Many dynamic Close in Prayer Today'sleaders—some of whom are theMessage: most gifted leaders in Christianity—are focusingDEBORAH enormous efforts in producing results for churches throughout our nation. Billions of dollars are focused on developing churches. Highly talented young leaders are investing extraordinary energies in planting churches that will attract people to their program offerings. A core value is to never answer a question unless you know the answer. A perfectly acceptable answer is, “I don’t disciples are making disciples, they are not disciples. Can you see that multiplication is built into the Great Commission? know, but let’s both look into this and see what we find out for next time.” You’ve heard it said that if you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting. I heard it this 6. We do this in hopes that some lost people might wander into one of our services, and if they2 do, theyQuestions: might hear the Gospel, and if they do they might be convicted of their sin, and if they are, they might place their faith in Christ. This seems to me to be an incredibly inefficient system for reaching lost people! What if instead of hoping they will come into the church on a weekend, we trained and challenged every Christian to be equipped to share Jesus with the lost people in their lives? Instead of having only one disciple-maker (the speakerWhat on the stage), did do to be the Lord's Hero? everyone was equipped and challenged to make disciples of everyone in their lives that are far from God. Let’s take the average large church … Imagine that this church has 2,000 people attend their weekend services. How ANNOUNCEMENTS many lost people do you believe are in attendance on a typical weekend? Would you think 200, 100, 50? I personally believe AND… YOUTH TODAY 6-8PM: The Youth will meet at the Delaware Township Community Center for it would be closer to 50 than 200. Now don’t get me wrong. It’s BRIDGES: CHRISTIANS CONNECTING WITH MUSLIMS TONIGHT 6-8PM: This is a fantastic course. a lost cause!” To which I answer with what Ying Kai told me, “Train everyone and the doers quickly emerge.” So pastor, what It’s still not too late to join us tonight (also Jan 31; Feb 14 & 21) at Delaware Township Community Center. Then the people of Israel cried out to the LORD for help.

The last verse of Judges sums it up Judges 21:25 (NLT) In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

King Jabin, Canaanite king in Hazor

Harosheth Ha-Goyim = "Blacksmith of the Gentiles"

Deborah distinguishes herself as the most godly of all the judges (ESVSB) Judges 4:4–5 (NLT) Deborah, the wife of Lappidoth, was a prophet who was judging Israel at that time. 5 She would sit under the Palm of Deborah, between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites would go to her for judgment.

"Deborah: Far away in Mount Ephraim God raised up a woman, on whom He had poured the spirit of prophecy. It is the first time in history that we read of the prophetic gift. The sacred text conveys, that she exercised it in strict accordance with the Divine law, for it is significantly added in connection with it, that “she judged Israel at that time.” Deborah, ‘the bee,’ is described as a 'burning woman.' " –Alfred Edersheim

Deborah declares war on Sisera Judges 4:6–9 (NLT) One day she sent for Barak son of Abinoam, who lived in Kedesh in the land of Naphtali. She said to him, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, commands you: Call out 10,000 warriors from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun at Mount Tabor. 7 And I will call out Sisera, commander of Jabin’s army, along with his chariots and warriors, to the Kishon River. There I will give you victory over him.” 8 Barak told her, “I will go, but only if you go with me.” 9 “Very well,” she replied, “I will go with you. But you will receive no honor in this venture, for the LORD’s victory over Sisera will be at the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.

The Battle Begins Judges 4:14–16 (NLT) Then Deborah said to Barak, “Get ready! This is the day the LORD will give you victory over Sisera, for the LORD is marching ahead of you.” So Barak led his 10,000 warriors down the slopes of Mount Tabor into battle. 15 When Barak attacked, the LORD threw Sisera and all his chariots and warriors into a panic. Sisera leaped down from his chariot and escaped on foot. 16 Then Barak chased the chariots and the enemy army all the way to Harosheth-haggoyim, killing all of Sisera’s warriors. Not a single one was left alive.

Sisera seeks refuge in 's tent Judges 4:17–21 (NLT) Meanwhile, Sisera ran to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, because Heber’s family was on friendly terms with King Jabin of Hazor. 18 Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Come into my tent, sir. Come in. Don’t be afraid.” So he went into her tent, and she covered him with a blanket. 19 “Please give me some water,” he said. “I’m thirsty.” So she gave him some milk from a leather bag and covered him again. 20 “Stand at the door of the tent,” he told her. “If anybody comes and asks you if there is anyone here, say no.” 21 But when Sisera fell asleep from exhaustion, Jael quietly crept up to him with a hammer and tent peg in her hand. Then she drove the tent peg through his temple and into the ground, and so he died.

The Lord Gives Victory Judges 4:22–24 (NLT) When Barak came looking for Sisera, Jael went out to meet him. She said, “Come, and I will show you the man you are looking for.” So he followed her into the tent and found Sisera lying there dead, with the tent peg through his temple. 23 So on that day Israel saw God defeat Jabin, the Canaanite king. 24 And from that time on Israel became stronger and stronger against King Jabin until they finally destroyed him.

How God does the miraculous: "Bread and meat would be given [to the children of Israel], both directly sent from God, yet both so given that, while unbelief was inexcusable, it should still be possible." –Edersheim

Deborah praised the Lord for the victory (The Song of Deborah) Judges 5 (NLT) 2 “Israel’s leaders took charge, and the people gladly followed. Praise the LORD! 3 “Listen, you kings! Pay attention, you mighty rulers! For I will sing to the LORD. I will make music to the LORD, the God of Israel…9 My heart is with the commanders of Israel, with those who volunteered for war. Praise the LORD! …12 “Wake up, Deborah, wake up! Wake up, wake up, and sing a song! Arise, Barak! Lead your captives away, son of Abinoam! 13 “Down from Tabor marched the few against the nobles. The people of the LORD marched down against mighty warriors…24 “Most blessed among women is Jael…May she be blessed above all women who live in tents. 25 Sisera asked for water, and she gave him milk. In a bowl fit for nobles, she brought him yogurt. 26 Then with her left hand she reached for a tent peg, and with her right hand for the workman’s hammer. She struck Sisera with the hammer, crushing his head. With a shattering blow, she pierced his temples…31 “LORD, may all your enemies die like Sisera! But may those who love you rise like the sun in all its power!”

Israel is Delivered v. 31b Then there was peace in the land for forty years.

Deborah had: □ God's Word (Pentateuch & + she was a prophet) □ Wisdom (application of God's word to life situations) □ Decisiveness (never wavering) □ Understanding of her calling and purpose □ Courage

Interesting Note: Deborah, the bee, the source of Honey Jael, Mountain Goat, the source of Milk

Israel a land flowing with milk and honey Exodus 3:8 (NLT) So I have come down to rescue them…and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey—the land where the Canaanites…now live.

Two women illustrated this truth!

So what?

God's Word Psalm 119:105 (NLT) Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

Wisdom (is like honey) Proverbs 24:13–14 (NLT) My child, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to the taste. 14 In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul.

Decisiveness 1 Kings 18:21 (NLT) Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!”

James 1:6 (NLT) But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

Hebrews 10:23 (NIV84) Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

God's Purpose 1 Peter 2:9b (NLT) you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Courage Psalm 27:1 (NLT) The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?

Courage = the ability to do something that frightens you; strength in the face of pain or grief.

Praising the Lord for Success 1 Corinthians 15:57 (NIV84) But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
