Palabras clave: geocronología U-Pb, zircones detríticos, cuenca Arequipa, Grupo Yura, cuenca Mesozoica, procedencia sedimentaria, geología andina iv ABSTRACT The present study titled ―U-Pb Geochronology in Detrital Zircon of Yura Group at Tacna‖ is focused in building of the geodynamic setting of deposition of sandstones of Yura Group at Tacna, and a major scale of the Arequipa – Tarapacá Basin, therefore a palaeogragraphic model of Jurassic-lower cretaceous of Arequipa basin is elaborated, this one included southern Peru, northern Chile and possibly noreasthern Argentina. The methodology used is detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology, its purpose is unravel the sedimentary provenance related to several sources of zircon (mainly magmatic arcs), furthermore the outer morphology of zircons is studied by petrographic observation; and internal morphology of zircons [OZP] by cathodoluminiscence imaging. Twelve (12) samples were studied, they passed through granulometric, gravimetric, magnetic separation and hand picking (between 80 and 100 grains) with stereomicroscope. Three (3) samples were collected around cerro Challatita, eight (8) at cerro Chachacumane, and two (2) at quebrada Ataspaca. U-Pb analysis, morphology, and internal structures of zircón from Cachíos Formation, Labra Formation and Hualhuani Formation, all of them exhibit many similarities, so they were interpreted in the same way. The mostly morphology of zircon is rounded, it points a source from metamorphic rocks and/or highly mature sedimentary rocks, and the minority of them have prismatic and pyramidal habits, the internal structures of this crystals reveal that they are rounded and have zoning pattern oscillatory [OZP] belonging of a magmatic environment, the other part have an inherited or xenocristic core and a fenocristic rim, which represent a metamorphic environment. The results of U-Pb geochronology have a mode (~80%) between 500 to 700 Ma, this one is related to Pampean Orogeny, and the second group of ages are between 900 to 1200 Ma, and the parental rocks are the Arequipa Massif and Susnsas-Grenville belt, in smaller quantities there are ages between 200 to 300 Ma (Mitu rift) coming from Cordillera Oriental and the ages >1200 Ma represent sedimentary recycling of Amazonian Craton and/or Arequipa Massif’ protolith (~1.9 Ga). The broad spectrum of ages between 500 to 700 Ma in this study and others, it is only possible that they were derived from a fossil magmatic arc, in this case the Pampean Orogeny, which was the mainly positive feature in the landscape, located in the east, and the lack of andean ages (< 200 Ma) points out an absence volcanism during Jurassic and lower Cretaceous, so the volcanic arc was inactive during deposition of Yura Group, probably because of flat slab subduction.

Swiss J Palaeontol (2020) 139:9 https://doi.org/10.1186/s13358-020-00210-y Swiss Journal of Palaeontology RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access First record of non-mineralized cephalopod jaws and arm hooks from the latest Cretaceous of Eurytania, Greece Christian Klug1* , Donald Davesne2,3, Dirk Fuchs4 and Thodoris Argyriou5 Abstract Due to the lower fossilization potential of chitin, non-mineralized cephalopod jaws and arm hooks are much more rarely preserved as fossils than the calcitic lower jaws of ammonites or the calcitized jaw apparatuses of nautilids. Here, we report such non-mineralized fossil jaws and arm hooks from pelagic marly limestones of continental Greece. Two of the specimens lie on the same slab and are assigned to the Ammonitina; they represent upper jaws of the aptychus type, which is corroborated by fnds of aptychi. Additionally, one intermediate type and one anaptychus type are documented here. The morphology of all ammonite jaws suggest a desmoceratoid afnity. The other jaws are identifed as coleoid jaws. They share the overall U-shape and proportions of the outer and inner lamellae with Jurassic lower jaws of Trachyteuthis (Teudopseina). We also document the frst belemnoid arm hooks from the Tethyan Maastrichtian. The fossils described here document the presence of a typical Mesozoic cephalopod assemblage until the end of the Cretaceous in the eastern Tethys. The studied 276 successive recorded ammonite assemblages allowed detailed biostratigraphical subdivision and the correlation of the sections at the ammonite zone and subzone scale. The foraminifers were studied in 96 samples and 55 diagenetically screened belemnite rostra were analyzed for C and 0 isotope. Keywords: Facies and thickness distribution of the Aalenian sediments suggest that deposition took place in a nearly Palaeoc1imate symmetrical sub-basin included into an intra plate shallow platform, developed over continental crust, on Biotic changes Foraminifers which flexure was the main control responsible for subsidence and basin evolution. Ammonoids Noteworthy negative 613Cb1 excursions, coinciding with seawater temperature changes, were recorded Stable isotopes during the Bradfordensis Biochron, around the Concavum-Limitatum biochron boundary, and around the Paiaeoceanography Aalenian-Bajocian boundary. A close relationship between the changes in seawater temperature and the biotic changes observed in the foraminiferal and in the ammonoids assemblages has been evidenced. During the Comptum Biochron, the 61801-based palaeotemperature shows a remarkable cooling interval with an average seawater temperature of 15.7 QC.

  • The Marine Jurassic of Argentina: a Biostratigraphic Framework
326 by Alberto C. Riccardi The marine Jurassic of Argentina: a biostratigraphic framework Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Paseo del Bosque s/n, 1900 La Plata, Argentina. Email: [email protected] In Argentina the best and most complete marine Juras- sic succession is exposed between 32° and 39° S, along a N-S belt roughly coincident with the border with Chile. Here all stages, except the Kimmeridgian, are represented by marine facies. Ammonites have provided a biostratigraphic framework to date and correlate lithostratigraphic units and sequences, to reconstruct the history of the marine fill, and allow the development of other palaeontological and geological studies. Recent studies on the systematics and/or biostratigra- phy of Andean ammonites have provided the basis for the presentation of a summary of the 45 ammonite zones of the Jurassic of west-central Argentina and to stress its significance in reconstructing the palaeogeographic evolution of that region. Introduction Jurassic rocks in Argentina are present over extensive areas (see Fig- ure 1) and include a large variety of marine and continental facies (see Riccardi et al., 1992). South of 39°S marine Jurassic consists of Pliensbachian-Lower Toarcian and uppermost Jurassic strata, repre- sented respectively in central and southern Patagonia. North of 39°S marine Jurassic is exposed along a N-S belt roughly coincident with the boundary between Argentina and Chile, up to 31°S where it becomes restricted to Chile. The marine Jurassic generally rests unconformably on Upper Triassic (west-central Argentina) and Upper Jurassic vulcanites (southern Patagonia) or on Upper Paleozoic (west-central Patago- nia).

Proceedings of the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society 130, 2009, 99–132 The Inferior Oolite at Coombe Quarry, near Mapperton, Dorset, and a new Middle Jurassic ammonite faunal horizon, Aa-3b, Leioceras comptocostosum n.biosp. in the Scissum Zone of the Lower Aalenian ROBERT CHANDLER1 and JOHN CALLOMON2 1Shirley High School, Croydon, Surrey, CR0 5EF (e-mail: [email protected]) 2University College, Gordon Street, WC1H OAJ (e-mail: [email protected]) Summary The biostratigraphy of Coombe Quarry at Mapperton, Dorset is described. Its special significance lies in the presence of an ammonite faunal horizon Aa-3b (hitherto not recognized elsewhere in the English Inferior Oolite) lying in the upper part of the Scissum Zone. Its exceptionally abundant and well-preserved ammonite assemblage characterizes a new species, Leioceras comptocostosum sp.nov., giving an unusually clear insight into the structure of a natural, genetic, true ammonite species – a palaeobiospecies – as expressed in the intraspecific variability of its fossils. It typifies the evolution of the genus Leioceras, regarded as a phylogenetic segment of the evolutionary lineage of the family Graphoceratidae, as an isochronous slice – a transient – through the trunk of that lineage. The formal taxonomic relationships of the new (bio)species to existing nominal Linnéan (morpho)species, with which some of its variants have in the past been associated in European continental descriptions, are briefly reviewed. Leading among these are Leioceras comptum (Reinecke, 1818) and Leioceras costosum (Quenstedt, 1886), both of which have been used as zonal indices and both of which are in need of serious revision.

FRAGMENTA PALAEONTOLOGICA HUNGARICA 27, BUDAPEST, 2009 Toarcian–Aalenian Hammatoceratinae (Ammonitina) from the Gerecse Mts (NE Transdanubian Range, Hungary) by Zoltán KOVÁCS Abstract — The Toarcian–Aalenian Ammonoidea fauna of the Gerecse Mts belongs to the Mediterranean Province of the Mediterranean– Caucasian Realm. In this paper the Hammatoceratinae, represented by 7 genera (Geczyceras, Crestaites, Hammatoceras, Bredyia, Planammatoceras, Accardia, Pseudaptetoceras) and 31 species, are described and figured, and their stratigraphic distribution is recorded. Three new species: Geczyceras martinezae n. sp., Geczyceras galaczi n. sp., and Crestaites szentei n. sp. are introduced.
