only facility of its kind in the state. Dr. Raab and her husband William McConnell, are members of the ECU Chancellor’s Society, the Leo Jenkin’s Society, and the Heritage Society. Dr. Raab has received many awards including the ECU 2015 Honorary Alumni Award and the 2016 Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award. She actively serves as the Honorary Chair for the Vidant Campaign, as well as sits on the Wells Fargo Bank Advisory Board. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Raab serves on the Development and Donor Relations committee.

Uday N. Reebye, MD, DMD, is a 1998 graduate of Boston University School of Dental Medicine. In addition, he attended medical school at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill and graduated with his degree in 2004. Dr. Reebye’s surgical training includes an Oral Maxillofacial internship at Boston Medical Center, General Surgery Training at UNC-Chapel Hill and an Oral Maxilloficial Residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Reebye is founder of Triangle Implant Center, which has 6 locations across the state that specialize in dental impact surgery, wisdom tooth removal, and orthognathic surgery. Dr. Reebye and his wife, Laura, reside in Chapel Hill with their two daughters. Outside of his career, Dr. Reebye enjoys playing tennis, gardening, and traveling with his family. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Reebye gladly serves on the Investment committee. Thomas L. Southern, “Tom”, is a 1974 graduate of East Carolina University. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and has since worked in the financial services field. Upon graduation he became employed by Jefferson Standard and in 1983 began work with MassMutual. He and his wife, Mary Ann, are part of the Order of the Wright Circle and avid members of the Pirate Club. Southern has served on the ECU College of Business Advisory Council and is a former member of the ECU Board of Visitors and the ECU Planned Support Council. Outside of his professional endeavors, Southern enjoys being part of the New Bern Noon Rotary, and the Eastern North Carolina Yacht Club. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Southern gladly serves on the Executive, Audit, and Investment committees.

Lewis “Randy” Strickland, EdD, received his BS in Occupational Therapy from ECU and his and doctorate from North Carolina State University. Dr. Strickland and his wife, Dr. Laura Strickland, both recently retired from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky where they served on faculty in the Department of Occupational Therapy. During their time at Spalding, Dr. Strickland also served as Provost. Throughout his career, Dr. Strickland has led extensive rehabilitation programs in several states including Kentucky, Texas, and North Carolina. Drs. Strickland currently reside in Dunn and are members of the University’s Leo Jenkins Society. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Strickland serves on the Budget committee.

Jonathan Taft is a native of Greenville, North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree on Public Policy with a focus on Analysis. After graduating from Chapel Hill, Taft began a career in government as a legislative assistant in the Washington, DC office of Congressman G. K. Butterfield. In May of 2016, he received a Juris Doctor degree from Charleston School of Law. Taft has since returned to Greenville where he is Principal of Taft Family Ventures. In this role he oversees all current projects that are in the pre-construction, construction, and stabilization phases of development. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation Board Member, Taft gladly serves on the Executive and Engagement committees. Phillip Z. Timmons, MD, is a nephrologist in Raleigh, at North Carolina Nephrology, PA. He received his medical degree from the Brody School of Medicine in 1990 and has been practicing for 29 years. He completed his Internal Medicine training at Norwalk Hospital and Yale-New Haven Hospital, and a Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Timmons and his wife, Patricia, reside in Raleigh. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Timmons serves on the Investment committee.

Kathy H. Walker graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Radiology Technology. She worked for many years as the Director of Diagnostic Imaging at the Henry County Hospital in New Castle, Indiana. Walker and her husband, Dr. Paul R. Walker, relocated to Greenville, North Carolina, and has since become very involved in volunteering with local cancer care and children’s organizations within the Greenville area. Walker is also an involved member of the Youth Opportunity Center Foundation and the Cancer Support Community NC Board of Directors. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Walker serves on the Development and Donor Relations, Engagement, and Strategic Planning committees.

David L. Ward, Jr., has spent his life and career serving the people of North Carolina. After receiving his undergraduate degree in accounting from University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill, he continued his education at the Duke University School of Law. Ward has spent his career practicing at Ward & Smith, P.A, a successor to a practice founded in 1895. His practice experience has grown to encompass banking, litigation, trust and estates, and many other phases of business law. Outside of his successful career, Ward has served on the Board of Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina and on the Medlin Commission on the Future of the Courts in North Carolina. In past years, Ward has been inducted into the North Carolina Bar Association Hall of Fame and the North Carolina Bar Foundation Justice Fund Wall of Honor. Ward and his wife, Elizabeth Reese Ward, currently reside New Bern. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Ward serves on the Audit and Investment committees.

Heber W. Windley III, DDS, MS graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Chemistry in 1986. He earned his DDS degree from The UNC School of Dentistry in 1990. In addition, Dr. Windley completed his Periodontology residency at UNC in 1993 with a Master of Science degree; he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He has been in private practice in Wake County since that time with a primary practice site in Zebulon where he has served the local communities and beyond with specialized care. Dr. Windley enjoys the interdisciplinary approach to patient care and spends a great deal of time coordinating care with other dental and healthcare professionals. Dr. Windley and his wife, Gina, a pharmacist, live in Zebulon and have two children, Taylor Maria, and Heber IV. Taylor graduated from The ECU School of Dental Medicine in 2020; she will continue her education in a Pediatric Dentistry residency at The in Gainesville. Dr. Windley enjoys time spent with his family and friends, attending UNC sporting events, spending time at the Pamlico River, and working in his yard. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Dr. Windley serves on the Investment committee.

Kevin B. Youngs, a 1998 graduate of East Carolina University and a 2004 graduate of ECU’s physical therapy program, owns and operates Youngs Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab. Prior to opening his practice in 2013, he was employed by ECU Physicians. Youngs has served as a physical therapy provider to ECU student athletes for the past five years and is committed to providing the best therapy and wellness programs to his patients. As a resident of Greenville, Youngs and his wife, Jennifer, have three young boys and are passionate about giving back to their community. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Youngs serves on the Strategic Planning committee.

Emeritus Members

Hyman J. Brody studied economics at the Wharton School- University of Pennsylvania. He is currently the CEO of BrodyCo, Inc., a commercial real estate firm in Greenville. He and his wife, Stacy Copeland Brody, enjoy being involved within the local community. Brody belongs to the Young Presidents Organization, is a Lawrenceville School Trustee, and has severed as a Board Member on many civic, educational, and medical foundations locally and across the state. Brody first joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 1997.

Stacy C. Brody earned her degree in journalism from University of Maryland, College Park in 1983. Since that time, she has spent her life devoted to serving her community. Formally, Brody served on the Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now Vidant Medical Center) Board of Directors. She has also been involved with the local Boys and Girls Club and the Ronald McDonald House. Brody currently volunteers at W. H. Robinson Elementary School in Winterville, and the Special Care Nursery at Vidant Medical Center. Brody and her husband, Hyman, reside in Greenville. Brody first joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 2008. Richard Brown is the past Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance at ECU. He received his degree in 1970 from SUNY at Binghamton. After retiring from the University, he and his wife, Debbie, moved to Emerald Isle, NC. Brown is a founding Chancellors’ Society Member and has served on many ECU boards including the Alumni Association, Pirate Club and the ECU Foundation. Brown joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 2005 and served as Chairman from 2013-2015. James W. Chesnutt, “Jim” obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from East Carolina University. Since that time, he has worked with the North Carolina National Bank, Harriet and Henderson, Inc., and National Spinning Co. Inc., where he was the Chairman of the Board and CEO. Chesnutt is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Vidant Medical Center and the Beaufort County Community College. He participates as a member of the Board of Directors for the NC Chamber of Commerce and the Beaufort County Committee of 100. Chesnutt is also part of the ECU College of Business Advisory Council. Outside of his service to the community, he is passionate about his family and work. Chesnutt first joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 2003.

Sue Collier has devoted her career to bettering health care in eastern North Carolina. She is a two-time graduate of East Carolina University’s College of Nursing, obtaining both her bachelor and master’s degrees in that field. She is currently serving as the Clinical Content Development Lead for the American Hospital Association & Health Research Educational Trust. Prior to her current role, Collier was an employed by Vidant Health for 32 years. During her time at Vidant, she held a number of positions, including head nurse for Surgery/Trauma ICU and Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Level 1 Trauma Center. She also served in several executive leadership positions, including Vice President for Corporate Planning and Business Development, and Vidant’s first Corporate Vice President for Patient-Family Experience. Outside of her career, Collier has devoted her time to serving the community and has been involved in a number of organizations. She has served or is currently serving as a Board Member for the United Way of Pitt County, the East Carolina University Women’s Roundtable, the Carolinas Society of Healthcare Strategy and Market Development, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Carolina, and the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce, among many others.

Jonathan R. Day, “Jon”, is currently President of Jon Day & Associates, Inc., a local commercial real estate brokerage firm that has been in existence since 1997. Prior to owning his real estate firm, Day worked at Collice C. Moore & Associates as a real estate appraiser, Aldridge and Southerland Realtors, and Blount and Ball Realty Company. Day is a 1975 Graduate of East Carolina University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Day is a Realtor, and graduate of the Realtors Institute. Outside of his work, he is a member of the Greenville Comprehensive Planning Committee, a Rotarian, and Past Chairman of the Greenville Greenway Committee. Day and his wife, Terry L Day, reside in Greenville, NC. Day has previously served on the Investment Committee, the Audit Committee, and Executive committees at the Foundation and is the former Chairman. Thomas L. Edwards, Sr., “Tommy”, serves as president and CEO of Carolina Ice Company, Inc. and Edwards Priority Group. He and his wife, Carla, reside in Greenville, North Carolina and are members of the ECU Chancellor’s Society and Order of the Cupola. Edwards served on the University’s Board of Visitors from 2010- 2012. Edwards first joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 2006 and served as Chairman from 2009-2011.

E. Bradley Evans, “Brad”, is a 1998 graduate of Wake Forest University. He also received his law degree from Wake Forest in 2002. Upon graduation, Brad and his wife, Elizabeth W. Evans, “Liz”, moved to Greenville, NC. He spent his first year of work practicing as the Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Malcolm J. Howard, United States District Court for Eastern North Carolina. After completing his clerkship, he entered private practice with Ward and Smith, P.A, where his practice concentrates on commercial, business, and estate litigation. Evans is involved in a number of organizations within the community including, Oakmont Baptist Church, the Eastern North Carolina Inn of Court, where he serves as the president, and the Greenville Rotary Club, among many others.

John M. Hines is a 1962 graduate of Duke University where he studied accounting. Upon the completion of his degree, he then attended Duke University School of Law. Hines then worked for nearly 20 years as the Managing Partner for White, Allen, Hooten, Hodges, & Hines. During this time, he engaged in active practice of tax and corporate law, primarily in Eastern NC. Hines also worked as a co-founder of Eastern Carolina Coca Cola Bottling Company, Inc. (“Eastern Coke”), where he served as President and a Director of Eastern Coke until it was sold to Coca Cola USA in 1992. In 1993, Hines entered the tobacco dealer business by serving as Senior Vice President and Director, of A. C. Monk & Company Inc., a family owned international tobacco dealer firm based in Farmville. Hines spent the next 15 years holding various roles within the family owned business and helped to spearhead and negotiate the merge of several companies which ultimately led to the formation of Alliance One International Incorporated. Since entering into his retirement, Hines has enjoyed serving as a member of the Duke Hospital Advisory Board. Hines first joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 1998.

Robert “Roddy” Jones, a native of Raleigh, N.C, attended East Carolina University and graduated in 1958 with a degree in Geography. Upon graduation, he returned to Raleigh to work for the family business, Davidson and Jones Construction Company. He held a number of roles before being appointed President of Davidson and Jones, Inc. in 1973 and served in this role until 1993. He remains active with the company today, serving as chairman. Jones has also been involved with many other aspects of the construction industry including, having served as President of the Carolinas Branch of The Associated General Contactor of America, National Director of The Associated General Contractors of America, Chairman of the Carolinas Construction Training Council and on the State Advisory Council of Vocational Education. Jones is the past Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina and has served on multiple education boards around the state. In 1972, Jones received the ECU Outstanding Alumni Award and is a recipient of The Order of The Long Leaf Pine by the State of North Carolina. Jones is former Chairman of the Board of Trustees at ECU and has contributed to the University in a number of ways both during his time as a student, and since his graduation. Jones and his wife, Eve Avery Jones, reside in Raleigh and have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Jones first joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 2004.

Vincent Robert Jones, “Rob”, is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of the little bank and has held this position since 2002. Prior to his work at the little bank, Jones held various roles with the North Carolina National Bank and Bank of America. Jones is a 1978 graduate of East Carolina University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Outside of his work, Jones is involved with the ECU College of Business Advisory Committee and serves as a Board Member for the Kinston Community Health Center. Jones and his wife, Joan Adams Jones, reside in Greenville, NC. As an ECU Medical & Health Sciences Board Member, Jones serves on the Executive, Audit, Investment, and Strategic Planning committees. Suzanne Pecheles is a 1981 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill where she studied Business Administration. She and her husband, Brian L. Pecheles, currently reside in Greenville, NC. Pecheles is active on the Boys & Girls Club of the Coastal Plains Board of Directors and is a 20-year volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She remains involved at ECU by participating in the Pirate Club and the Cupola Society. Doug Privette, MD, is a 1972 East Carolina University graduate. He attended medical school and completed his residency at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill, where he specialized in cardiology. Dr. Privette completed his fellowship at in 1981. He returned to Greenville where he practiced cardiology from 1981-2008. He then served as the Director of Regional Development at the East Carolina Heart Institute at Vidant Medical Center for 6 years before entering into retirement. Dr. Privette actively serves as the Chairman for the Brody School of Medicine Advancement Counsel and was named an ECU Distinguished Alumni in 2013. Dr. Privette and his wife, Terry Privette, have 3 daughters. Ledyard Ross, DDS, served in the US Marine Corps First Marine Division after graduating high school. After leaving the US Marine Corps in 1946 he briefly attended Hardbarger Business College before enrolling in then- East Carolina College. Dr. Ross went on to attend Northwestern University Dental School and graduated with a degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1953. Upon completing his degree, he took over a dental practice in Ayden, NC. In 1959 he returned to school, earning his Master of Science Degree in Orthodontics from UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Ross then continued his service in Ayden as an orthodontist until 1991, when his son took over his practice and he entered into retirement. Dr. Ross is associated with beautiful smiles and straightened teeth and is known for using the latest techniques to provide services to the people of eastern North Carolina. Dr. Ross first joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 2010.

H. L. Stephenson, III, “Steve”, attended the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill for both his undergraduate and law degrees. He then continued his education at the College of William & Mary Law School where he studied taxation. Stephenson has spent his legal career devoted to counseling business owners, managers, and other professionals on a wide variety of legal and business topics. Stephenson works for Ward and Smith, P.A, where he leads the firm’s business development and client relationship efforts. Stephenson was named Board Member of the Year for the North Carolina Area Council and Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 2014. In that same year, he was recognized as the Pitt County Citizen of the Year by the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce. Stephenson first joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 2001.

Shelby Strother has devoted much of her life to serving eastern North Carolina and East Carolina University. She is the past President of the ECU Alumni Association and the School of Music Alumni Society, a three-term member of the Friends of the Joyner Library, and has severed on the ECU Athletic National Collegiate Athletic Association Self-Study Committee. Before turning her career towards teaching music, Strother served in the health care industry as a nurse. During that time, she was the President of the Friends of the Chowan Hospital and Vice President of the North Carolina Hospital Volunteers. Prior to her retirement, Strother spent 32 years teaching music, most of which time was spent in the Edenton-Chowan School System. During those years, she enjoyed involvement in many choral and symphony groups, both locally and state-wide. Strother has received multiple awards including the ECU Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award, the ECU School of Music Alumni Professional Society’s Distinguished Music Alumnus Award, and in 2002 was inducted into the East Carolina Educators Hall of Fame. Strother first joined the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation in 2002.
