The life of the community develops as the culture develops. In a culture, reflects the worldview, the value that is believed, and the behavior shown by each society. Culture Lead Development (CLD) becomes the mainstream in the development of SMEs. Culture lead society development. The analysis of a social system in a society covers the economy and social contexts of the society itself. The phenomenon of social system holds its own characteristics based on the culture bearing the different analysis. It caused by the social values in each region which are the results of the individual values of the interacted society. The culture constellation using a symbolic-reciprocal environment clearly illustrates that humans are both individual beings and social beings. Development and culture has reciprocal relationships. Development will meet its form if humans have a culture that will be applied in development. Culture will develop into a new culture after development can be felt by humans, and so on. Emphasizing that the economic system does not stand alone but it is integrated with the environmental system is the principle that underlies the spirituality and industry balance. All goods and services produced to meet human needs are extracted from nature, whether from mining, agricultural or fishery materials. Behavioral trends in the economic and transaction field cannot be separated from the attention form cultural research. Most of the production and consumption systems directly extract natural resources and environmental services. Human survival determines cultural sustainability. The symbiotic relationship between culture and social order is long-term. The harmony of society is continuously formed because there is a conformity of shared value. The method in this research uses in-depth surveys and interviews towards the research object. This research applies qualitative research method with sampling method. The qualitative data based on the fact that the field is the data alive, iii dynamic and changing, descriptive approach here not only exposure data is passive, however the description is critical analysis with a correlational perspective. The research uses descriptive-evaluative approach. A descriptive research is to describes about a variable, symptom, or phenomenon. While evaluative approach is use to analyze the process which is undertaken in order to determine a policy by using a technique that develops the thinking framework in order to make a decision in entrepreneurship. This qualitative study used for an output of strategic policy output in the form of the SMEs’ managers economic independency strategy through the utilization of crativity and innovation in Indonesia and Brunei Darusalam Research found that culture is humans’ identity as well as their resource. Human develops through culture. Culture as a resource has stayed and settled in the minds and souls of every human being. There is a reciprocal relationship between human activity in SMEs and culture in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam. The abstraction process from resources to a culture coming from innovation and creativity has a strong relationship with the spirituality level of entrepreneurs. The rapid diet transition in the region is leading to a high prevalence of non-communicable diseases. The aim of this exploratory study was to document traditional foods and beverages and associated traditional knowledge that have potential positive health impacts, from selected countries in the region. The study also focused on identifying their importance in the prevention and management of lifestyle-related diseases and nutritional deficiencies as well as for the improvement of the overall health and wellbeing. This was conducted in selected locations in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Nepal through a qualitative method with a pre-tested documentation format. Through a detailed documentation of their health benefits, the study tries to highlight the significance of traditional foods in public health as well as their relevance to local market economies towards sustainable production and consumption and sustainable community livelihoods. Kajian lapangan yang menggunakan teknik pengamatan turut serta, temu bual dan tinjauan soal selidik dilaksanakan di beberapa lokasi petempatan etnik Kadazan-Dusun termasuklah kawasan Pantai Barat Selatan (Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tuaran, Tamparuli, Ranau dan Kundasang), Pantai Barat Utara (Kudat, Sikuati dan Kota Marudu) dan Pedalaman atas (Tenom, Keningau, Tambunan, Nabawan dan Sook). Dapatan kajian mendapati bahawa pengkomersilan dan modenisasi mempengaruhi keaslian makanan tradisi etnik Kadazan-Dusun khususnya tuhau dan bambangan tetapi tidak melenyapkan identiti budaya etnik berkenaan kerana penyediaan secara tradisi masih turut dipasarkan dan mendapat sambutan dalam kalangan penduduk. Sementelah itu, lokasi petempatan mempengaruhi keaslian dan improvisasi serta tahap dan kaedah pengkomersilan makanan tradisi berkenaan. Antara faktor-faktor yang menyumbang terhadap senario tersebut adalah kebolehcapaian atau ketembusaan media, tarikan pelancong dan keberadaan hubungan antara budaya dalam kalangan etnik.

Brunei Malay: An Overview1 Adrian Clynes Universiti Brunei Darussalam INTRODUCTION Brunei Malay in its various forms can be identified with a nation, an ethnic group, and a region. Malay is the national language of Brunei Darussalam, with perhaps two-thirds of the population of around 330,000 (late 1999) speaking a variety of Brunei Malay (cakap barunay, kurapak barunay) as a mother tongue, and many more citizens speaking it as a second language.2 More generally, varieties identified as Brunei Malay are spoken by the Brunei ethnic group, both in Brunei and in neighbouring areas of Malaysia - in Eastern Sarawak, in the Limbang, Lawas and Miri areas, and in Sabah, around Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Sipitang and on the island of Labuan (Asmah 1985, Yabit Alas 1997). Further afield, BM is the basis for, or has strongly influenced, Malay varieties used for interethnic communication in this region (see below). Today, BM remains a vigorous, locally-expanding language; other indigenous languages are being abandoned by younger speakers in favour of it, and of Brunei Malay ethnic identity (Martin 1996a). Historically cakap barunay is one of the most influential Malay varieties, both in northern Borneo, and further afield.3 There is a clear Bruneian element in what is perhaps the very earliest example of Malay to be published (Collins 1996b, 1998), the 426-item wordlist collected in 1522 by the Italian Pigafetta, who visited Brunei while travelling through the Philippines, Brunei and the Moluccas (Skelton 1969).
