Home of the Welcome! HOME OF THE WELCOME! Welcome to the Treasure Valley’s premiere venue for sports and entertainment. CenturyLink Arena and The Grove Hotel, nestled beautifully in Downtown Boise, provide the opportunity and the convenience to stay the night, explore shops, discover new restaurants, and enjoy Boise’s nightlife before and after each event. CenturyLink Arena is the proud home of The Idaho Steelheads as well as Idaho’s largest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organization, Front Street Fights. The Idaho Steelheads, NHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars, will skate into their twenty second season having never missed a playoff appearance! The streak is currently the longest active streak in North American professional hockey (NHL, AHL, ECHL). Fourth-year head coach, Neil Graham, and a defensively sound Steelheads core, remain relentless in their quest to bring Boise its third ECHL Kelly Cup! In other ECHL news, The Idaho Steelheads will welcome one new divisional foe, the Kansas City Mavericks. As always, the Mountain Division stacks up quite competitively! The Mountain Division saw its fifth consecutive Kelly Cup awarded to a team within its division, fueling continued rivalries and more excitement to another action packed season of Steelheads hockey! In the world’s fastest growing sport, mixed martial arts (MMA), Front Street Fights has quickly gained popularity and notoriety within the Treasure Valley as well as the national MMA community. Its success has already paved the way for even bigger fight promotions such as Bellator and UFC. Front Street Fights enters its fifth year and promises to continue packing a punch for all fight fans! Furthermore, CenturyLink Arena has featured a collection of other great events the Treasure Valley has to offer. We have proudly played host to a handful of the nation’s best concerts, NBA and NHL exhibition games, arena football, college basketball, BSU Hockey, X-Games flat track moto racing, roller derby, a variety of expos and the circus. For all your catering requests, the Grove Hotel and its executive chef, Chris Hain, remain dedicated to preparing and providing our entertainment suites with excellent food and beverage options for all your social or corporate gatherings. Due to their popularity and convenience, we are bringing back all our pre-order value packages that complement a plethora of options as well as any budget during our events. • Other Hockey Leagues
OTHER HOCKEY LEAGUES {Appendix 4.1, to Sports Facility Reports, Volume 15} Research completed as of August 15, 2014 AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE (AHL) (AAA) League Update: The AHL had three team changes in 2013–2014: The Connecticut Whale changed their name back to the Hartford Wolf Pack; the Houston Aeros relocated to Des Moines, Iowa and became the Iowa Wild; and the Peoria Rivermen moved to the Southern Professional Hockey League. With the relocation of the Abbotsford Heat (now Adirondack Flames) and the Adirondack Phantoms (now Lehigh Valley Phantoms), the AHL realigned the league. The Flames will be play in the North Division and the Phantoms will be playing in the East Division. The Syracuse Crunch moved from the East Division to the Northeast Division. Lake Erie moved from the North Division to the Midwest Division and the Iowa Wild moved from the Midwest to the West Division. Additionally, the NHL and AHL have discussed moving teams west in order to accommodate the NHL's western franchises. Having teams on the west coast would make player transfers easier from the minor leagues to the NHL for the western teams. Team: Adirondack Flames Affiliate: Calgary Flames Principal Owner: Calgary Flames Team Website Arena: Glen Falls Civic Center Date Built: 1979 Facility Cost ($/Mil): $3 Facility Financing: N/A Facility Website UPDATE: In April 2014, the City of Abbotsford paid the owners of the Adirondack Flames (at that time known as the Abbotsford Heat) $5.5 million to end the team's contract with the City. The team had already cost the city $7.3 million.
