The RLF’s purpose is to enable D&R Greenway to preserve land without having to permanently invest the full price of the property. The ability to buy land with the intent of re-selling it as conserved property enables D&R Greenway to counter the financial pressure developers can put on a landowner to sell before preservation can be funded. In some cases, the RLF provides “upfront” funds that enable the purchase and are reimbursed later from public funds. When the property is re-sold to a conservation buyer, or reimbursements are received, the proceeds come back to the RLF. Otto and his grandfather, a farmer and beekeeper in Slovakia.
