MAY 6, 2013 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: THOM SIMMONS CIF SOUTHERN SECTION-FORD SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS, PRESENTED BY FARMERS HIGHLIGHT OPENING WEEK OF SPRING PLAYOFF COMPETITION LOS ALAMITOS — The member schools of the CIF Southern Section will open the final playoff period of the 2012-13 school year, as the CIF Southern Section-Ford Spring-Sport Playoffs and Championships, presented by Farmers get underway this week. The boys and girls swimming and diving prelims and finals will highlight the action. Pairings were announced yesterday in the sport of boy’s volleyball. Post-season track and field competition for boys and girls will also begin this week, with four divisional prelim meets on the schedule The CIF Southern Section-Ford Swimming and Diving Championships, presented by Farmers will be conducted at the Riverside Aquatics Complex on the campus of Riverside City College. Diving prelims began this morning (Boys and Girls Divisions 2 and 4) and continue through tomorrow (Divisions 1 and 3). The finals take part, in conjunction, with the swimming finals for each division. Swimming sessions will open with the Division 4 prelims Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Division 3 competition also begins on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Division 1 gets underway at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, while Division 2 prelim competition starts at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The championship times start with Division 3 on Thursday with swimming beginning at 5:00 p.m. Division 4 takes place on Friday with the first race at 5:00 p.m. Saturday championships begin with Division 2 at 10:00 a.m. and Division 1 at 5:00 p.m. Swimming and diving team points will be combined to determine divisional team champions. TRACK AND FIELD The 2013 CIF Southern Section-Ford Divisional Track and Field Prelims, presented by Farmers are also on the agenda for the week, featuring four meets that each will qualify nine finalists in all events for the CIF Southern Section-Ford Divisional Championship Meet, presented by Farmers. All meets begin on Saturday, May 11 – Field Events begin at 11 a.m. and running events at Noon; Div. 1 at Trabuco Hills HS; Div. 2 at Moorpark HS; Div. 3 at Estancia HS; and Div. 4 at Carpinteria HS). The track and field prelims will qualify nine finalists in each of 16 girls and 16 boy’s events for the CIF Southern Section-Ford Divisional Championship Meet, presented by Farmers, slated for Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday, May 18. - MORE- PR #27 2-2-2 BOYS VOLLEYBALL The 2013 CIF Southern Section-Ford Boy’s Volleyball Playoffs, presented by Farmers also open this week, with wildcard contests today and first-round matches in the five divisional single-elimination tournaments conducted at designated host sites on Tuesday. The tournaments will conclude with the CIF Southern Section-Ford Boy’s Volleyball Championships, presented by Farmers on Saturday, May 18 at Santiago Canyon College. BOY’S TENNIS Pairings for the CIF Southern Section-Ford Boys’ Team Tennis Championships, presented by Farmers were released today. Competition between the 199 entries will get underway with wildcard round matches in all divisions tomorrow. All preliminary-round matches will be conducted at designated host sites, beginning at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The single- elimination tournament will conclude Friday, May 17 at The Claremont Tennis Club. Please keep in mind that CIF Southern Section Championship events section-wide are CONTRACTUALLY titled CIF Southern Section-Ford Championships, presented by Farmers. The CIF Southern Section commends the media outlets within its geographical area that have supported high school athletics for many years. It is hoped these organizations will continue their outstanding contribution to the betterment of our state’s high school athletics programs by utilizing the correct titling for CIF Southern Section events at least once whenever possible – in previews, playoff-pairings lists, results, etc. Your continued support is appreciated. * * * BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS: The CIF Southern Section-Ford Baseball Championships, presented by Farmers in division’s 1, 2, and 3 will be held on Friday, May 31 at Dodger Stadium. Divisions 4, 5, 6 and 7 will be held on Saturday, June 1 at The Riverside Sports Complex on the campus of UC Riverside The Division I semifinal doubleheader will be at Blair Field on Tuesday May 28 with game times of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. A reminder that special credentials for all of these games as well as the divisional track finals at Mt. SAC and Masters Meet at Cerritos College will be required.
