In the week leading up to Chingay 2017 from 9 to 12 February, we would like to invite media to cover the following Chingay events. Details are as follows: A) COVERAGE FOR THE CHINGAY MAIN PARADE Date: Friday, 10 Feb (Parade 1) & Saturday, 11 Feb (Parade 2) Time: 7.00pm to 10.00pm (Propose media to arrive at 7.00pm – meet PA Media Liaison Officers at the Media Tent at the F1 Pit Building Car Park) Venue: F1 Pit Building GOHs: PM Lee & Mrs Lee for Parade 1 and President Tony Tan Keng Yam & Mrs Mary Tan for Parade 2. (DPM Teo, ESM Goh and other Ministers are attending the parade too. Hosting Minister for both nights: Minister Chan Chun Sing, Deputy Chairman of the PA.) Page 1 of 9 Newsworthy Highlights At the parade Grand Finale involving 2,500 performers, Prime Minister (Parade 1) and President (Parade 2) will cheer Singaporeans on to build a WeCare and United Singapore. The parade will be broadcast to our fellow citizens through Channel 8; to the world via Channel NewsAsia (International Channel) and through live streaming via the Chingay website (www.chingay.org.sg). (Please check the exact words from PM and President against their delivery at the parade.) In addition, there will be exciting parade highlights as in Annex A. PM and President will meet the performers before the parade. B) COVERAGE FOR CHINGAY 2017 NIGHT FIESTA @ CHINATOWN Date: Sunday, 12 Feb Time: 7.30pm to 10.00pm [Propose for the media to arrive at 7.30pm – meet PA Media Liaison Officers at the Media Counter located beside Western Union Bank, Lucky Chinatown (access via Pagoda Street)] Venue: Closed stretch of Eu Tong Sen Street & New Bridge Road (between Upper Cross Street & Kreta Ayer Road) GOH: Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister in Prime Minister’s Office and Deputy Chairman of the PA. Newsworthy Highlights Expected turn out of 30,000 visitors who can enjoy up-close and personal fiesta experience with 12 dazzling Chingay floats and performances staged by 1,000 international and local Chingay performers; Minister Chan Chun Sing will tour the fiesta to meet and interact with visitors at the Chingay Night Fiesta; First-time transformation of Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road into a vibrant Chingay night carnival where locals and tourists alike can walk freely along the closed road to take photos with Chingay floats and interact with the Chingay performers; Release of live firecrackers as part of the Opening at about 8.15pm, and fireworks as part of finale act of the Chingay Night Fiesta at about 9.00pm; Page 2 of 9 Exciting programmes such as “Silent Disco” for the young and young at heart; and Acapella performances by local vocal group MICapella and high adrenalin dance performance by The Royal Dance-Off (TRDO)! (See Night Fiesta Programme at Annex B) C) MEDIA ACCREDITATION & MEDIA PREVIEW ON INTERNATIONAL GROUPS’ Date: Thursday, 9 Feb Time: 9.15am to 11.45am (Propose media to arrive at 9.00am) Venue: Temasek Suite (Level 3), F1 Pit Building (Next to Singapore Flyer) Newsworthy Highlights Advisory and sharing on different interesting news/photo angles for Chingay Main Parade to facilitate coverage by journalists and camera crew; Administrative briefing on media coverage for Chingay 2017; Experience first-hand preview of performances by our Chingay international groups as well as photo & interview opportunities at their rehearsal; Media accreditation and collection of media passes at Temasek Suite immediately after the preview of performances by our Chingay international groups (as part of security measures required by Police). (See Annex C for Programme on Media Accreditation / Preview of International Groups at the Rehearsal) INVITATION 2 Media are invited to cover the Chingay events as mentioned above. There will be exciting photo and interview opportunities for both local and international media. As required by the Police for security reasons, only accredited media personnel will be admitted into Chingay Main Parade held on 10 & 11 Feb. Page 4 of 9 ANNEX A - EXCITING HIGHLIGHTS FOR CHINGAY MAIN PARADE SOUNDWAVES CHINGAY, WECARE SINGAPORE 狮韵妆艺,同心关怀新加坡 A Water, Fire, Snow, Xinyao and Musical Parade to celebrate Chingay 45! 水火雪,新谣与音乐的文化飨宴,欢庆妆艺四十五! Exciting performances from countries/territories such as Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand; A re-enactment of Chingay Parade items in the 70s such as The Blossom Flowers Ladies 茶花旦, Maiden & The Boat Man 桃花搭渡, Flower Festive Drums 凤阳花 鼓, Pick-a-Back 老背少, Heavenly Blessings 天女散花; Performance by Chingay 2017 Artist of the Year Liang Wern Fook 梁文福 and talented singers such as Alfred Sim 沈志豪, Abigail Yeo 姚惠珊, Bakti Khair, Vicknesvari Vadivalagan, Chriz Tong 汤薇恩, Jacky Chew 周玮贤, Juno Lin 林昭宇, Stella Seah 谢慧娴 (at Red Sector Only); Beautiful opening item by 600-performer “Crescent and Star”《 星月之舞》; A reinterpretation of Chingay 2014 item based on poem 花同心 by Poet Pan Cheng Lui 潘正镭. Paint with One Heart 又见花同心 will present a 40m by 30m hand-painted Batik cloth by famous artist Mr Ika Zahri Bin Sarkasi, featuring Singapore’s national flower – Vanda Miss Joaquim, accompanied by a beautiful dance performance by 300 young ladies; An energetic and spirited performance presented by the NS50 Celebration Committee, featuring SAF MDC, SAF Band, SAF MP Silent Precision Drill Squad, SPF Band and SPF Bag Pipers; A hope-filled and joyous performance by 350 Singapore Soka Association youths adorned in brightly-lit costumes and hand props that highlights the message of coexistence in peace and harmony through the celebration of friendships among youths in a vibrant and futuristic way in the item – City of Dreams 《梦想狮城》 Nature elements like “Water”, “Fire” and “Snow” as part of the parade. In addition, audiences can also expect to see the “wind” and “rain” effect in our special 1, 000-member PA Youth Movement item, as youths of Singapore come together to demonstrate their resilience and confidence towards building a brighter future Singapore, despite challenges and uncertainties. Audiences can also expect to watch aerial shows, firecrackers and fireworks as part of the grand people’s parade of Singapore Grand Finale involving 2,500 multi-ethnic performers entitled “Soundwaves Chingay, WeCare Singapore” Page 5 of 9 ANNEX B CHINGAY 2017 NIGHT FIESTA @ CHINATOWN SUNDAY, 12 FEBRUARY 2017 7.30PM TO 10.00PM CLOSED STRETCH OF EU TONG SEN STREET & NEW BRIDGE ROAD GENERAL PROGRAMME TIME PROGRAMME 7.30pm Night Fiesta @ Chinatown Commences The Chingay 2017 Night Fiesta is divided into four carnival zones: Yesteryear Chingay Zone Multi-ethnic Zone Youth Zone WeCare Zone Visitors can walk freely along the stretch of closed roads of Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road (stretch in between Kreta Ayer Road and Upper Cross Street) to enjoy pockets of Chingay street performances and take photos with Chingay floats. They can board four out of the 12 Chingay floats on display. There will be performances by local and international groups on the main stage (near Garden Bridge) from 7.30 pm to 10.00 pm. 8.15pm Launch of Chingay 2017 Night Fiesta @ Chinatown GOH Minister Chan Chun Sing, Minister (PMO) and Deputy Chairman of PA; Minister Yaacob Ibrahim, Anchor Minister for Jalan Besar GRC Grassroots Organisations (GROs); Dr Lily Neo, Adviser to Jalan Besar GRC GROs; Mr Desmond Tan, Chief Executive Director of the PA; and Mr Vincent Tan, BBM, Chairman of the Chinatown Festival Committee will be invited to launch Chingay 2017 Night Fiesta @ Chinatown. On the cue of the emcee, Minister Chan, Minister Yaacob, Dr Neo, CED and Mr Vincent Tan, Chairman of the Chinatown Festival Committee will each pass a scroll with auspicious greeting or message to their respective LED Lions. After which, the LED Lions will unveil the scrolls from their mouth.
