This paper reveals the precious contribution of Kolë Idromeno, as a versatile artist, whose work and activity constitutes a great heritage for the Albanian National Culture. Among his donated skills in art, what mostly attracts is the ensemble of the neoclassical buildings he designed during the first decades of the last century. His architectural projects are defined as second category monuments and ‗exhibited‘ along the museum streets protected by law. -

JEWISH CITIZENS OF SOCIALIST YUGOSLAVIA: POLITICS OF JEWISH IDENTITY IN A SOCIALIST STATE, 1944-1974 by Emil Kerenji A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (History) in The University of Michigan 2008 Doctoral Committee: Professor Todd M. Endelman, Co-Chair Professor John V. Fine, Jr., Co-Chair Professor Zvi Y. Gitelman Professor Geoffrey H. Eley Associate Professor Brian A. Porter-Szűcs © Emil Kerenji 2008 Acknowledgments I would like to thank all those who supported me in a number of different and creative ways in the long and uncertain process of researching and writing a doctoral dissertation. First of all, I would like to thank John Fine and Todd Endelman, because of whom I came to Michigan in the first place. I thank them for their guidance and friendship. Geoff Eley, Zvi Gitelman, and Brian Porter have challenged me, each in their own ways, to push my thinking in different directions. My intellectual and academic development is equally indebted to my fellow Ph.D. students and friends I made during my life in Ann Arbor. Edin Hajdarpašić, Bhavani Raman, Olivera Jokić, Chandra Bhimull, Tijana Krstić, Natalie Rothman, Lenny Ureña, Marie Cruz, Juan Hernandez, Nita Luci, Ema Grama, Lisa Nichols, Ania Cichopek, Mary O’Reilly, Yasmeen Hanoosh, Frank Cody, Ed Murphy, Anna Mirkova are among them, not in any particular order. Doing research in the Balkans is sometimes a challenge, and many people helped me navigate the process creatively. At the Jewish Historical Museum in Belgrade, I would like to thank Milica Mihailović, Vojislava Radovanović, and Branka Džidić. -

At the Ambassadors Conference in London, Austro-Hungary argued that the involvement of Shkodra City was essential to the economy of the new Albanian state. Meanwhile Russia did not open the way for solving the Shkodra problem, Russian diplomats thought how to satisfy Serbia's ambitions in Northeast Albania, respectively in Kosovo Beyond those considerations of a political character, on 8 October 1912, was the youngest member of the Balkan Alliance, the Shkodra northern neighbor, Montenegro, that rushed to launch military actions, thus opening the first campaign of the First Balkan War. The Montenegrin military assault, as its main strategic objective in this war, was precisely the occupation and annexation of the historic city of Shkodra, a city with a big economic and cultural importance for the Albanian people and territory. -

August 2020 e-ISSN: 1857-8187 p-ISSN: 1857-8179 Reserch Article Linguistics ANTHROPONYMY IN MIRDITA. HISTORY OF ANTHROPONYMY IN Keywords: toponyms, anthroponies, MIRDITA ethnonyms, hydronyms, oikonims. Arta Malshi University of Tirana. Albania. Abstract Mirdita, one of the most unified, most identical provinces of the Albanian lands, with a much defined status, in customs and traditions, in clothing and in popular law, with a special provincial cohesion, a name of pride for its inhabitants, began to appear as early as the Middle Ages, with different names, although it was the nucleus of medieval Dukagjini. In what is called Mirdita, in the broadest sense, in the Middle Ages there was an old local Arberian population and this has been proved by the numerous cemeteries, as common burials in one place, a place with agriculture, vineyards, trees, mills, which explains of a sedentary population and this is proved by the numerous churches and monasteries that have their roots in the Early Middle Ages and the body in the Middle Ages. Even today, migratory movements for different reasons are indicative that the people of Mirdita, wherever they are, preserve the memory of their province and consciously present themselves: "I came from Mirdita!”. Introduction Mirdita1, one of the most unified, most identical provinces of the Albanian lands, with a much defined status, in customs and traditions, in clothing and in popular law, with a special provincial cohesion, a name of pride for its inhabitants, began to appear as early as the Middle Ages, with different names, although it was the nucleus of medieval Dukagjini. -
Politicka Misao 5 2014.Indd
Croatian Political Science Review, Vol. 51, No. 5, 2014, pp. 157-173 157 Review article Received: 15 September 2014 When Skanderbeg Meets Clinton: Cultural Landscape and Commemorative Strategies in Postwar Kosovo DENIS S. ERMOLIN Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) Russian Academy of Sciences Summary The paper is devoted to studying current strategies in the transformation of cultural landscape in postwar Kosovo. I regard cultural landscape, i.e. a piece of Earth’s surface deliberately shaped by man, as an extension of the so-called socially constructed reality (Berger and Luckmann, 1966). In some cases this symbolization is a strategic part of a nation-building project, or just a way to declare one’s own presence, identity, or affiliation. The creation of new heroes is one of the initial steps within the strategies of a nation-building process, as it forms an essential prerequisite for the feeling of a common and shared history. This article analyses the spectrum of personalities symbolically wel- comed in Kosovo since the 1990s. The Republic of Kosovo is de jure a multi- ethnic society consisting of Albanian, Serbian, and other communities, and is presented as such to the international community. However, the current strate- gies of symbolic nation-building deeply contradict the declared aspirations to build a common state and national identity among all of the peoples living in Kosovo. My aim is to negotiate the strategies of memorialization in postwar Kosovo with a focus on this balancing between civic (as desired) and ethnic (as de facto realized) models of nation-building. -
