Outdoor Activity Centre at Sørenga now open The Norwegian Trekking Association’s new recreation centre is located just ten minutes’ walk from Oslo Central Station. Friluftshuset, as it is called, is designed to be an inspiration and a meeting place for everyone who wants to enjoy the outdoors in and around Oslo, and offers kayaking classes, a bouldering room, and inspiration evenings with lectures and films. MAJOR EVENTS/FESTIVALS Oslo Microbrew Fest, Grünerløkka Brygghus, June 3 – 4 from 15.00 – 22.00 Grünerløkka Brygghus presents the first Oslo Mikrobryggfest, a festival dedicated to locally made, handcrafted beer. Some of Oslo’s finest craft breweries will pouring the good stuff, along with good food and funky tunes. Address: Thorvald Meyers gate 30 B How to get there: Bus 30 to Birkelunden Photo: brygghus.no Antique Car Show, Youngstorget, June 3 from 09.00 – 12-30, June 4 from 10.00 – 16.00 Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4, the Oslo’s Fire Museum will hold a veteran car show in celebration of Grønland Fire Station’s 100th anniversary, Oslo Fire Museum’s 30th anniversary, and the Oslo’s Ambulance Service 100th anniversary. June 3: 50 veteran fire engines from all over Norway will gather at Youngstorget from 09.00 - 12.30. June 4: Cars will gather at Youngstorget at 10.00, and drive in a parade to Oslo City Hall. Oslo’s Ambulance Service will be present at the City Hall Square with both veteran and new ambulances, and will be demonstrating rescue operations. Photo: visitoslo.com Musikkfest Oslo, June 4 from 12.00 Free music festival on the first Saturday in June, when summer is welcomed with almost 40 outdoor stages, hundreds of artists and a seething atmosphere all over town. National Music Day is an annual celebration of music, with bands and artists playing in parks and streets, places and squares, from the centre of Oslo up to Grünerløkka. All sorts of genres are represented, from rock, country and pop via electronica and jazz to world music, choirs and Norwegian folk music. CONCERTS Chris Brown, Oslo Spektrum, June 3 at 19.30 Chris Brown is embarking on a tour of Europe, and comes to pay his Oslo fans a visit on June 3. The “One Hell of a Nite” tour starts in Germany and will stop in 15 European cities. Chris Brown, a household name by now, has had a successful career with hits like “Loyal”, “Look at Me Now”, and “With You”. His latest album “Royalty” gave him his sixth number 1 on the Billboard R&B/hip-hop list. Click here for tickets. The concert at Rockefeller on Saturday will be one-of-a-kind, as the band will be recording a live album. Expect a show filled with special effects, and guest artists on stage. They have all sung leading roles in operas such as Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Cavalleria Rusticana, The Marriage of Figaro, La Traviata, La Bohème, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, The Flying Dutchman, West Side Story and Jesus Christ Superstar. But before he arrived up there he was known as one of the top comedians from South Africa, and he continues to tour around the world with his comedy shows. Every year a load of great Norwegian comedians are invited to perform short in English - with hilarious results! Don’t miss this great fun show! The Oslo Comedy Club was started by comedians Paul B. Edwards and Simon Emanuel, who began performing comedy in Oslo in early 2012 after spending years on the UK comedy circuit and performing internationally on three different continents. Nik Coppin will be headlining the show on Saturday. This truly international artist spends months every year playing at festivals all over the world, spending the rest of his time wowing audiences on the UK comedy circuit and all over Europe. He will be joined by Ignacio Lopez, the only half Welsh, half Spanish comedian in the world. Doors open at 19.30 and the show will start at 20.30. Click here for more information.
