G EORGIADIS The island of Folegandros, located between the Milos and Santorini archipelagos in the southern Kiklades (Greece), constitutes together with Ios and Sikinos the south-central part of the phytogeographical region of the Kiklades. Its flora consists of 474 taxa, 47 of which are under statutory protection, 40 are Greek endemics and 145 are reported here for the first time. We show that Folegandros has the highest percentage of Greek endemics in the phytogeographical area of the Kiklades. The known distribution of the endemic Muscari cycladicum subsp. cycladicum is expanded, being reported for the first time outside the South Aegean Volcanic Arc. The floristic cross-correlation between Folegandros and other parts of the phytogeographical region of the Kiklades by means of Sørensen’s index revealed that its phytogeographical affinities are stronger to Anafi Island than to any other part of the Kiklades. I NTRODUCTION The Aegean Sea has long attracted the attention of biogeographers (Turrill, 1929 ; Strid, 1996 ), since it is characterised by high environmental and topographical hetero- geneity (Blondel et al. , 2010 ), diversity and endemism (Strid, 1996 ). The Aegean archipelago consists of more than 7000 islands and islets (Triantis & Mylonas, 2009 ), most of which are located in the phytogeographical region of the Kiklades. The fruits structures of Crepis from Turkey, which include five species (C. alpina, C. smyrnaea, C. pulchra, C. zacintha, C. sancta) and two subspecies (C. foetida subsp. foetida and C. foetida subsp. rhoeadifolia) were studied for fruit morphological and anatomical characters with one- way analysis of variance, cluster analysis and principal component analysis. Fruit size, shape, color, and the presence of beak were observed with stereomicroscopy. Whereas the surface patterns of fruit and pappus were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Furthermore, pericarp structure, thicknesses of testa and endosperm, and number of rib, cotyledon width in cypsela were studied anatomically. Results indicated that cypsela sizes, the presence or absence of beak on the cypsela, fruit and pappus surfaces, pericarp. Thickness of testa and endosperm, and number of ribs are of major importance to illustrate interspecific relations among the examined taxa. Also, this investigation is a preliminary study, which was performed to use fruit morphological and anatomical characters for their practicality on the classification of taxa within the genus. Revised: 12.07.2019. Accepted: 01.08.2019. Red Listing is a valuable tool for raising the awareness about those taxa which face the risk of extinction. It is the first step towards highlighting the problem of species decline and loss, as well as encouraging policy makers. In this study, a new or revised threatened status of five rare and two endemicCrepis taxa from Turkey������������� were present� ed, based upon IUCN red list categories and criteria. The following taxa are analysed: Crepis amanica, C. aurea subsp. olympica, C. bithynica, C. dioscoridis, C. foetida subsp. glandulosa, C. rubra, and C. syriaca. The area of occupancy (AOO) has been calculated for each taxon using the software GeoCAT (Geospatial Conservation Assessment Tool) �����������������and according to �2 × 2 � ����������������� km grid cell si������������������������������������������������e. A distribution map has been drawn with ArcGI����� ver� sion 10.3. Current IUCN red list categories and criteria were used to assess the conservation status of the taxa. New field observations and the population si�es were presented for each taxon. The taxa were placed into the group of critically endangered or endangered because of their small geographical distribution, narrow habitat specificity and non�abundant within the territory of Turkey. Based on the IUCN categorisation, our results show that all the taxa studied are directly and/or indirectly threatened by human activities, such as tourism, agriculture, gra�ing, pollution or urbanisation and competition with woody or invasive plants.

Abstract In contrast to the huge variety of sesquiterpene lactones reported, only a limited number of flavonoids and phenolic acids are known from the genus Crepis. Compounds detected in the course of this investigation encompass flavonoids luteolin, luteolin 7-O-glucoside, luteolin 7-O-gentiobioside, luteolin 7-O- glucuronide, and luteolin 4’-O-glucoside and caffeic acid derivatives chlorogenic acid, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, caffeoyltartaric acid, and cichoric acid. The spectrum of compounds found in the flowering heads of plants of the genus Crepis are useful chemosystematic markers both to differentiate between species and to characterize the genus and help delimiting it from morphologically similar genera within the Cichorieae tribe of the Asteraceae family. However there are no studies on its nutritional value, phenolic composition and biological activities. In the present work, a nutritional analysis of Cv leaves was performed and its phenolic content and biological properties evaluated. The nutritional profile was achieved by gas chromatography (GC). A 70% ethanolic extract was prepared and characterized by HLPC-PDA- ESI/MSn. The quantification of chicoric acid was determined by HPLC-PDA.

A contribution to the knowledge of the vascular flora of Symi and the nearby island of Seskli is pre- sented, being an update of the vascular flora of Symi and Seskli islands, 32 years after the first check- list published by Carlström. The occurrence of Limonium hirsuticalyx is reported on Symi for the first time; for Seskli, 41 new floristic records are provided, in addition to a species inquirenda: Limonium cfr. hirsuticalyx / meyeri. The strong floristic affinity between Symi and SW Anatolia, to which Symi was linked until the upper Pleistocene, is confirmed by the large number of range- restricted and rare taxa occurring on Symi and for the most part shared with the Muğla province in SW Anatolia. Despite its relatively recent insular isolation, Symi hosts a fair rate of endemics, including three single-island endemics: Allium symiacum, A. panormitisi and Origanum symes.     HAMPSHIRE FLORA GROUP ASTERACEAE WORKSHOP 27th September 2009 Introduction The Asteraceae (or Composite family) is the largest family of dicotyledonous flowering plants in the world, with estimates of species numbers from 22,000 – 28,000. They are also one of the most successful, with a great range of growth forms, from trees to succulents to tiny weeds and even aquatic plants, adapting them to most environments. They grow from the Arctic to the Equator, although particularly prominent in the subtropics and mountainous parts of the tropics. Some species’ adaptive success may be due to their ability to produce a battery of chemicals that make them unpleasant or toxic to creatures that try to eat them. The huge number of species taken into gardens and often developed into many cultivars attests to their attractive, often showy features. Yet the beautiful and elegant structure and arrangement of flowers, even in some of the dingiest weeds, makes them a pleasure to study. Many species, both ornamental and otherwise, come from Mediterranean or other warm-temperate climate zones. Consequently they are becoming increasingly naturalised in Britain and one needs to be able to track down exotic species that may not be immediately familiar (or may be deceptively similar to plants one already knows). On the other hand, many species used to come in as seed or wool-shoddy contaminants and are now very rarely seen, although some are still listed in the handbooks. We have tried to make the keys cover as many alien species are possible; this makes them rather more technical than they would have to be for a field guide to native plants only, but it should also mean fewer dead-ends or uncertainties when encountering unusual plants.
