Thus, breeding sites variability and how such variability influences anuran diversity is important. Here, we examine which characteristics at breeding sites are most influential on anuran diversity in grasslands associated with Araucaria forest, southern Brazil, especially in places at risk due to anthropic activities. We evaluate the associations between habitat heterogeneity and anuran species diversity in nine body of water from September 2008 to March 2010, in 12 field campaigns in which 16 species of anurans were found. Of the seven habitat descriptors we examined, water depth, pond surface area and distance to the nearest forest fragment explained 81% of total species diversity. -

NSW Native Animal Keepers' Species List 2014
NSW Native Animal Keepers’ Species List 2014 The NSW Native Animal Keepers’ Species List 2014 (also available at www.environment.nsw.gov.au) contains the names of all species that may be kept under licence. If the animal species you want to keep isn’t listed, you generally cannot keep it, although the Department might consider requests to keep unlisted species of reptile, bird or amphibian. If you are applying for a licence for an unlisted species, you will need to supply details of the species and numbers you are proposing to keep, the legal availability of the species and its husbandry requirements in captivity. A new species list is produced by the Department each year. You can only hold an animal that is applicable to class as listed in the current year’s species list. Some animals are listed as exempt and a licence is not required to hold or trade those species (see exempt species list at the back of this document). Some hybridised animals are recorded in this list. The Department does not support native animal keepers who breed between animals of different species. Regulations prohibit the breeding of native waterfowl with domestic waterfowl. Your licence must be endorsed with the class under which the species is applicable. Holding requirements for venomous reptiles must be in accordance with the requirements contained in the class criteria for advanced reptile venomous category 1,2 or 3 as contained in the “Application for an Advanced Class- Native Animal Keepers’ Licence.” If you acquire or dispose of a native species of Cockatoo listed as applicable to class B1, or any species of animal listed under A2,B2,B3,R2,R3,R4 or R5 you must notify the Director General by email or in writing of the details of the transaction within fourteen days of the transaction taking place. -

During the reproductive period, many species exhibit gregarious behaviour, becoming con- centrated potential prey for both invertebrate and verte- brate predators (Duellman & Trueb 1994, Toledo 2005). Hypsiboas semilineatus (Spix, 1824) is a medium-sized hylid frog belonging to the H. semilineatus group (Faivo- vich et al. 2005). This species inhabits the Atlantic rain- forest on the coast of Brazil, occurring from the state of Pernam buco to the state of Santa Catarina (Heursel & Haddad 2002, Frost 2011) where it is frequently associ- ated with permanent water bodies in forest areas. Dendro psophus elegans (Wied-Neuwied, 1824) is a small hylid frog belonging to the Dendropsophus leucophyllatus group (Faivovich et al. 2005). Copeia 2012, No. 3, 554–569 Taxonomic Revision of the Scinax alter Species Complex (Anura: Hylidae) Ivan Nunes1, Axel Kwet2, and Jose´ P. Pombal, Jr.1 Scinax alter, a taxon belonging to the S. ruber clade, has been previously suggested to represent a species complex. We analyzed variation among populations of Scinax alter using advertisement calls, dorsal color pattern, and external morphology. We identified three diagnosable groups distributed throughout the Atlantic Forest of eastern Brazil, which differ mainly in the advertisement call, dorsal drawing pattern, snout–vent length, and presence of tubercles on tarsus. Scinax alter was restricted to populations from south of Bahia State to Rio de Janeiro State, and two new species were related to the southern populations: Scinax imbegue, from Parque das Nascentes, Municipality of Blumenau (276039S, 496059W, 412 m a.s.l.), Santa Catarina State, Brazil, and Scinax tymbamirim, from Co´ rrego Grande (276359S, 486319W, at sea level), Municipality of Floriano´ polis, Santa Catarina State, Brazil.
