Relationship Between the Geotourism Potential and Function in the Polish Part of the Roztocze Transboundary Biosphere Reserve
geosciences Article Relationship between the Geotourism Potential and Function in the Polish Part of the Roztocze Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Teresa Brzezi ´nska-Wójcik Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management, Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Al. Kra´snicka,2d, 20-031 Lublin, Poland; [email protected] Abstract: The Polish part of the Roztocze Transboundary Biosphere Reserve area is characterized by diversified geotourism resources with relatively high value. However, their potential seems not to be fully used in the current product offer. The aim of the study was therefore to assess the spatial variability of the geotourism potential and function and to determine their interrelations in view of further development of geotourism in the Roztocze TBR and the perspective of creation of the “Kamienny Las na Roztoczu” geopark. The study was carried out with the use of the taxonomic method of multidimensional comparative analysis consisting of calculation and analysis of general, total, and partial indices of the geotourism potential and function in 22 communes. The results showed the highest total indicator of geotourism potential in two communes, i.e., Józefów and Krasnobród, and the highest value of the total geotourism function index in Krasnobród. The results of the analysis of the relationships between the geotourism potential and function indicate that the geotourism resources and products are fully used in terms of the development of the function only in Krasnobród commune. In turn, the value of the total geotourism function index in the Zwierzyniec commune exceeds the geotourism potential indicator, which implies that this area is overloaded by tourist movement. The total indicators of geotourism potential in the other Citation: Brzezi´nska-Wójcik,T. -

Marriage, Inheritance, and Family Discord: French Elite and the Transformation of the Polish Szlachta
Blackburn: Marriage, Inheritance, and Family Discord 2 WORLD HISTORY REVIEW / Summer 2004 MARRIAGE, INHERITANCE, AND FAmily DISCORD: FRENCH ELITE AND THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE POLISH SZLACHTA by Christopher Blackburn [M. Damon to M. Wisdom] As to philosophy, you should know that our present age is one of enlightenment. Along with English frock coats, philosophy has come into vogue. In the boudoirs of the most fashionable ladies, right next to embroidery hoops and face powder you will find volumes of M. Rousseau, the philosophical works of Voltaire, and other writings of that sort. —Ignacy Krasicki (1776) Several important themes permeate Monsieur Damon’s instruc- tions to his aristocratic pupil. Most significant is not that Poland was a part of the general European Enlightenment, but that Polish enlight- ened thought resided primarily within “fashionable” elite circles and was ultimately based on the writings of the French philosophes. The wholesale acceptance of French culture brought a clear and conscious change to the szlachta’s traditionally Sarmatian character, while at the same time the szlachta family was unconsciously transformed by the more subtle Western notions of kinship and affective individual- ism, a process that culminated with the reign of the last enlightened despot—Napoleon Bonaparte.2 The mentalité of the Polish nobility was recast in the eighteenth century as its membership embraced selectively certain aspects of both the Enlightenment and ancien régime France. The piecemeal acceptance of these ideas by the traditionally Sarmatian nobility led to the evolution of an ideology resembling Enlightened Sarmatianism—one that embraced formal education, individualism, and Western appearance, which coexisted with agrarianism, anti-urbanism, and devotion to the Church.3 Once again the szlachta displayed its paradoxical nature by Produced by The Berkeley Electronic Press, 2003 1 World History Review, Vol. -

Important change processes that were unfolding in Poland at the time of the French Revolution provide an instructive case. -

Mariusz Nowak PUBLIC CONTROVERSIES OVER ZYGMUNT
STUDIA HUMANISTYCZNO-SPOŁECZNE (HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL STUDIES) 10 2015 Edited by Radosław Kubicki and Wojciech Saletra Mariusz Nowak The Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce PUBLIC CONTROVERSIES OVER ZYGMUNT WIELOPOLSKI’S VOLUNTARY SERVICE IN THE TSARIST ARMY (1849-1855) DURING THE CONGRESS KINGDOM OF POLAND The article raises the issue of military service of Count Zygmunt Wielopolski (1833-1902),1 the eldest son of Margrave Aleksander Wielopolski (1803-1877),2 the Entailer of Chroberz and supporter of the agreement between Polish elites and the Russian Tsar. At the beginning of the 1850s this issue triggered heated discussions among the elites of the Kingdom of Poland on the limits of cooperation between representatives of the Polish nobility, “the former political nation” of the pre- partitioned Republic and the Russian “invading government”, suppressor of the recent November Uprising. It should be underlined at the outset that the case of Count Zygmunt Wielopolski’s voluntary entering into the tsarist army was not altogether unprecendented in Polish society. However, his case triggered widespread public attention in the Kingdom owing to highly controversial political calculations of Count Zygmunt’s father, Margrave Aleksander. The latter hoped, in fact, that this gesture of his will win the partitioning tsarist authorities and bend them to negotiate on the restoration of the autonomy for the Congress Kingdom of Poland, which was disestablished as part of repressions for 1 Zygmunt Wielopolski (1803-1877), the Entailer of Chroberz, acting as the president of War- saw from 08/1862-09/1863; the director of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and Public Enlightenment in 1863; a counsel of the Central Committee of Land Credit Society in years 1876-1900; administrator of Łowicz Duchy; active in addressing and sending memori- als to the Tsar. -
Kronika Pałacowa Zamoyskich Z Adampola” Ks
RADZYŃSKI ROCZNIK HUMANISTYCZNY tom 15, 2017 ISSN 1643-4374 Piotr A. Czyż Uniwersytet Przyrodniczo-Humanistyczny w Siedlcach, Wydział Humanistyczny [email protected] „Kronika pałacowa Zamoyskich z Adampola” ks. Romana Soszyńskiego z 1970 roku ”Zamoyski family’s palace chronicle from Adampol” by Reverend Roman Soszyński dating back to 1970 ABSTRACT The Zamoyskis are one of the most distinguished noble families in Poland’ history. It traces its origin to the 12th century. Jan Zamoyski, the first entailer, founded the Entail in 1589 and it was then recognized by the Seym in the same year. The lands of Włodawa became part of the substantial estate belonging to the Zamoyski family at the end of the 18th century as a result of the marriage of Zofia Czartoryski to Stanisław Kostka Zamoyski. Since 1837, one can talk about the Włodawa line of the Zamoyski family. The seat of the latifundium was located in Różanka, north of Włodawa, where stood the 18th century palace that had belonged to the former landowners. Destroyed during World War I, it has never been rebuilt. The Zamoyski family, who wished to frequent and administer the property, erected a new seat in nearby Adampol, in the western part of the estate. The classical palace was built in 1923-1927 based on the Jan Koszyc-Witkiewicz’s design. Here in the new seat of the family, headed by its owner Count Konstanty, they could live peacefully until the outbreak of World War II.
