Newfoundland Antique and Classic Car Club (NACCC) April – June 2008 Iron Wood Shopping Mall, Richmond BC (Picture compliments of Walter and Shirley LaCour) President’s Message Another cruising season has started and Classic Wheels 2008 Car show is now history. Time surely flies when we are having fun getting prepared for the show. I would like to thank all the members who participated in the show whether it was helping to plan the car show, showing your car, volunteering with ticket sales or whatever. Without your help it would be impossible to do such an event. Congratulations to all the trophy winners. It is very difficult to choose from such beautiful classic automobiles. According to the list of activities and events in the calendar it seems we will have a very busy season. We suggest you refer to the calendar for events that will interest you. Of special note is a show and shine on July 1 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1 for our veterans. A large attendance will show our thanks to all the veterans from past and present for the sacrifice they made for us. There will be information in the newsletter pertaining to this. Our car club plans to visit the A&W on Cunard Crescent, in Donavans on a regular basis every second Thursday night. Owner, Scott Bartlett, promises to make our visits interesting and will give the club a percentage for A&W catalogue merchandise purchased. Volume 19 Issue 6 June 1, 2019 The 1958 - 1960 Lincolns, Interesting Automobiles A totally different Lincoln from the ones who came before it. Experiencing a shortage of articles from our members, we went back into the archives of Continental Comments for an interesting article; which you might enjoy. Lincoln models 1958 through 1960 were both interesting from a mechanical and stylistic standpoint. A lot of folks were not quite sure if the new look of these models was something that they would really like over a period of time. Compared to the 1956 and 1957 models, they really were quite different. Boxier and somewhat larger by most measurements. Now some 60 years later, they are sort of coming into their own. Nice examples will bring a lot of money today, especially if they are convertibles. We have several of these models owned by North Star club members, and they do speak quite highly of them. This article was written by Tim Howley and appeared in the July August 2002 issue of Conti- nental Comments. It is an interesting story, and it looks at these models in a fairly object fashion. Welcome to the We hope you enjoy reading it. Northstar News, the The late Fifties is a fascinating era in automobile styling. It produced the ultimate in ba- roque automobile architecture, especially in the biggest American cars. We think of the 1959 monthly publication of Cadillac and 1957-59 Imperial as being the most interesting examples. But when you set the Northstar Region them alongside the 1958 Lincoln, and to a degree the 1959 and 1960 versions, they don't even of the Lincoln and begin to compare in terms of uniqueness of design.

  • The Chevy II and Nova by Rick Feibusch
The Chevy II And Nova By Rick Feibusch Introduced amidst a throng of other compacts and often eclipsed by its Chevrolet siblings, the little Chevy II was one of t hose cars that always did its job well and is remembered fondly by the people who drove them. There are many unsung heroes of the daily road and highway wars. Most are "people's cars," functional transportation modules that got dad to work on time, the ki ds to school and mom to the market and back day after day. Many became lost in the cobwebbed corners of the mind because they weren't the big, flashy and sporty cars that we lusted after, but instead were the interim and practical ones that we were forced to drive until we could afford to "move up" to something a bit more impressive. Some, like the Model T Ford, VW beetle and Morris Minor, have been revered and honored over the years, but that had more to do with the fact that millions of each were prod uced over long periods of time with very little change and all were quirky enough to have a distinct “personality.” Millions of less prolific and unconventional marques have gone to the crusher with nary a tear. The Chevy II, introduced in late 1961, was one of the last compacts to be released after the great American compact rush of the late '50s and early '60s. The switch to compacts had been a reaction to a major financial crisis and automotive recession in the late '50s that induced many thrifty and pr actical Americans to purchase foreign made "baby cars".
