Most of the Garden is occupied by a park-arboretum laid out in style of an English landscape garden, while the floral parterre is constructed in French style, with strictly symmetrical lines. The Garden boasts 12 glasshouses and two artificial ponds. Interesting and very diverse Croatian autochtonous flora is grown on rock gardens, designed as phytogeographical groups: karstic, alpine, Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean. Since 1971 the Botanical Garden is statutorily protected as a monument of nature and culture.
