Spc International Programs PORTUGAL 2022 ITINERARY (PLA4830 COMPARATIVE LEGAL STUDIES) Travel Dates: June 3-19, 2022 DAY 1 Travel and arrival in Lisbon 5:40 a.m. - Arrive in Lisbon 5:45-6:30 - Customs a.m. (students contact families to ensure safe arrival) 7:30 a.m. - Transport from the airport 8:00 a.m. - Begin Bus Tour 9:00 a.m. - Breakfast 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. - Walking tour of Alfama District (This is a walking tour following breakfast of the oldest and most historic area of Lisbon) 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. - Lunch 2 p.m. - Drop off luggage at Apt. and grocery shop 3:30 p.m. - National Pantheon & Church of Sao Vicente of For a (This is a Church in the Alfama District that we may visit after lunch once we drop-off luggage and get students to the grocery store for supplies) 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. - Welcome Dinner 8: 30 p.m. - Walk back DAY 2 Travel day to Sintra 7 a.m. - Breakfast 8 a.m. - Bus to Sintra 9 a.m. - Arrive Sintra First Tour of Palacio Nacional de Sintra (This tour is via bus to a national icon of Portugal which is a Palace in Sintra approximately one hour from Lisbon.) Noon - Lunch (On your own) 1:00 p.m. - Second Tour – Castelo dos Mouros (Mid-evil castle of the Moors) (This castle is in the same area of Sintra and students will proceed to the Moors cancel after the Palace tour) 4:00 p.m. - Final Tour to Quinta da Regaleira (Also in the same area as the Palace and Castle, this is a private estate that is so interesting with an estate that winds through an acre of land and the oldest water pumping station in that area) 6:00 p.m. - Board bus to return to Lisbon 7:00 p.m. - Arrive back at Apt. There are two aspects of it, one is the museum. After the museum we would take a bus or subway to the area of the Aqueduct which is the oldest in the area. Until 1950’s it provided the water for all of Lisbon.) The city has almost 550 000 inhabitants, but in the metropolitan area you have 2,6 million people. In 1147, D. Afonso Henriques and the army of Crusades managed to win the city from the Mouros. The king of Portugal ordered the construction of the Castle of São Jorge. In the 15th century, Portugal ventured into the discoveries, giving beginning to the Renaissance. It was from the river Tagus that the Armies that would come to discover the world, making Portugal the richest country in Europe. Some monuments had been constructed to eternalize the Portuguese Discoveries, being the Torre de Belém (Tower of Belém) and Mosteiro de Jerónimos (Monastery of Jerónimos) the most emblematic ones. With the 1755 earthquake, the City of Lisbon was almost totally destroyed. Marquês de Pombal, the Prime-Minister of King D. José, reconstructed the city. Sintra Natioanal Palace The gothic styled Palácio Nacional de Sintra is situated in the heart of Sintra and was the most lived in royal residence, being continual used from the 15th century up until the fall of the monarchy in 1910. This is the palace that king Afonso VI (1650s) was imprisoned during his later life, as he was deemed, by his brother, too unstable to rule the country. The minimalistic gothic exterior is dominated by the two huge chimneys that rise out from the kitchens while the interior includes decoratively painted rooms that reflect the extensive history of the palace. The most famous of these rooms is the magpie room, which has paintings of magpies representing the gossiping and scheming of the queen’s ladies in-waiting. As the National Palace is in the centre of town it is usually combined with exploring the historic centre of Sintra with its numerous cafes, restaurants and shops.     16 LUÍS MIGUEL BRITO Intercultural interpretation discourses, techniques and strategies used by tour guides in the Coach Museum, Lisbon: Eight issues LUÍS MIGUEL BRITO Escola Superior de Hotelaria e Turismo do Estoril The Coach Museum in Lisbon houses one of the finest collections of coaches in the world. It is the second most visited museum in Portugal and it is often included in the Lisbon city tour. Tourist guides often perform visits to the museum. They are mediators between heritage and tourists, involving them not only in the collection but also in the life of the people who used the coaches. A guided tour to the museum can be either a nightmare or nice dream. It will be a nightmare if the guide conveys uninteresting information about the objects and vehicles exhibited, if s/he is centred on him/herself. But it can also be very lively and interesting if interpretation strategies are centred around the tourist and his/her culture. The aim of intercultural interpretation is to awaken different kinds of emotions in the tourist, from piety to amusement, using fantasy and reality. This paper discusses the different characteristics tourist guides’ interpretation assumes in Lisbon’s Coach Museum. The researcher heard the speech of fifty professional guides visiting the museum, during the months of September and October 2009. Data obtained were included in his PhD thesis. The anthropological technique applied is direct observation, defined as “direct involvement of the field researcher with the social group studied, within the parameters of the group standards” (Iturra, 1987: 149). The paper is divided into the following parts: introduction (including tourist information versus intercultural heritage interpretation, methodology, interpretation- eight issues, and final considerations.

This consciousness of the infinite and its analysis through the feeling of the sublime was the basis of all European Romanticism, as well as of the artistic currents that flowed from it. Although the theme of the sublime has been studied since Longinus, it was Hegel who extended the concept through the analysis of space and time in his The Philosophy of Nature, because nature as de-termination2 of the idea necessarily falls in space and time.3 Consequently, the artistic achievement of that era could only be a figurative representation of the sublime and the integration of all arts in a whole with the purpose of awakening the feeling of Gesamtkunstwerk.

(Johannes Beck, 22.04.2018) Seite 1 Corona-Vorschriften beim Besuch von Sehenswürdigkeiten Fast alle Museen und Sehenswürdigkeiten sind in Portugal wieder geöffnet. Es gilt in der Regel eine Maskenpflicht während des ganzen Besuchs so wie bei der Fahrt mit Bus und Bahn oder beim Einkauf in Supermärkten oder anderen Geschäften. In Portugal wird diese Maskenpflicht von fast allen Menschen akzeptiert und eingehalten. Außerdem ist die Höchstzahl der Besucher pro Sehenswürdigkeit limitiert und ein Mindestabstand zwischen den Menschen aus unterschiedlichen Haushalten von 2 Metern soll beachtet werden. Viele Museen haben außerdem ihre Cafetaria geschlossen. Häufig ist auch die Benutzung von Schließfächern nicht mehr möglich, so dass man große Rucksäcke und Taschen besser zu Hause lässt. Bargeldloses Bezahlen ist meist erwünscht und in Portugal mit EC-, Visa- oder Mastercard-Karten meist problemlos möglich.
