Wallenskold 's 1925 edition. An evaluation of the placement and ordering of Thibaut 's songs in the codices, as well as their rubrics and melodies, affordsan understanding of the construction of these chansonniers, obscured through decades of reliance on print editions. A rapid scrutiny of these linguistically (C) and musically (R) marginal manuscripts both reveals how little we know about the transmission of trouvere lyric and underscores the importance of a material-philological approach for all future editions of the trouveres. The corpus of the royal trouvere Thibaut IV of Champagne (1201-1253) has been traditionally numbered at between sixty-one and seventy songs. MS Mt, the Chansonnier du Roi de Navarre- interpolated into MS Paris, Bibliotheque nationale de France, fro 844 and considered one of the most reliable collections of Thibaut's songs - contains sixty entries. In his 1925 edition, Axel Wallenskold declared fifty-nine compositions as authentic (see Table 1). -

It can however turn out interesting, in a poetic given sphere, (the champenois lyric circles), in a lapse of time confined well (roughly the first XIIIth century) to analyze how this motive was animated, particularized, even, personalized. We can give at first some elements for a semantic approach of the functioning of the motive in the lexical network where these trouvères insert it. -

1 ·lo non intendo ad altro che a intavulare« 1 Avec ce titre ·INTAVULARE", qui évoque l'activité intense des humanistes et singulièrement d'Angelo Colocci, particulièrement important pour nous - nous avons voulu suggérer que nous suivons aujourd'hui la voie qu'ils ont si utilement ouverte, mus par une égale curiosité et par une passion identique pour les chansonniers de la première lyrique romane et, nous l'espérons, fidèles à leurs enseignements. Mais il ne s'agit pas seulement d'un souvenir exemplaire : concrètement, ce qui nous a incités à entreprendre la présente recherche, ce fut d'avoir étudié leurs précieuses tables, établies avec une sorte de frénésie et le plus souvent séparées de leur contexte, pour tenter de débrouiller l'écheveau de leurs rapports avec les manuscrits eux-mêmes, écheveau qui s'apparente souvent à une énigme policière, parfois résolue, comme dans le cas de la ta vola colocciana ·A utori portughesi,2 ou la table humaniste du chansonnier provençal A3. Plus immédiatement évident encore est l'autre souvenir, celui des Tables anciennes, qui accompagnent, mais trop rarement, les chansonniers, et ne coïncident pas toujours avec eux dans l'enregistrement des pièces. Par rapport aux unes et aux autres (Tables anciennes et Tables humanistes), nos tables (que nous désignerons du terme plus rapide et plus 'moderne' d'Index) ont une autre fin : non plus •tables-mémoire· comme le sont d'habitude celles des humanistes, privées de toute référence à la localisation des textes dans les manuscrits, et pas davantage (ou du moins -

La nobleza altisonante de la lírica provenzal y M la sofisticación académica de los poetas de educación universitaria desciende a niveles más realistas gracias a la traviesa malicia de los coristas de la catedral y la notable decadencia de los estudiantes parisinos, por la energía vigorosa de los músicos de la clase obrera y los excesos paganos de celebraciones campesinas. La Obra de Daniel, hoy considerada uno de los más altos logros dentro del drama musical medieval, se escribió no para estimular la algarabía festiva, sino para controlar y limitar la tradicional parranda. Subdiáconos de la catedral de Beauvais utilizaron como pretexto la fiesta del Día de los Inocentes para permitir—dentro de la misma iglesia—la monta de burro, carcajadas, ruido y correteos, dar palmas, bailar y tocar instrumentos, salvaje tañer de las campanas de la catedral; fiesta, juegos de dados y adivinación de la fortuna en el altar, violencia y falta de respeto abierta hacia la jerarquía religiosa. -

In Volume 11 Raynaud listed each lyric alphabetically according to rhyme word, with an index giving the number of each poem assigned to authors.
