FEBRUARY 9, 2020 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: THOM SIMMONS PAIRINGS ANNOUNCED FOR 2019-20 CIF SOUTHERN SECTION-FORD GIRLS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS LOS ALAMITOS - A total of 295 entries, including top seeds Sierra Canyon, Harvard-Westlake, Harvard-Westlake, Orangewood Academy, San Clemente, Santa Monica, Wilson/Long Beach, Paloma Valley, Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks, San Jacinto Valley Academy and Ganesha vie for championships in nine single-elimina on divisional playoff s beginning with Wildcard contests on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Open Division Pool Play commences with opening games on Saturday, Feb. 15. The finals take part, in conjunction, with the swimming finals for each division.     COACHING STAFF ADAM WRIGHT HEAD COACH • 1st Year Alma Mater: UCLA ’01 Adam Wright begins his first season as UCLA’s head men’s water polo coach in 2009. A former standout in the pool at UCLA and on the U.S. Olympic Team, Wright was named the fourth head coach in program history on June 3, 2009. A four-year letterwinner at UCLA (1997-2000), Wright led the Bruins to back-to- back NCAA titles in 1999 and 2000. Following his collegiate career, Wright served as a key member on the U.S. National Team, participating in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics for Team USA. He helped lead the U.S. to a seventh-place finish at the 2004 Olympics (Athens) and to the silver medal at the 2008 Olympics (Beijing). Wright served as an assistant coach with the UCLA men’s and women’s water polo teams during the 2008-09 school year. He helped guide the women’s program to an unprecedented fifth consecutive NCAA championship in May 2009. Following the 2008 men’s water polo season, Wright played an integral role in securing the top men’s recruiting class in the nation. In addition, Wright served as an assistant coach with the varsity boys and girls water polo programs at Wilson High School (Long Beach, Calif.) from 2001-04. He helped coach the boys program to four consecutive CIF Division I championships and Moore League titles. Wright coached the girls team to two Moore League titles and two CIF Division I quarterfinal playoff appearances. As a senior at UCLA in 2000, Wright scored 39 goals before earning honorable mention All-America acclaim and second-team All-MPSF honors.

In girl’s tennis, 213 teams were assigned post-season contests in the seventh year of the competitive equity-based and divisional championship format, scheduled to open with wild-card round matches tomorrow. First round matches in all divisions are set for Wednesday culminating with the five divisional finals at The Claremont Club, Friday, Nov. 9. The CIF Southern Section Eight-man Football Playoffs also kickoff this week with 32 teams battling for two divisional titles (One and Two). First round contests are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2—unless competing teams mutually agree on a change. The CIF-Southern Section-Ford Eight-Man championships are to be held November 23 and 24 at host sites yet to be determined.
