    Central Asia Journal No. 81, Winter 2017 CONCEPTUAL METAPHORS FOR LIFE IN PASHTO Imran Khan & Shuja Ahmad Abstract This paper, using Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) as theoretical framework attempts to identify, analyze and interpret Metaphors for life in Pashto language. It argues that since life is a very rich conceptual domain, therefore it has more than one conceptual mapping. It identifies eight conceptual metaphors for Life in Pashto speech community, and demonstrates through mapping and entailment that how the target domain life is understood through several source domains in the Pashto language and culture. The identified metaphors for life are: Life is a Food, Life is a Journey, Life is a Person, Life is a Container, Life is Music, Life is a Burdon, Life is a Gamble and Life is a Trial. Introduction Metaphor, inherent in our conceptual system, is understanding one kind of thing in terms of another1. This study attempts to identify and interpret language and culture. Pashto (پښتو) conceptual metaphors for life in Pashto language belongs to the Indo-Iranian branch of Indo-European languages2.It is the official language of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan along with Dari (Afghan Persian). Pashto language is also spoken by majority of the population in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Baluchistan provinces of Pakistan as their mother tongue. Pashto is also spoken in the northeast of Iran, Tajikistan and India, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Saudi Arabia. Research Scholar, Area Study Centre, University of Peshawar. Ms Fatima Usman, Assistant Librarian CIIT Lahore also participated the lecture as Assistant Trainer. The lecture was held on May 17, 2017 in the seminar hall of DoIM, Punjab University. The students belong to final year semester (Morning/Evening) was the participant of this guest lecture. As archetypal, and due to video clips, activities, ice breakers and interactive discussion, students took great interest in the lecture. On her concluding remarks Ms. Nosheen Fatima Warriach, appraised the presentation style, components of the topic and activities being done during the lecture. As thanking note, Ms. Nosheen Warriach presented bouquet to Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Incharge Library Information Services, CIIT Lahore and also thanked Ms Fatima Usman for her active role in the lecture.

    Persecution of Ahmadis in Pakistan Monthly Report June 2011 Call for mass murder of Ahmadis in Faisalabad, Pakistan In a recent pamphlet issued jointly by Aalmi Majlis Tahaffuz Khatme Nabuwwat and All Pakistan Students Khatme Nabuwwat Federation, Faisalabad, Muslims have been urged to kill Ahmadis in the open as a pious act of holy war (Jihad), that will entitle the killers to the status of martyrs and ensure them a place under the Holy Prophets flag on the Day of Judgment in the Hereafter. The pamphlet provides a list of approximately fifty Ahmadi prominent persons and business houses giving their addresses. The pamphlet gives the names of the issuing organizations, their cell phone numbers and e-mail address. These are well-known to authorities. The pamphlet and its translation in English are placed at Annexes to this report. The issuance and distribution of this pamphlet has caused great sense of insecurity and anxiety among the local Ahmadis and deep concern among the community in general. The track record shows that the religious extremists at Faisalabad follow up their threats to Ahmadi individuals, and commit murders. Faisalabad has been a hotbed of anti-Ahmadiyya activities for some time. Authorities have rarely acted vigorously against local perpetrators of hate and promoters of bloodshed. As a result, during the past years, well-known Ahmadis were targeted and murdered only for their faith. These were: Dr Abdul Qadir Sheikh Ashraf Pervez Dr Shamsul Haq Tayyab Sheikh Masood Javed Sheikh Nazir Ahmad Sheikh Asif Javed Mr. Maqsood Ahmad Mr. Nasir Ahmad Mr. Abdul Waheed The last four were killed in 2010.
