BERRIEW NEWSLETTER NUMBER 346 MARCH 2017 IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE NEWSLETTER We have been asked by a few people if the Newsletter could always be published before the beginning of the month it covers. The Newsletter was originally a Parish Newsletter and was therefore published on the first Sunday of the month, (and that is how it has stayed). However if that Sunday is for example the 5th or 6th of the month some events or notices that cover those first few days are being missed. So it was decided at the last Committee meeting that with effect from the April Newsletter we will publish on the last Friday of the month. The Newsletter will be available from lunchtime that day. The cut off date for each month will still be listed in the Editor's Postscript and in the diary of events, usually on the last page before the adverts. Help Needed We are also once again, becoming short of volunteers for collating and stapling the Newsletter and we are having to call on the same people every month. These few people are very generously giving their time to help – if they didn't there would be no Newsletter. We produce 700+ copies every month – very rarely are there any left at the end of the month – so the interest for it is there. We do not want to head back down the road of 2012 when there was a real possibility that the Newsletter would be closed down. But if we don't get the help needed there may be no option – this is a Community Newsletter. As you know we exist on donations only, so there is no way we can afford to have the Newsletter printed, collated and stapled by a printing company. The stapling and collating usually takes about an hour and a half from 9.30am on the last Friday of the month, at the Old School and we usually have 8 volunteers and four committee members each time. I know a lot of people are at work on a Friday morning so it has been suggested that we could swap to the day before on the Thursday evening at a time convenient to most people. The more names we can put on the rota the less often you will be called upon to help. So, if you are interested in helping please contact me either by telephone 01686 641875, by email: barrywallis246 @btinternet.com or by dropping your details into the Newsletter Post box in the Spar and I will get back to you. Lastly, we also have a couple of committee members who will soon be retiring from the committee and we need replacements. We need to get some younger people involved with the Newsletter to carry it on in years to come. We only usually have 2 meetings a year and one large fundraiser – so if you would be interested please contact me (as above). The Berriew Newsletter has grown over the years and is enjoyed by Locals and Visitors alike – lets keep it going!!
