May each of us learn from the Old Testament traveler, Jacob. May each of us also recognize and thank God for His promise to always travel with us and to care for our temporal needs. Likewise, let us make and keep this same promise that Jacob makes, to keep our faith and trust in God.

This reminded the services guests that to inherit eternal life in heaven is possible if by faith we believe the truth that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and arose victorious over sin, death, and hell. The desire to hear God’s Word draws many from near and far to the Laestadian Lutheran Church’s annual Summer Services. Many come to also enjoy the camaraderie among believing friends. This year’s services took place at the Wright County Fairgrounds in Howard Lake, Minn. The facilities included two main service tents, a food service building, a grilling and dining building, a sales building, a mothers and elders building, a control trailer, and many outdoor sitting and eating areas. About 120 RV and 50 tent spots were reserved for guests who wished to stay onsite. 2017 LLC SUMMER SERVICES The Sacraments—A Mystery of Faith THE MINISTERS AND BOARD MEMBERS MEETING was held on Saturday evening at the Cokato church. The sanctuary was nearly full with ministers, board members, elders, and other congregation members. The topic of the presentation and discussion was “The Sacraments” of Baptism and Holy Communion. Jim Frantti kept an opening prayer, Markus Lohi presented the topic, and Rick Nevala moderated the discussion. The presentation contained much information. Faith is required before baptism and communion. Faith comes by hearing the gospel. We live in repentance and walk in baptism. In Holy Communion, we are strengthened in faith and are reminded of our unity with Christ and His kingdom.

Among his various duties, Vähäjylkkä will serve in youth work, in counseling, and will also serve those unable to attend church services. Part of his time will be shared with the LLC. Plans Were Made Already in April 2015, plans were being made to pursue a new full-time pastor to replace Eric Jurmu, who moved to Minnesota in July 2015 to become LLC’s Executive Director. A pastoral search committee was formed with members from Phoenix and Prescott Valley. Congregation members were surveyed for their recommendations, and the LLC was con- tacted for input. In August 2015, Harri Vähäjylkkä, of Jyväskyla, Finland, expressed an interest in this pastoral position. During the fall timeframe, with prayerful hearts, the committee’s con- sensus was that the position would be offered to Harri. The local congregation boards agreed with this recommendation. We talked about how God is bringing His children together from all over the world, and what is the one thing we have in common? Through the Holy Spirit we know that only here is the Word of truth spoken. It is the simple gospel of the forgiveness of sins that is the power to salvation! When we hear God’s Word, believe it, and hold it dear to our hearts, we are safe and secure. Those who have not received the forgiveness of their sins and are searching for the truth, listen to God’s sweet message! Hear the message of the gospel preached from any child of God in Photo: AnnePhoto: Servin His kingdom, and simply believe! Jesus says to those who hear His voice and believe, “I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world” (Matt. 28:20). We Are Like Fish in God’s Net Jerry Johnson IT WAS A JOY to be at Summer Services, surrounded by believers, the Holy Spirit, and God’s Word. One message that stood out to me was from Harri Vähäjylkkä’s sermon, where he read Jesus’ words: “The kingdom of Elders Listen “at heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind” (Matt. 13:47). the Feet of Jesus” ,KDGFRPPHQWHGWRP\ZLIHDERXWWKHÁDJVGLVSOD\HGDWWKHVHUYLFHV THE ELDERS’ LOUNGE was a wonderful and how the number of them has grown. Kyra Wuollet We Listened Online in Alaska WAY UP HERE in Wasilla, Alaska, roughly 3,000 miles from the services site, we felt excited anticipation as we started to see pictures posted online. My husband and I are both from the Cokato congregation and considered going with our family to the services, but God had different plans for us. We are awaiting the arrival of our sixth child, due around this time. Many thoughts and prayers were with the Minnesota believers. We hoped for beautiful weather and missed our families who would be there. We eagerly looked at pictures of services, saw the big tent go up, the beautiful service gate, and the happy faces of dear friends

The atmosphere is festive, with many happy faces. I’ve noticed that people are happy to see other children of God and to be in the hearing of God’s Word. I’ve heard the same message at these services than I did as a young boy, even many of the songs we sang were written centuries ago and have the same message.” Photo: Rachel Janckila Rachel Photo: Phil Grangroth Steve Davison, here with his wife Jackie and great-niece, takes part in the festive services.
