Dr. McIntosh joins Mercy Foundation board Volume 27, October 2006

Dr. Tom McIntosh, a retired physician, has become the newest member of the Mercy Foundation board. The foundation board oversees the planning, investment and fundraising activities of the endowment foundation. Since its creation in 1977, the Mercy Foundation has given Partners over $48 million to the hospital to support its capital, program and equipment needs. Mercy Medical Center Foundation Dr. McIntosh spent his undergraduate years at the University of Arizona on a full baseball scholarship. He attended medical school at St. Louis University followed by a residency at the University of Iowa. Dr. McIntosh practiced internal medicine in Cedar Rapids from 1970- 2002. He had a long and distinguished career serving in leadership positions at both hospitals and with several professional organizations. The Dennis and Donna Oldorf One of his many awards was the prestigious Iowa Laureate Award from the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Internal Medicine. In May 2006, he was the 8th recipient of the Hospice House of Mercy Gold-Headed Cane award – an award bestowed only occasionally by the Cedar Rapids medical staff to a person held in the highest esteem The area’s first hospice house soon to be a reality in his/her medical profession. During retirement, he serves as a physician volunteer and board member for the Community Health Free Clinic. In addition, he is a steering committee member for the “Sharing the Journey” hospice house capital campaign.
