Jänner 2007 On the Quaternary reptilian fauna of Bashkortostan (South Urals, Russia) Zur Quartären Reptilienfauna von Baschkortostan (Südural, Rußland) VlNER KHABIBULLIN KURZFASSUNG Die Geschichte der quartären Reptilienfauna von Baschkortostan (Südural, Rußland) wird im Zusammen- hang mit einem kurzen Überblick zur Entwicklung des Klimas, der Landschaften und der Vegetation dargestellt. Fünf Reptilienarten {Lacerta agilis, Anguis fragilis, Lacerta vivipara, Natrix natrix, Vipera berus) sind für das Spätquartär des Untersuchungsgebietes anhand von Fossilbelegen nachgewiesen. Die neuzeitliche Herpetofauna des Urals begann sich im späteren Pliozän herauszubilden. Die gegenwärtige Reptilfauna entwickelte sich im mitt- leren Holozän, mit der Rückkehr der Reptilien aus den eiszeitlichen Refugialräumen. Die Gebirgsketten des Urals sowie die Tätigkeit des Menschen hatten auf die Ausbildung der gegenwärtigen Kriechtierfauna der Region keinen bedeutenden Einfluß. ABSTRACT The history of the Quaternary reptilian fauna of Bashkortostan (South Urals, Russia) is described and the development of climate, landscapes and vegetation are briefly reviewed. Five late Quaternary fossil reptile species {Lacerta agilis, Anguis fragilis, Lacerta vivipara, Natrix natrix, Vipera berus) had been identified for the region. Thus, the aim of this study was to propose a method to assess ecological drawdowns from power station reservoirs. An example of its application for the Volga River downstream area is presented. The efficiency of the quantitative assessment of ecological water discharge from the reservoir of the Volgograd hydroelectric power station is analyzed and discussed in relation to the improvement of the environmental condition of the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain, which covers an area of 6.1 × 103 km2. It is shown that a decrease of spring-summer flooding worsened significantly its environmental condition, i.e. biodiversity decreased by 2-3 times, soil fertility declined by 25%, floodplain relief deformation occurred and the productivity of semi-migratory fish decreased by more than 3 times. -

- The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018,[2] 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA’n’WATERWAYS after the country was awarded the hosting rights on 2 December 2010. This will be the rst World Cup held in Europe since 2006; all but one of the stadium venues are in European Russia, west of the Ural Mountains to keep travel time manageable. - The nal tournament will involve 32 national teams, which include 31 teams determined through qualifying competitions and Routes from the Five Seas 14 June - 15 July 2018 the automatically quali ed host team. A total of 64 matches will be played in 12 venues located in 11 cities. Nutrient Dynamics Along the Moskva River Under Heavy Pollution and Limited Self- Purification Capacity

An extensive study conducted during the dry summer of 2019 provided a detailed picture of the nutrient content dynamics along the Moskva River. Water sampling at 38 locations on the main river and at 17 of its tributaries revealed a manifold increase in phosphorus and nitrogen concentrations as the river crosses the Moscow metropolitan area, which can be attributed to both direct discharge of poorly treated sewage and nonpoint urban pollution. Even at the Moskva River lower reaches, where the anthropogenic pressure on the river and its tributaries is less pronounced, the inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus content remains consistently high and exceeds the environmental guidelines by up to almost 10 times. This indicates increased vulnerability of the Moskva River ecosystem during periods of low flow, which can be a major factor of eutrophication in the entire Moskva-Oka-Volga system. Comparison of our data with some archive records shows no significant improve in the nutrient pollution of the river since the 1990s, which raises further concern about the effectiveness of water quality management in Moscow urban region. 1 Introduction Anthropogenic nutrient pollution has been considered one of the world’s major environmental problems for decades [1]. Excessive nutrient loading leads to eutrophication of lakes and streams, increasing the risk of harmful algal blooms, causing damage to aquatic ecosystems and impairing water treatment [2]. -

World War I and civil war led to conscription into the tsarist, Bolshevik, and anti-Bolshevik armies, removing over fourteen million young male peasants from their villages. Revolution destroyed the centuries-old peasant-landlord relationship, redistributed land among the peasantry, democratized the countryside, and allowed villages to install autonomous governing bodies. War and social turmoil also brought massive famine and government requisitioning of grain and possessions, killing thousands of peasants and destroying their means of existence. The Bolshevik victory, a defining event of the twentieth century, was ultimately determined by the temporary support of the peasantry, the vast majority of Russia's population. This project studies the interaction between peasants and government in the Russian province of Viatka from the beginning of World War I to the end of the Civil War in 1921. In doing so, it will advance how scholars understand the nature of the Revolution, peasant-state relations, and peasant society and culture in general. On the ii one hand, I analyze Russia’s changes through a study of peasant responses to tsarist, Provisional Government, and Soviet recruitment into the armed forces; requisitioning of grain and possessions; and establishment of local administrations.
