PORTUGAL 2022 ITINERARY (PLA4830 COMPARATIVE LEGAL STUDIES) Travel Dates: June 3-19, 2022 DAY 1 Travel and arrival in Lisbon 5:40 a.m. - Arrive in Lisbon 5:45-6:30 - Customs a.m. (students contact families to ensure safe arrival) 7:30 a.m. - Transport from the airport 8:00 a.m. - Begin Bus Tour 9:00 a.m. - Breakfast 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. - Walking tour of Alfama District (This is a walking tour following breakfast of the oldest and most historic area of Lisbon) 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. - Lunch 2 p.m. - Drop off luggage at Apt. and grocery shop 3:30 p.m. - National Pantheon & Church of Sao Vicente of For a (This is a Church in the Alfama District that we may visit after lunch once we drop-off luggage and get students to the grocery store for supplies) 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. - Welcome Dinner 8: 30 p.m. - Walk back DAY 2 Travel day to Sintra 7 a.m. - Breakfast 8 a.m. - Bus to Sintra 9 a.m. - Arrive Sintra First Tour of Palacio Nacional de Sintra (This tour is via bus to a national icon of Portugal which is a Palace in Sintra approximately one hour from Lisbon.) Noon - Lunch (On your own) 1:00 p.m. - Second Tour – Castelo dos Mouros (Mid-evil castle of the Moors) (This castle is in the same area of Sintra and students will proceed to the Moors cancel after the Palace tour) 4:00 p.m. - Final Tour to Quinta da Regaleira (Also in the same area as the Palace and Castle, this is a private estate that is so interesting with an estate that winds through an acre of land and the oldest water pumping station in that area) 6:00 p.m. - Board bus to return to Lisbon 7:00 p.m. - Arrive back at Apt. Dinner (on our own/group) and debrief DAY 3 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – • Class begins in Portugal Meeting and tour of U.S. Embassy (Take Metro to Embassy stop) • Introduction to U.S./Portugal relations,political climate and policy • Reflection Paper on U.S. Embassy tour and information 11:30-1:00 p.m. - Lunch (On your own) 1:00 p.m.- Class time (Guest lecturer) 3:30 p.m. - Gulbenkian Museum Tour 5:30 p.m. - Metro back to Apt. 7 p.m. - Dinner (on our own) and walking evening excursion DAY 4 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. • Meeting and FLAD to schedule guest lecturer • Portugal legal system overall and its history (System of Justice, branches of system, Courts and areas of Portuguese law and EU) 10:30 a.m.-Noon - Tour of Expo Area Noon – 1 p.m. - Lunch 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. - Class time Early evening - Dinner on own 7:00 p.m. - Meet for evening walking tour of Jardim do Passeio dos Herois do Mar & Telecabine Lisbon (North Station) for students interested skyride DAY 5 8:30 am - Police Justicia regarding criminal system and current issues Noon - Lunch 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. - Class time (Possibly at Nova Law School) 4:30 p.m. -6:30 p.m. – Explore time of the city with a friend 7 p.m. - Dinner Chiado Area and Birro Alto District 8:30 p.m. - Walking Chiado and Birro Alto DAY 6 8:30 am - Ministry of Justice meeting and tour of Clerk’s office regarding civil court including Portugal’s alternative dispute resolution and Peace Court Noon - Lunch 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. - Class time 3:30 p.m. - Board bus or trolley to Belem Tower Evening - Dinner along waterfront/cultural district DAY 7 9:00 a.m. - Tour and meeting at Intellectual Property Association Noon - Lunch 1 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. - Class time Evening - Planned dinner and cultural music event DAY 8 Saturday - 9:30 am - Day Trip to Obidos DAY 9 9:00 am. Explore city day with a friend DAY 10 8:30 a.m. - Business Lecture from City Government at City included topics economic, GATT, and Portuguese business climate Noon - Lunch 1 p.m.-3:00 p.m. - Class time 3:30 p.m. - Mae de Agua Lisbon Aqueduct and Water Museum guided tour (This a great tour. There are two aspects of it, one is the museum. After the museum we would take a bus or subway to the area of the Aqueduct which is the oldest in the area. Until 1950’s it provided the water for all of Lisbon.)
