Although the list of stakeholders provided in this report is by no means exhaustive, the study presented here provides relevant information on the most important industrial stakeholders (SMEs, or large industries) that are performing international research, innovation and business activities across the REE supply chain and more specifically in the field of recovery of REE. The position of each industrial stakeholder in the REE supply chain is identified, and concise information about their activities, potential interests and linkages to REE processes, or recovery of REE is also provided. Moreover, this report provides information on industrial stakeholders who are connected to applications that are heavily dependent on REE, such as: 1. Hard disk drives 2. Automotive applications 3. Motors in industrial applications 4. Loudspeakers 5. Air conditioning compressors 6. Magnetic separators 7. Mixed electronics 8. Electric bicycles 9. Wind turbines Additionally, the list of the major European research and academic institutions working on the topic of recovery of REE is presented, and their European research projects or patents are concisely presented and can be accessed directly from the links provided in this document. The most influencial innovators in Europe in the field of REE are identified, and their contact list is provided. Also a contact list encompassing the innovators who 1 have participated in the seven framework funding programme (FP7) of the european union is provided. In summary, this report provides the reader with a helicopter view on the most relevant industrial and academic stakeholders related to the field of REE and more specifically to the recovery of REE for the purpose of: Finding potential partners for business collaborations and/or development of innovative projects Identifying interesting innovations to be considered for potantial adoption and use in innovation plans such as novel processes (open innovation) Spotting innovation trends, incumbent or dis-investing players and competitors Development of exploitation strategies for innovations

  • The Reason Given for the UK's Decision to Float Sterling Was the Weight of International Short-Term Capital
    - Issue No. 181 No. 190, July 6, 1972 The Pound Afloat: The reason given for the U.K.'s decision to float sterling was the weight of international short-term capital movements which, despite concerted intervention from the Bank of England and European central banks, had necessitated massive sup port operations. The U.K. is anxious that the rate should quickly o.s move to a "realistic" level, at or around the old parity of %2. 40 - r,/, .• representing an effective 8% devaluation against the dollar. A w formal devaluation coupled with a wage freeze was urged by the :,I' Bank of England, but this would be politically embarrassing in the }t!IJ light of the U.K. Chancellor's repeated statements that the pound was "not at an unrealistic rate." The decision to float has been taken in spite of a danger that this may provoke an international or European monetary crisis. European markets tend to consider sterling as the dollar's first line of defense and, although the U.S. Treasury reaffirmed the Smithsonian Agreement, there are fears throughout Europe that pressure on the U.S. currency could disrupt the exchange rate re lationship established last December. On the Continent, the Dutch and Belgians have put forward a scheme for a joint float of Common Market currencies against the dollar. It will not easily be implemented, since speculation in the ex change markets has pushed the various EEC countries in different directions. The Germans have been under pressure to revalue, the Italians to devalue. Total opposition to a Community float is ex pected from France (this would sever the ties between the franc and gold), and the French also are adamant that Britain should re affirm its allegiance to the European monetary agreement and return to a fixed parity.
