Water has been chosen as a main pillar of Argentine Government policies for the period 2016-2019.

The sustainable use of water will contribute in parallel to other socioeconomic policies to eradicate poverty, in harmony with Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Facing this challenge, the National Water Plan (NWP) has been prepared by the Undersecretariat of Water Resources bringing a framework for action whose ultimate goal is to maximize the economic, environmental and social function of water resources. The NWP is structured on four axes according to the principle of water security, through the implementation of which are expected to achieve coherent and integrated goals providing drinking water and sewage for all inhabitants; adaptation to the impact of climate variability and change, protecting society against floods and droughts; enhancing agricultural and industrial production (irrigation for agriculture and afforestation, industrial development), as well as multipurpose use of water and biomass including energy generation. In addition, NWP includes four cross-cutting axes such as water resources protection; capacity building; taking advantage of innovation applied to water resources development looking for further practical solutions. All water policies in a framework of stakeholders co-responsibility and participation.
