But with each new season comes the excitement of player appearances out and about in Kern County. Less than a week upon arriving in Bakersfi eld, RW Stephane Goulet and LW Mathieu Aubin made their fi rst appearance in their new city. The two friends from Quebec participated in the California Brain Injury Association Dinner and Auction on September 30. The two were introduced to the attend- ees and answered a few questions about joining the Condors and traveling from Quebec. Highlights also included Aubin and Goulet taking part in a fi erce Wii Golf match with members of the dinner. “It was a great fi rst event in Bakersfi eld,” said Goulet. “It was an opportunity for Mathieu and me to meet some fans and also help out a great cause. It was a great introduction.” Just about a week later, on October 9, a couple of international players experienced their fi rst real taste of Bakersfi eld when G Timo Pielmeier, from Germany and C Matthew Myers from Wales paid a visit to the Highway 99 Cruise-N-Show on Chester Avenue. Pielmeier and Myers kicked off the event as they were introduced on the stage before the main event began. The show was exciting for Pielmeier, who has a particular liking for cars. The player appearances continued throughout October and into November, including D Patrik Prokop, kicking off a fundraiser with the Condors at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, as well as stops at the Special Olympics at Rosewood Retirement Center and numerous media appearances on ESPN Radio 1230, KGET-TV17, ABC23 and Eyewitness News 29/58. Most recently, C Maxime Macenauer stopped by Colonel Howard Nichols Elementary to have lunch with Mrs. Brandon’s choir as a reward for her class raising the most money for their school through their fundraiser with the Condors. After the kids sat down with their lunch in the park, Macenauer ap- peared, and the kids screamed for joy. After their initial excitement, the kids gathered their strength to sing their rendition of the National An- them, which they will be performing tonight at Rabobank Arena in front of their largest audience ever. It was a meaningful event at Nichols Elementary, not only for the kids, many of which expressed their enthusiasm for the Condors, but also for Macenauer. “These kids were such a joy to be around,” said Macenauer. “I love coming out to see kids in the com- munity. They are some of our biggest fans and we appreciate that.” It’s only November, and the players will be here for many more months to create more memorable mo- ments in the community that will last lifetime. Contact the Community & Media Relations Manager Jason Lockhart at 324-PUCK (7825) to get the Condors involved in your community event. OTHER HOCKEY LEAGUES {Appendix 4.1, to Sports Facility Reports, Volume 15} Research completed as of August 15, 2014 AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE (AHL) (AAA) League Update: The AHL had three team changes in 2013–2014: The Connecticut Whale changed their name back to the Hartford Wolf Pack; the Houston Aeros relocated to Des Moines, Iowa and became the Iowa Wild; and the Peoria Rivermen moved to the Southern Professional Hockey League. With the relocation of the Abbotsford Heat (now Adirondack Flames) and the Adirondack Phantoms (now Lehigh Valley Phantoms), the AHL realigned the league. The Flames will be play in the North Division and the Phantoms will be playing in the East Division. The Syracuse Crunch moved from the East Division to the Northeast Division. Lake Erie moved from the North Division to the Midwest Division and the Iowa Wild moved from the Midwest to the West Division. Additionally, the NHL and AHL have discussed moving teams west in order to accommodate the NHL's western franchises. Having teams on the west coast would make player transfers easier from the minor leagues to the NHL for the western teams. Team: Adirondack Flames Affiliate: Calgary Flames Principal Owner: Calgary Flames Team Website Arena: Glen Falls Civic Center Date Built: 1979 Facility Cost ($/Mil): $3 Facility Financing: N/A Facility Website UPDATE: In April 2014, the City of Abbotsford paid the owners of the Adirondack Flames (at that time known as the Abbotsford Heat) $5.5 million to end the team's contract with the City. The team had already cost the city $7.3 million.
