The chapter extended full support in filing for the UAP-MWF benefit to help his family in small ways.

We wish to thank Mrs. Clarissa and her daughter, Anne Mendoza for spending their time with us to honor Rolly. He may be gone but his memories will always remain in our hearts. We also want to thank NP Renato Heray for lending us his valuable time to comfort the family of Rolly who lost his battle with Covid-19. UAP Barasoain “Breaking-The-Habit-Challenge” participants came together for a photoshoot at the Barasoain Church, City, on December 10, 2020. The activity was also in line with the National Architecture Week (NAW) Celebration held nationwide from December 7- 12, 2020. For the first time since the Luzon-wide quarantine last March 16, twelve (12) members gather together to celebrate NAW through the UAP Barasoain’s #BTHChallenge Program focused on promoting health and fitness awareness for members while strengthening relationships among participants. Biking, running, walking, and other forms of home exercise have helped many of our members cope with stress and anxiety brought about by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This program is also our way of promoting the UAP “#GetAnArchitect” advocacy campaign. Wearing their uniforms, participants cycle around Bulacan, run in Malolos City running hubs, and post their activities on their FB pages to promote said advocacy.

Cheers to a more successful #BTHChallenge, #UnityAndCamaraderie, and #GetAnArchitect advocacy campaigns!!!

The webinar started with an introduction and definition of the Program “Brand: U”, where she talked about the things to remember in Personal Branding, Experience people in relationship with you and how Personal Brand is your reputation.

She discussed that in the new normal, our “Life” is “Lived Online”, where we make, gather, and find Information, Entertainment, Education, Human Connection, and Support. These interactions create experiences and memories. She also talks about how “Interaction” nowadays became Contracted and Expanded.

Ms. Rebollos presented and enumerated some of the well-known personalities with a “Personal Branding” and why having a “Personal Branding” is quite relevant:  Your virtual self and real self could be aligned  It allows you to connect to other people  It builds your credibility  As you continue to communicate your Branding, you become an expert  And you’ll become top of mind, hence, more opportunities

She also presented data that shows how the brand “precedes” you when you manage your digital footprint right. As the Webinar went on she discussed how to wield the power of your Branding by:  Being Authentic  Being Consistent  Your Presence  Your need to evolve  Being relevant

She discussed how to communicate online through Visual, Voice, and Content. On how to communicate using Content or Words, she talked about how powerful one’s words are:  What you say will be judged  People react to words based on their internal condition  Your words can make or break you and be Impeccable  You must use your “Leadership Language”:  Purposeful content (Positive+Encouraging+Empowering)  Re-phrase and Re-frame and Appropriates

On how to communicate using Voice, she presented a quote from Wendy LeBorgne, Voice Pathologist “Your voice shapes your communication image”. She also said that your voice is your thumbprint, calling card, and label. Ms. Cecille discussed a few things about “Your Voice” and “Your Vocal Infrastructure”. First she mentioned “For your Voice”, you must have to practice the following:

You must have a perfect voice  Take it slow and breathe  Check your Volume For your vocal infrastructure, you must perform mic check (+Invest) and speakers

Finally, on how to communicate using Visual, she presented powerful slides in 7 seconds. According to her, “It only takes time 7 seconds for people to make an opinion about you”. Visually, you must consider the following:  Grooming  Keep your hair away from your Face  For Ladies, Light Makeup does wonder  For Gentlemen, Manage your beards  Dress up and Show up  Crisp, Clean, Casual  Dress for success for a major presentation  Body language  Posture  Facial expressions,  Gesture  Eyes on the Camera

You must also set up your stage as the following:  Lighting is key  No background: Neat and Organized  Background: Appropriate branded and uncluttered desk

MONTHLY CHAPTER REPORT | This report can be viewed at the UAP Corporate Website www.united-architects.org Page 13 of 42

So “How to Start?” according to our speaker...  Personal Brand Vision – Purpose, Values, Passions, What you’re good at, What you are known for, and Competitive edge.  Goals & Objectives – Crystalize what you want and where you want to go? What is your message? and Your narrative.  Audit – Personal resources, Digital audit + audience feedback, and Industry scan.  Personal Brand Strategy – How to utilize all the resources to meet your goals and objectives.  Action Plans – The best way to utilize all your resources to meet your goals and objectives

#BTHChallenge is a very timely and innovative member-centric program that aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and routine to our members while limiting their exposure to COVID-19. Taking care of our physical and mental health not only improves overall health and wellness but also makes us more resilient during this time of pandemic. Having an active lifestyle produces many benefits that include better overall health, sound sleep, increased energy and immune system, improved metabolism, reduced stress, anxiety and depression, and lower risk of health problems.

This activity also keeps members connected through the group page interactions where camaraderie and companionship happen virtually. The running and cycling tours even develop stronger bonds not just among members but also with their guests. Staying active and connected keeps the participants sane, well-balanced, and positive-looking amidst the current situation.

The outdoor activities also aim to build awareness of the UAP #GetAnArchitect campaign with the participants wearing the drifit uniform and face mask designed for this purpose as they cycle around or run to nearby running hubs to promote this advocacy.

Since its launch last August 22, 2020, by the chapter Committee on Sports headed by Ar. Ron Vincent R. De Leon, a total of twenty (20) chapter members have registered officially for the program and twenty-eight (28) have joined the “Breaking the Habit Participants” FB group page sharing their health and fitness journeys to motivate everyone in the group.

Shown in the next pages are photos of the activities that were shared by members and participants in the #BTHChallenge FB Group page. These activities were also shared on the UAP Barasoain Chapter private group page to inspire and encourage other members to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

Stay connected, active, healthy, and safe!

KYP Live: Member First with Committee on Anti- Illegal Practice Hosts: Ar JP Espino, Ar Pacoy Aniag (UAP Barasoain) Guests: Ar Jomari Badilla. Atty Marc Virtucio Written by: Ar. Vahn Pineda, uap

With issues circulating over social media about the several individuals illegally practicing architecture, the UAP Comms has decided to do an episode inviting the UAP Committee on Anti-Illegal Practice to talk and share what the Committee has been doing to combat these illegal practices.

Guests first discussed what the Anti-Illegal Practice was. This FY is chaired and spearheaded by Ar. Dave Comandante with Ar. Rosa Regala as vice-chair and Ar. Marc Virtucio as the spokesperson. Ar. Jomari Badilla, a member of the Committee, mentioned that this does not just involve the people inside the Committee since other architects and individuals can also collaborate as contributors. The Committee has been working in the background and is being led by the UAP National making sure directives are correct.

According to Architect/Attorney Marc Virtucio, illegal practice of the profession encompasses two provisions of RA 9266, namely, section 23F and section 29. Violation of any provisions of the RA 9266, its IRR, the Code of Ethical Conduct, and the Standards of Professional Practice are all considered an unlawful practice of the profession. He defined the illegal practice as any person who violates any provision in RA9266 committing unlawful practice of the profession. In RA 9266 alone, there are 37 instances contained therein where a person commits the unlawful practice.

Atty. Marc also mentioned that the Anti-Illegal Practice has a 3-prong approach: Prevention, Mitigation, Conviction to which is the basis of action of the Committee. The essence of the Committee is to let the people know about illegal practices and what can be done to these.

To file an illegal practice case, Atty. Marc mentioned the two types that may be filed and these require different pieces of evidence:  Administrative case: substantial evidence or pieces of evidence that a reasonable mind can perceive and understand and build a case. The administrative case only refers to the professional and heard by the PRC (Philippines Regulatory Commission) thru the PRBoA (Phillippine Regulatory Board of Architecture)  Criminal case: proof beyond a reasonable doubt, to which Atty Marc mentioned may be difficult since anyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Criminal cases involve individuals outside of the profession.

During the live broadcast, a statement addressing the issue of illegal practice from UAP National President Renato Heray calling for unity was read by Ar. Pacoy Aniag. A video with National President Rene Heray stating the same message was also posted on UAP Keeping you posted page several days after.

KYP Live: Member First with the Committee on NAW (National Architecture Week) and International Affairs Hosts: Ar. Anna Gonzalez, Ar Vahn Pineda (UAP Barasoain) Guests: Ar. Roselle V. Santos, uap Ar. Danny Tan Ko, fuap, aa, piep

Written by: Ar. Vahn Pineda

In line with the National Architecture Week (NAW) celebration, the UAP Comms had the NAW Committee Chairperson, Ar. Roselle V. Santos, for the 5th episode of KYP Live, to share what is in store for all the architects.

Ar. Roselle gladly shared the history of NAW and why we celebrate it. It started in 1971 when the former President Ferdinand E. Marcos promulgated the second week of December as the Nationwide Architecture Week. The celebration grew bigger as many years went by. This year's “N(e)AW Normal” theme was brought about by the pandemic fitting to this year’s virtual celebration.

Ar. Roselle shared the activities for the entire week thru a video presentation. Activities for the celebration include several CPD seminars with various topics, Balangkasan, culmination event, including UAPSA and UAPGA events. Details are posted on the Facebook page of the UAP National Architecture Week.

The second part of the episode had Ar. Danny Tan Ko, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, to discuss what the committee is about. According to Ar. Danny, the committee coordinates with countries abroad on various matters concerning the practice of architecture since lots of architects are practicing or working in different countries outside of the Philippines.

He also discussed the new branding of architects working abroad from being “Overseas Filipino workers” to “Global Filipino Architects.” According to him, the Committee did the rebranding to uplift the image of those professionals abroad and elevate the practice into the global scene.

The Committee on International affairs has also launched a program called “BEACON SEAL OF EXCELLENCE AWARD” that aims to provide recognition or award to local and international Filipino Architects. Any architect who is a winner of any international design competition or architects with exemplary work in the Architecture field may receive this award. The program has launched a logo design contest which several architects have joined. Entries for the logo design were posted on the Facebook page of the Committee and winners will be awarded on the culmination event of the National Architecture Week celebration.

KYP LIVE: Member First with Architects Abroad on the Universal Healthcare Law Hosts: Ar. Jose Tan, Ar. JP Espino (with off-screen assistance from Ar. Anna Gonzalez of UAP Barasoain) Guest: Ar. Christian Vasquez (UAP Dubai), Ar. Justo Santos (UAP Malaysia) and Ar. Joan Tabinas (UAP Singapore)

Written by: Ar. Vahn Pineda

The passage of the Universal Healthcare Law that automatically enrols all Filipino citizens in the National Health Insurance Program of the government raised concerns to our Architects working abroad. Upon the recommendation of SG Joey V. Manalad, the 6th episode of KYP Live had the Global Filipino Architects, Ar. Christian Vasquez, Ar. Justo Santos, and Ar. Joan De Leon Tabinas to share their thoughts on the Universal Healthcare Law.

But with the good intention of the law, it needs a budget to be implemented and one of the sources of this budget is the premium contribution of direct contributory members to which the Global Filipino Architects are a part. In theory according to Ar. Justo, collectively, the overseas Filipino workers would be shouldering almost 50% of the budget for the Universal Healthcare Law. It would mean that the PhilHealth contributions of OFW’s/ Global Filipino Architects would increase significantly. The new contribution would increase by .5% every year until it reaches 5% contribution by 2025 on the current salary (from Php 10,000- Php 60,000). According to Ar. Joan, this would only be redundant to some, like in her case because her medical expenses are already covered by the company she is working for. She is also covered by the health insurance of the country where she’s based. To Ar. Christian, the contribution would be just insufficient that he would rather invest the money that he would pay to something else.

Trust is also an issue, according to the guests. They would rather have the current issue addressed first (billions of PhilHealth budget allegedly missing) before the agency would ask for a higher contribution. There should have been consultation with the people working abroad personally when the law is being drafted, according to Ar. Christian, so their situation and every detail of their lives abroad can be seen holistically. For Ar. Joan and Ar. Justo, they do not even use their PhilHealth card since they are not even in the Philippines.

Lasty, Ar Christian mentioned the steps their group has been doing in support to the stand of the Global Filipino Architect.

Vahn Pineda

The December 14 episode of the Kumusta Ka Arkitek had 3 Chapters from District B1- UAP Manila Atelier, UAP Manila-Sta Mesa, and UAP Singapore to talk about the best practices in their chapters.

The show started with UAP Manila Sta Mesa with Ar Chandru Llana and Ar Paul Ong. According to Ar Chandur the officers on their chapter are on a hold-over position from the last fiscal year. One of the things they are doing right now, which was a continuation of their programs last year, is a holistic development for members: sound mind, healthy body, and connected to the Creators Spirit. They had talks reading mental health and self-defense introduction. Ar Chandru also mentioned that they plan to provide training for life-saving. Ar Paul Ong, director for Professional practice, discussed they are combining professional practice and community engagement. They aim to reach out to the community esp to the young people and introduce and bring awareness about Architecture. When asked what the chapter wants to ask National officers, Ar Chandru mentioned that they appreciate what the national officers are doing. He also suggested having a better system for the IAPOA payment and issuance of certificates

The second portion of the episode was joined by Ar James Jao (chapter president) and Ar Love De Leon (VP for Operations) from UAP Manila Atelier. According to Ar James, their vision is their members are creators of future proof designs. One of the recent programs that the chapter did was a CSR project to help those people that were affected by the recent Typhoon Rolly. When asked if they have recommendations and suggestions to the National Officers: Ar James mentioned that the framework for District directors should be revisited. He finds this position a bit redundant, in effect that it competes with the events of the chapter resulting in sponsor fatigue.

The third and final interview for the episode was with the UAP Singapore represented by their Chapter President Ar Mark Lester Valignota and Ar Jenn Almazon. According to Ar Lester the discipline of the Filipino Architects working, a collective team effort that makes the whole. One of the major activities they do is the “ART EXPO” in collaboration with several groups such as BCI Asia and Build Tech Asia.
