The bobblehead craze is something that has swept through the United States over the last couple of decades, and pertains in particular to revering our favorite athletes – after all, they don’t make bobbleheads for just anyone! The daunting criteria required for an athlete to have a bobblehead made of him/her has held true in Condor- stown throughout the years. This is evidenced by the select few Condors who have had the fortune to have themselves miniaturized in the form of a bobblehead – Jamie Cooke, Paul Rosebush, Paul Willett, Kevin St. Pierre, Jason Ralph, Quinn Fair, Connor James, Kevin St. Jacques, Todd Griffi th, Colonel Claw’d, Yutaka Fukufuji and now 2009 ECHL All-Star Mark Derlago. Being the most recent to join this prestigious list, Nightly Notes caught up with Derlago to get his thoughts on the matter… Nightly Notes: “Bobblehead dolls continue to grow increasingly popular and are defi nitely one of the most looked-forward-to promotions around the sports world and in Condorstown more specifi cally, how does it feel to have one made of yourself?” Mark Derlago: “It’s defi nitely cool to have a bobblehead of myself. I think it’s pretty funny. Everyone back home thinks it’s funny that I have a bobblehead too – they all want one.” NN: “How close do you think the resemblance is between you and your bobblehead?” Derlago: “Well, guys on the team all joke around and say that it looks like an old Luke Perry (the actor from Beverly Hills 90210) bobblehead that had its hair painted red, but I think it looks pretty good. I like the goatee.” NN: “One of your bobbleheads hopped out of its box and made a video on Condors.TV. Have you seen it?” Derlago: “I’ve watched the video, but I didn’t have speakers hooked up to the computer, so I’m going to have to watch it again. Everyone tells me that it’s really funny – my dad really got a kick out of it.” To view the video of the talking bobblehead, visit www.condors.tv. Nightly Notes also caught up with the video’s mastermind, Condors Director of Marketing Scott Frasnelly, to fi nd out exactly how it all came to be… Frasnelly: “We had one of the bobbleheads around to check it out and see how it looked, and then started testing out the camera as well. Before we knew it, the bobblehead was talking into the camera, so naturally we started asking it some questions. We thought it was pretty amazing, so we posted it on Condors.TV to share with the world. It was really insistent on me looking into its eyes for some reason...” While you cherish your Mark Derlago Bobblehead, start getting ready for the next Condors Bobblehead Giveaway, coming up on Friday, March 20, and be sure to check Bakersfi eldcondors.com in the coming weeks to fi nd out who will be the next lucky Condor to be immortalized in such a unique, and always agreeable, manner. • Game Notes – April 15, 2021 Game #9 Vancouver Giants Vs Victoria Royals
GAME NOTES – APRIL 15, 2021 GAME #9 VANCOUVER GIANTS VS VICTORIA ROYALS THE STORY SO FAR – Heading into tonight’s game the Vancouver Giants are 5-3 and are ranked second in the B.C. Division standings. After an opening night loss to Kamloops on March 26th the Giants responded with five consecutive victories (one each against Kamloops, Kelowna, Prince George and two against Victoria). On Saturday April 10th that streak came to an end after a 6-3 loss to Prince George. Two nights later the Giants suffered a 4-1 loss to the same Cougars, and are now looking to halt a two-game losing streak when they take the ice tonight against Victoria. THE MATCHUP – Tonight marks the third of six meetings on the season between the Vancouver Giants and the Victoria Royals. So far this season the Vancouver Giants are 2-0 against Victoria having outscored them 11-8. Justin Sourdif leads all Giants with two goals and four assists for six points through two meetings with the Royals while Royals captain Tarun Fizer leads the Royals with a goal and three assists against Vancouver. The Giants and Royals have met each other in the playoffs in each of the previous two post-seasons, and would have met in 2020 were it not for the season being shut down because of COVID-19. MINER’S HISTORIC RUN – Giants goaltender Trent Miner became the Vancouver Giants all-time shutout minutes record holder last Wednesday thanks to spotless nine-save relief appearance against Victoria. Unfortunately that record came to an end on Saturday, April 10th against Prince George.

Daryl K. “Doc” Seaman passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2009. He was 86. Mr. Seaman was one of the original six owners and was instrumental in purchasing and bringing the Atlanta Flames and the National Hockey League to Calgary in 1980. His brother Byron, Ralph T. Scurfield, Norm Green, Normie Kwong and Harley Hotchkiss were also among the first owners. “I’ve lost a dear friend of 55 years and I have lost the best partner a man could have,” said fellow Flames owner, lifetime Daryl K. Seaman friend and business associate Hotchkiss. 1922 - 2009 “People should know that the Flames were Doc’s initiative and Doc’s idea. There would have been no Flames in Calgary were it not for Doc.
