The History attributed to Abu Salih the Armenian is here edited for the first time, by the kind permission of the Minister of Public Instruction and of the Administrator of the National Library in Paris, from the unique MS. purchased by Vansleb in Egypt in the seven- teenth century, and now preserved in that Institution. The present edition is based upon a copy made by the editor from the original, which he afterwards had the advantage of comparing with another copy most liberally placed at his disposal by M. l'Abbe Hyvernat, together with the results of a collation by Professor Ignazio Guidi. To these eminent scholars, therefore, the editor begs to express his deepest gratitude. Professor Margoliouth has also had the goodness to look through both the copy of the text and the translation, and to elucidate many points of difficulty.

The importance of the spiritual growth of the family unit cannot be stressed enough. This can be clearly illustrated in the wonderful verse from the Bible: "I and my family worship the Lord" (Josh 24:15).

  • St Basil Coptic Liturgy
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, King of Kings and Lord of lords His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark THE COPTIC LITURGY OF ST. BASIL INTRODUCTION TO THE FOURTH EDITION Since the printing of the third edition, the Coptic Orthodox Sunday School received many corrections and constructive criticism which was all accumulated in readiness for this fourth edition. Mrs. Amal Abd-El-Sayed of St Mark’s Sunday School, Arncliffe, NSW, has edited and corrected this fourth edition. Mr. Michael Abdel-Sayed, of COEPA, adapted the electronic version of the edited hard copy, producing an electronic version, which was then handed to Delta Center Printing House in Alexandria, Egypt. The Sunday English liturgy has been going from strength to strength in the city of Sydney. The Coptic English liturgy is no longer just for expatriate Copts, who no longer comprehend any other language but English. The English liturgy is currently one of the most effective means of mission to all Australians, and to other ethnic groups. The English liturgy has been a huge leap towards freeing Coptic Orthodox conversions from any ethnic tinge. While Coptic Orthodoxy is aiming to attract people to Christ within the frame of rich Orthodox tradition, we are extremely careful not to append or demand an ethnic conversion to accompany the Christian Orthodox one. We are also looking forward to the time when non-Egyptian converts join the Coptic monastic and priestly ranks. This is only possible through full involve- ment in the liturgical life of the Church.

  • Introduction to the Coptic Orthodox Church
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ King of Kings and Lord of lords Icon designed by Dr. Yousef Nassief and Dr. Bedour Latif H.H. Pope Shenouda III, 117th Pope of Alexandria and the See of St. Mark INTRODUCTION TO THE COPTIC ORTHODOX CHURCH 1993 FR. TADROS Y. MALATY ST. GEORGE'S COPTIC ORTHODOX CHURCH SPORTING - ALEXANDRIA EGYPT 4 BLESSED IS EGYPT MY PEOPLE Isa. 19:25 God's promise to His people is always fulfilled; He foretold that He would ride on a light and upon a swift cloud and come to Egypt (Isa 19:1); and in that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its border (Isa 19:19). This promise was fulfilled by the flight of the Holy Family from the face of the tyrant Herod to find refuge among the Gentiles. Thus Jesus Christ came during His childhood to Egypt to lay by Himself the foundation stone of His Church in Egypt which has be- come one of the four primary "Sees" in the world, among the churches of Jerusalem, Antioch and Rome, joined later by the "See" of Constantinople. The star of the Egyptian Church shone through the School of Alexandria which taught Christendom the allegoric and spiritual methods in interpreting the Scripture, and was the leader in defending the Orthodox faith on an ecumenical level. The Christian monastic movement in all its forms started in Egypt, attracting the heart of the Church towards the desert, to practice the angelic inner life.

We are stirred within, filled with happiness, glee, and joy. The object of our delight capti- vates us, and we are eager, sometimes beyond words, to obtain it. Have you ever been delighted by your faith, the Gospel, God's Word, or an encounter with God? The Gen- tiles were delighted when they learned they were sharers in the Good News and ecstatic that they were included. They recognized their shepherd and realized that they discov- ered something or someone unlike any other before. We can easily become lukewarm in our relationship with God and forget just how life-changing the Good News of our faith really is. We are brought to the springs of life-giving water and are gifted with something secular life simply cannot provide: Jesus, the Good Shepherd. PASTORAL STAFF Reverend Quy N.
