It seamlessly blends art, history and culture into a tantalizing mosaic. At times it can be mysterious and maddening, but I have always found it utterly mesmerizing. There is an endless amount of incredible food that can please any type of palate. The extraor- dinary number of bars that stay open to the early hours have sealed Montreal’s reputation as quite the party town. Is it any wonder I wanted to share this magical place with the readers of Concrete Wave? The Big O was dug up and moved 80 meters to accommodate the new stadium. Photo: Michael Brooke But what about the longboard scene, you wonder? I am pleased to report that not only is there a thriving longboard scene in Montreal, but it is one that is incredibly hospitable to visitors. You just have to expe- rience it – to jump in and grab hold of the “joie de vivre” that oozes from this city and its inhabitants. My first visit to Montreal was in 1978 on a school trip. While it was enjoyable, it wasn’t until 1983 that I truly fell in love with the city. Montreal is only a five- hour drive from Toronto and a four-hour drive from New York City, but as you will soon discover, it feels like it’s in its own unique world. Numerous people have helped nurture the long- board scene in Montreal.

Below you will find a number of terms/phrases used in skiing and snowboarding to refer to products, clothing, and the sports of skiing and snowboarding in general. We have provided a brief definition to help clear up any confusion or questions you may have on these terms/phrases. A ABS Sidewall: Industry term for a type of edge construction on skis and snowboards using high quality ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic. All-Mountain Ski: A large percentage of Alpine skis fall into this category. All-Mountain skis are designed to perform in all types of snow conditions and at most speeds. Other names for this style of ski include Mid- Fat skis, All-Purpose skis, and the One-ski Quiver. Alpine Skiing: Downhill skiing, as opposed to Nordic Skiing. Après-Ski: The day’s over – time for drinks and swapping war stories from the slopes. Audio Helmet: A helmet wired with speakers that allows you to listen to music while skiing. Avalanche Beacon: A safety device worn by skiers, snowboarders, and others in case an avalanche traps them. The beacon transmits a signal (typically at the international standard frequency of 457khz) that rescuers can use to locate a buried person.

TÍTULO I DA ENTIDADE E SEUS FINS CAPÍTULO I DA ENTIDADE Art. 1º - O Conselho Federal de Educação Física – CONFEF, pessoa jurídica de direito público interno sem fins lucrativos com sede e Foro na cidade do Rio de Janeiro/RJ e abrangência em todo o Território Nacional, e os Conselhos Regionais de Educação Física – CREFs, com sede e Foro na Capital de um dos Estados por ele abrangidos ou no Distrito Federal, têm natureza autárquica corporativa especial, têm natureza autárquica corporativa especial, criados pela Lei Federal nº. 9.696, de 1º de setembro de 1998, publicada no Diário Oficial da União em 02 de setembro de 1998, entidade hibrida sui generis, com personalidade jurídica e autonomia administrativa, financeira e patrimonial, organizadas de forma federativa como Sistema CONFEF/CREFs. § 1º - O Sistema CONFEF/CREFs desempenha serviço público independente, enquadrando-se como categoria singular no elenco das personalidades jurídicas existentes no direito pátrio. § 2º - o Sistema CONFEF/CREFs tem o poder delegado pela União para normatizar, orientar, disciplinar, habilitar e fiscalizar o exercício das atividades privativas dos Profissionais de Educação Física e das pessoas jurídicas, cuja finalidade básica seja a prestação de serviços nas áreas das atividades físicas, desportivas e similares. § 3º - O Sistema CONFEF/CREFs registra os Profissionais de Educação Física e as pessoas jurídicas prestadoras de serviços na área da atividade física e desportivas e similares.

ADAPTIVE ACTION SPORTS – Located on the north side of Copper One, Adaptive Action Sports was founded by Daniel Gale and Amy Purdy Gale. It is the first adaptive snowboard and skateboard specific nonprofit organization. Adaptive Action Sports creates skateboard, snowboard and other action sport camps, events and programs for youth, young adults and wounded veterans living with permanent physical disabilities, traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder. AEDs – Automatic External Defibrillators are located by Jack’s at top of escalators, West Village, Copper - Station, EDGE, Solitude, Athletic Club, PHQ, Timberline Patrol, Motel Six, the Copper Fire Department and the Copper security vehicle. ALL ACCESS PASS – A new season pass this year that unlimited access to Copper Mountain and Woodward. ALLIROO ALLEY - A fun area for kids of all ages in the trees with pictures of animal critters. Located beneath the American Flyer lift near the top. ALPINE LIFT – Copper’s easternmost front side lift that opened in 1979. Originally lifts were lettered and trails were numbered. Alpine was originally “A” lift. ALPINE LOT – Free parking lot near the Copper Mountain entrance on route 91 that has free bus service to Ten Mile Circle, East Village and West Village.
