Haromaticansea ttaritcu Days 19-21 July 2013 www.hansapaevad.ee See you in Tartu! Dear townspeople and visitors! It is a great pleasure to welcome you all back to Tartu Hanseatic Days. This year Tartu Hanseatic Days will enter into adulthood – this festivity will take place for the 18 times. Tartu Hanseatic Days have become one of the main events in the town; townspeople consider the event to be a natural part of the year and wait for it as anxiously as for the migratory birds or the first snow. Hereby, the name for the festivities became Tartu Aromatic Hanseatic Days. Scents play an important role in our lives, although we usually do not notice them. Already from the childhood we remember the special scents: pancakes made by mother, grandma’s garden, and vernal bird-cherries on the river bank… These days will add both new and exciting scents as well as old and familiar ones among the Tartu scents. The Hanseatic Days will not take place only because of the yearning for the Middle Ages: they combine together the past, present and the future of Tartu. Our town soon to be one thousand years old is full of rich and exciting life. I invite you all to participate. Urmas Kruuse, Mayor of Tartu How to discover your home town? One way is through the nose. Take a sniff of how the river smells. How sweetly woodpiles ripen and asphalt melts. How the trash rack on the same alley corner always awaits for you with the aroma. Going up from the hall stairs you know that someone is frying potatoes. From the café’s kitchen window you catch a smell of bread. Wintery cold front hall with the loo and cats. Tõdõk-tõdõk from the oily iron train. Let’s take a sniff of our Tartu! Here you can see different artists and painters, drawers, portraitists and simple doodlers. Creators of design and applied art – those who are already famous and those who strive for it. The king of Toome Art Town is a confident street artist who is doing his own thing, exposing his skills, personality and uniqueness. He is a free and independent citizen who comes and goes whenever he wants. His studio is there where he is and he is always surrounded by admirers, fans and enviers. Ramblers have an opportunity to see and take part in the creation process, and compare various interpretations of the same sights. Talk to the artist himself, participate or buy works and to paint and draw together with the artists. Come with your own drawing block and paint box to join the creative company. 6 PROGRAM The IMPRO tent works as an open studio where various short courses, trainings, discussions and presentations are held during two days. In the PORTREE (portrait) area you can experience the roles of a model and an artist depending on which seat you take. TÄNAVAKUNSTNIK (street artist) works in privacy; moves around with his easel or has built up an illustrative master class where he works with his technique. STUUDIOKUNSTNIK (studio artist) creates an improvised studio or atelier on spot and works with still-life, model or cave painting. It is always fascinating to watch a man working. DEKOOR and TARBEKUNST (decor and applied art) is such a broad area which includes restorers, textile, clay and glass masters. It is especially exciting to see the overpainting of furniture, dress shield or some other item of applied art. DISAIN (design) is an environment that is full of surprises, the game of form and materials. This is a place for working with the main task of design – solving a problem. GALERII; EKSPOSITSIOON (gallery, exposition) brings extra colours to park sights, makes people slow the pace, offers an opportunity get to know the works, the previous and the ones made on spot, of the artists of the Art Town. The area of KLUBI (club) combines various unions, art clubs and people who share the previous or current exhibitions, hobbies, or art studies. Art town is a place for being and working together. Spontaneity and self-generating processes, air, fragrances and atmosphere can be found here. 7 ChILDREN’S TOWN Saturday, 20 July – 11.00–17.00 Sunday, 21 July – 11.00–15.00 As children, so is the Children’s Town mobile.
