Discussion. Cette étude n'a pas permis de mettre en évidence une efficacité de l'antivenin sur les paramètres biologiques ou cliniques étudiés. Les causes possibles sont discutées, assorties d'alternatives pour la prise en charge de ces envenimations en Guyane. 7 ABSTRACT Introduction. In French Guiana most of the snakebites are caused by the Crotalinae causing coagulopathy and tissue necrosis that can lead to severe sequelae. The treatment recommended by the World Health Organization is antivenom immunotherapy. Since the end of year 2014, the Centre Hospitalier de l'Ouest Guyanais (CHOG) experiments a polyvalent antivenom, known as Antivipmyn Tri®, which should be effective against venoms from genera Bothrops, Lachesis and Crotalus. The aim of this study was to compare the timecourse of hemostasis and occurrence of complications in treated patients versus the spontaneous evolution. Materials & Methods. A comparative, retrospective study was lead among patients hospitalized at the CHOG from january 2013 to june 2016 who suffered

Ermelinda Oliveira Departamento de Parasitologia, Instituto de Ciencias Biol6gicas, Universidade do Amazonas, Av. Rodrigo Otavio 3.000, 69077-000 Manaus AM, Brazil Abstract. We present natural history information on 66 species of snakes found in the forests of the Mana us region, Central Amazonia, Brazil. For each species, we provide information on size, color pattern, habitat and microhabitat, feeding habits, reproduction, and defense. We also include a partial summary of the infor mation available in the literature for Amazonian localities. Our results are based on nearly 800 captures or sightings of snakes made from 1990-95 at localities around Manaus, mostly at a primary forest reserve 25 km north of Manaus. Field data at this reserve were obtained during over 2600 person-h of visually search ing for snakes, ca. 1600 of which occurred during time-constrained search. Temperature and relative humid ity in Manaus are high and the amount of annual rainfall (2075 mm/yr) is relatively small, with a long dry season (4-7 mo). Of the 65 species for which information is available, 28 (42%) are primarily terrestrial, 20 (30%) fossorial and/or cryptozoic, 13 (20%) arboreal, and four (6%) aquatic, although many species use more than one microhabitat when active.

~ NEW CORAL SNAKE (GENUS MICRURUS) FROM SURINAM. By: A. Abuys, Jukwerderweg 31, 9901 GL Appingedam, The Netherlands. Contents: Introduction - Description - Comparison and conclusion - References. INTRODUCTION Up to 1982 the following coral snakes were record ed from Surinam: Leptomicrurus collaris (Schlegel, 1837) Micrurus averyi Schmidt, 1939 Micrurus hemprichii hemprichii (Jan, 1858) Micrurus ibiboboca (Merrem, 1820) Micrurus lemniscatus lemniscatus (Linnaeus, 1758) Micrurus lemniscatus diutius Burger, 1955 Micrurus psyches psyches (Daudin, 1803) Micrurus surinamensis surinamensis (Cuvier, 1817) This list is drawn up according to Peters & Orejas Miranda (1970) and in the case of Micrurus ibibobo ca according to Hoogmoed (personal communication). In 1982 a previously unknown species of Micrurus in Surinam was found in a collection of snakes of the animal dealer T. Henzen from Paramaribo. The animal was caught in 1982 in the surroundings of Kwamalasamoetoe (south Surinam). At first this animal was determined by John de Bruin from Lelydorp, Surinam, as Micrurus psyches circinalis, a sub-species which was still only known from Trinidad and north-east Venezuela. Later he corrected himself and concluded that it was the sub-species Micrurus psyehes paraensis, which is exalted by Hoge & Romano-Hoge (1978/1979) to specific level. Up to 1982 this species was on ly found in the extreme north and north-east Para (north Brazil). 215 DESCRIPTION The scale information was taken from the live ani mal hy John de Bruin; 15 rows smooth dorsal scales, 210 ventral scales, 34 divided subcaudals, anal scale divided, 7 supra-labials, 7 sub-labials, 1 preocular, 2 postoculars, no loreal scale, 1+1 temporals. The animal measured about 65 cm.

The following is a work in progress and is intended to be a printable quick reference for the venomous snakes of the world. There are a few areas in which common names are needed and various disputes occur due to the nature of such a list, and it will of course be continually changing and updated. And nearly all species have many common names, but tried it simple and hopefully one for each will suffice. I also did not include snakes such as Heterodon ( Hognoses), mostly because I have to draw the line somewhere. Disclaimer: I am not a taxonomist, that being said, I did my best to try and put together an accurate list using every available resource. However, it must be made very clear that a list of this nature will always have disputes within, and THIS particular list is meant to reflect common usage instead of pioneering the field. I put this together at the request of several individuals new to the venomous endeavor, and after seeing some very blatant mislabels in the classifieds…I do hope it will be of some use, it prints out beautifully and I keep my personal copy in a three ring binder for quick access…I honestly thought I knew more than I did…LOL… to my surprise, I learned a lot while compiling this list and I hope you will as well when you use it…I also would like to thank the following people for their suggestions and much needed help: Dr.Wolfgang Wuster , Mark Oshea, and Dr. Brian Greg Fry.

December 2019 Copyright © 2019 by Renan Janke Bosque All rights reserved. ABSTRACT Scientists have regarded mimicry as one of the most amazing examples of the power of natural selection. Early observations by naturalists of the mimetic association between venomous New World coral snakes of the genus Micrurus and harmless mimics has stimulated an intense debate about the causes and consequences of mimicry that persists today. Despite its medical, evolutionary and historical importance our understanding of evolution within the genus Micrurus is negligible. My dissertation explores the evolution of mimicry within South American coral snakes and their mimics using a multi-scale framework involving macroevolutionary (Chapter I), geographic/morphological concordance (Chapters II and III), behavioral (Chapter IV), and phylogeographic (Chapter V) approaches.
