Douwes Dekker (Danudirja Setiabudi) atau biasa dipanggil dengan istilah DD seakan kalah bersinar dengan tokoh-tokoh pergerakan yang lainnya. Generasi muda saat ini banyak yang tidak mengetahui peran besar DD dalam membakar api semangat nasionalisme pemuda pada era pergerakan nasional, bahkan Bung Karno menjuluki DD sebagai mentor nasionalismenya. Metode pelaksanaan yang akan dilakukan adalah dengan menganalisis situasi masyarakat yang akan menjadi khalayak sasaran untuk diberikan pemahaman dalam hal ini adalah mahasiswa yang tergabung di dalam Focus Group Discussion Guru Bangsa. Hasil dari pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa para generasi muda pada awalnya belum terlalu mengenal dengan DD, banyak generasi muda yang mengenal DD hanya sebatas anggota tiga serangkai dan tidak banyak tahu kalau DD memiliki peran besar dalam proses pergerakan nasional. Upaya pemberian pemahaman tentang perjalanan hidup DD ini memiliki dampak yang sangat positif bagi generasi muda khususnya mahasiswa, karena setelah pelaksanaan pengabdian ini para generasi muda khususnya mahasiswa lebih memahami tentang peran DD pada era pergerakan nasional Kata Kunci: Danudirja Setiabudi, Peran E.F.E. -

Gorga carving is a form of art carvings typical of indigenous Batak culture. This paper aims to determine the various forms of carving on custom home gorga Batak. Gorga carving shape manifold, so that on any form of carving gorga have different meanings. Therefore, this paper also aims to understand the meanings that exist in gorga carving. Within the meaning of carving gorga using semiotics approach. Semiotics is to approach the study of signs. In the traditional house of Batak carving gorga meaning of life, which it is drawn through the forms on each carving. Keywords: Carving, Gorga, Traditional House of Batak ABSTRAK Tulisan ini berjudul “Makna seni ukiran gorga pada rumah adat batak”. Ukiran gorga merupakan salah satu bentuk kesenian ukiran khas kebudayaan adat batak. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui berbagai bentuk dari ukiran gorga pada rumah adat batak. Bentuk ukiran gorga bermacam-macam, sehingga pada setiap bentuk ukiran gorga memiliki makna yang berbeda-beda. Oleh karena itu, tulisan ini juga bertujuan untuk memahami makna yang ada pada ukiran gorga. Dalam pemaknaan ukiran gorga menggunakan pendekatan semiotika. Semiotika ialah pendekatan ilmu yang mempelajari tentang tanda. Pada ukiran gorga rumah adat batak memiliki makna kehidupan, yang mana hal ini tergambar melalui bentuk-bentuk pada setiap ukiran. In the context of colonialism, Christianity has surely been perceived as a foreign religion that poses a menace to native nationalism. This essay presents a different picture, taking the case of colonial Java (the Netherlands East Indies) to illustrate the complex historical relationship between Catholicism and Indonesian nationalism. Perhaps it is rather ironic that it was chiefly through their connection with the Dutch Church and their mission enterprise that the Javanese Catholic intelligentsia were made deeply aware of their own dignity as a particular people and the limitations of European colonialism. In this case, Catholic Christianity as a world religion with supranational connection and identity has been able to help the birth of an intense nationalism that was prevented from being too narrow, chauvinistic, or simply “racialist,” precisely because it is connected with its larger ecumenism or network. More specifically, this ecumenism is also founded on the idea of “catholicity,” that is, universalism, that lies at the heart of Catholic Christianity. In the post-colonial Indonesia, however, this Catholic view needs to be translated into common platforms with the views and concerns of Indonesian Muslims, who face the same new challenges as they play their role in the formation of an authentic Indonesian nationalism. -

Tokoh yang diangkat oleh Hanung Bramantyo kali ini adalah biografi tentang perjuangan seorang pahlawan wanita paling populer di Indonesia, (Raden Ajeng) RA.Kartini. Pada awal abad 19, di kala Indonesia masih dijajah oleh Belanda, Pulau Jawa dipimpin oleh kaum ningrat di bawah pengawasan pemerintah Belanda. Hanya keturunan bangsawan (kaum ningrat) yang dapat menempuh pendidikan di bangku sekolah, namun wanita tidak diberi hak yang sama untuk memperoleh pendidikan tinggi layaknya kaum pria. Wanita Jawa kala itu hanya memiliki satu tujuan hidup, yakni menjadi istri seorang pria tanpa peduli menjadi istri keberapa. Akan tetapi, dalam film ini direpresentasikan bagaimana budaya patriarki sebagai suatu sistem sosial berdasarkan Budaya yang berlaku di tengah kaum feodal pada zaman Kolonial Belanda di tanah masyarakat Jawa mulai mengalami pergeseran yang disebabkan oleh mulai terjadinya perubahan dengan sosok Kartini sebagai pelopor. Deconstructing Bataknese Gorga Computationally Hokky Situngkir [[email protected]] Dept. Computational Sociology Bandung Fe Institute Abstract The carved and painted decorations in traditional Batak houses and buildings, gorga, are the source of their exoticism. There are no identical patterns of the ornaments within Batak houses and the drawings are closely related to the way ancient Batak capture the dynamicity of the growing “tree of life”, one of central things within their cosmology and mythology. The survey of ornaments of Batak houses and buildings in Northern Sumatera Indonesia has made us possible to observe the complex pattern. The fractal dimensions of the geometrical shapes in gorga are calculated and they are conjectured into 1.5-1.6, between the dimensional of a line and a plane. The way gorga is drawn is captured by using some modification to the turtle geometry of L-System model, a popular model to model the dynamics of growing plants. The result is a proposal to see Bataknese gorga as one of traditionalheritage that may enrich the studies to the generative art. Introduction The Indonesian Bataknese decorates their traditional houses and buildings with carved or painted ornaments known as “gorga”. The touch of the traditional knowledge with modernity has even yielded many modern buildings in Northern Sumatera, Indonesia, decorated with the traditional gorga, for example hotels, churches, governmental offices, community buildings, et cetera, expressing the identity of Batak people throughout the country. However, while the traditions have been slowly declined, we are still lack of studies due to the geometry of the ornamentation within gorga. -

Think of layers of civilization, one on top of the other. New Amsterdam Now imagine yourself with a shovel, standing on the surface. You begin digging into the layers of America’s story, searching for its beginnings. You dig through the 20th century, and reach the 19th, finding remnants of the era of horse–drawn buggies, of the Civil War, of the advent of steam–engines. You dig further, and come to the American Revolution: the powdered wigs, the muskets, the gentlemen in Philadelphia grandly inscribing their signatures to a document declaring their independence from Great Britain. This is it: the bedrock of American culture and history, the bottom layer. But no, of course that is not true. Beneath the Revolution lies the colonial period, with its cities burgeoning, its tobacco plantations worked by slaves, its residents thinking of themselves not so much as Americans but as Virginians or Pennsylvanians or New Yorkers. This, then, surely, is the bedrock, the root of all later American history. Actually, no. For the colonies of the 18th century have their roots in the 17th century. Many of these original European settlements — Virginia, the Massachusetts Bay Colony — were English. But not all of them were. This volume explores one of those earliest colonies, which was not founded by the English and which, though largely forgotten in the standard telling of American history, exerted an enormous influence on American culture. -

PERANAN PASUKAN POLISI PELAJAR PERTEMPURAN DAN GEREJA PUGERAN DALAM REVOLUSI INDONESIA TAHUN 1948 - 1949 DI YOGYAKARTA Drs. Djumarwan Danar Widiyanta, M.Hum Abstract Yogyakarta is one city that witnesses the struggle of the people in defending the independence of Indonesia. In the Second War of Independence, all levels of society involved such as the Pasukan Polisi Pelajar Pertempuran (P3). This troop is a Mobile Briagade (Mobbrig) under the leadership of IP II Djohan Soeparno. The headquartered of this force was in SPN Ambarukmo Yogyakarta. P3 troops also played a role in Serangan Umum 1 March 1949. They were divided into several locations including the Benteng Wetan, Kotagede, Pleret and Karangsemut. The attacks of P3 was quite tiring for the Netherlands. War of Independence II also involves the whole society. One of them was the role of Gerja Pugeran located in Pugeran Bantul. At the time of the war this church serves as a refuge, hospitals, and public kitchen. In this church there are also many soldiers who asked for protection during the day. Abstrak Yogyakarta merupakan salah satu satu kota yang menjadi saksi perjuangan para rakyat dalam mempertahankan kemerdekaan Indonesia. Dalam Perang Kemerdekaan II, seluruh lapisan masyarakat terlibat tidak terkecuali Pasukan Polisi Pelajar Pertempuran (P3). Pasukan ini merupakan pasukan Mobile Briagade (Mobbrig) di bawah pimpinan IP II Djohan Soeparno. Pasukan ini bermarkas di SPN Ambarukmo Yogyakarta. Pasukan P3 juga berperan dalam Serangan Umum 1 Maret 1949. Mereka dibagi dalam beberapa lokasi diantaranya yaitu Pojok Benteng Wetan, Kotagede, Pleret, dan Karangsemut.
