The last comprehensive list (Barrio-Amorós 2009c) included a total of 333 species, while the current catalogue lists 387 species (370 anurans, 10 caecilians, and seven salamanders), including 28 species not yet described or properly identified. Fifty species and four genera are added to the previous list, 25 species are deleted, and 47 experienced nomenclatural changes. -

In this study we analyze the diet of a population of Dendropsophus branneri from a cocoa plantation in southern Bahia, Brazil. Frogs were captured monthly from August 2010 to July 2011. Stomach contents were retrieved through stomach-flushing and later identified to order level. Our results show that D. branneri feeds mainly on arthropds, such as Diptera, larval Lepidoptera and Araneae. Based on the identified food items and the low number of prey per stomach we conclude that the studied population of D. branneri uses a “sit and wait” strategy. We further conclude that stomach flushing can be successfully applied to frogs from a size of 14.4mm. Diet Composition of Lysapsus Bolivianus Gallardo, 1961 (Anura, Hylidae) of the Curiaú Environmental Protection Area in the Amazonas River Estuary
Herpetology Notes, volume 13: 113-123 (2020) (published online on 11 February 2020) Diet composition of Lysapsus bolivianus Gallardo, 1961 (Anura, Hylidae) of the Curiaú Environmental Protection Area in the Amazonas river estuary Mayara F. M. Furtado1 and Carlos E. Costa-Campos1,* Abstract. Information on a species’ diet is important to determine habitat conditions and resources and to assess the effect of preys on the species distribution. The present study aimed describing the diet of Lysapsus bolivianus in the floodplain of the Curiaú Environmental Protection Area. Individuals of L. bolivianus were collected by visual search in the floodplain of the Curiaú River. A total of 60 specimens of L. bolivianus were euthanized with 2% lidocaine, weighed, and their stomachs were removed for diet analysis. A total of 3.020 prey items were recorded in the diet. The most representative preys were: Diptera (36.21%), Collembola (16.61%), and Hemiptera (8.31%), representing 73.20% of the total consumed prey. Based on the Index of Relative Importance for males, females, and juveniles, the most important items in the diet were Diptera and Collembola. The richness of preys recorded in the diet of L. bolivianus in the dry season was lower than that of the rainy season. Regarding prey abundance and richness, L. bolivianus can be considered a generalist species and a passive forager, with a diet dependent on the availability of preys in the environment. Keywords. DRAGO & LÍA I. LUNASCHI Abstract: Cosmocercoides latrans n. sp. (Cosmocercidae) from the small intestine of 92 (2) Leptodactylus latrans (Anura: Leptodactylidae) from Northeastern Province of Buenos 92(2) Aires, Argentina is described. The new species can be distinguished from their congeners by a combination of the characters, among which stands out the number of rosette papillae, the lack of gubernaculum and the presence of lateral alae in both sexes. There are over 20 species in the genus Cosmocercoides, and Cosmocercoides latrans n. sp. represents the third species from the Neotropical realm and the second for Argentina. Additionally, seven previously known taxa are reported; Pseudoacanthocephalus cf. lutzi, Catadiscus uruguayensis, Rauschiella palmipedis, Aplectana hylambatis, Cosmocerca parva, Schrankiana sp. and Rhabdias elegans; providing literature records and information on distribution and host-parasite relationships. Despite their wide distribution in the Amazon and Paraná River basins, they had never been recorded along the margins of the more than 340 km of the Paraná River in the provinces of Misiones, Itapúa, and Alto Paraná in Argentina and Paraguay. Comparisons of historical and recent satellite images and analyses of the Paraná River structure indicate that the lake formed after the construction of the Yacyretá Dam (140,000-160,000 ha), which has made novel lentic and semi-lentic environments in the tributary streams identified as large inlets, bays, and lagoons. These transformations favored permanent settlement of aquatic macrophytes, mainly Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and floating ferns (Salvinia sp.), which are the characteristic habitat of L. limellum and B. punctata. Because of these changes, we conducted surveys by boat and from shore to determine whether these frog species colonized the novel environments.
